...or theorum or however it goes.

Anyways, I noticed a significant difference between the way I play and the way my friends play. Two of my friends played DDR first in the arcade, then downloaded Stepmania. I also first played at the arcade, then began using Flash Flash Revolution. Two days ago we got together at one of their houses to play DDR Extreme, and I noticed that my two friends (who learned on Stepmania) play by reading the arrows more than listening to the music. I play by listening to the music to help me keep in time. We all play on Heavy, don't use speed mods (unless I'm on Bag disturb.gif ) and use soft pads.

Does anyone else notice this "trend"?

.....or am I crazy and the pirate penguin is lying to me?

People who read the arrows and don't listen to the music won't get far on heavy mode.

It's not a "people who use stepmania do it like this" trend, it's completely up to the person.

I'm sure if it was sold for profit, Konami would clamp down on it (I'm sure it's a matter of time before they clamp down on ITG).[/quote]

I played at home first and recently downloaded stepmania. I look at the screen to see which arrows I have to step on, but I step on them when I hear it in the song. A good yet easy example is bumble bee on heavy.

Another thing I do with the music is tap my foot for every beet. That way if there's a big gap in between steps or a freeze, I stay with the beat.

If your friends play stepmania on a dance mat, the following post is a load of crap!

I disagree with your theorum E15.gif . I had been playing Stepmania for a while before playing at the arcade. Starting on heavy, (cause I was cocky E13.gif ) I passed 9 footers but only with a D grade. it's not because I played by sight, its because the distance between my finger and the keyboard is much less than my foot and the dance pad. I used the same delay which I used on stepmania and I ended up with more goods than greats and perfects. The next time, I went to step on the intended arrow a bit earlier than before and I ended up AA Paranoia Rebirth Heavy on my first attempt E4.gif . (Its probally would be an A with the extreme scoring system since the UK AA boundary is a lot more lax)

I've had an idea to determine if you are a sight or sound player. First play with no sound. And then on the same song play it with sound but with the hidden and dark modifier on. Do the test a few times if you wish and make an average score of each test. It should be pretty a obvious conclusion after that biggrin.gif. Tell me peeps if this test works!

If you play strictly by music or strictly by the arrows you'll never get anywhere.

You have to listen to the music to know where you are in the song. But most songs on DDR aren't timed as well as they should be. Alot of newbs don't notice it, but when you're starting to AAA stuff and MA on Oni's and Nonstops then you notice that it's more about reading. Thats why people use speed mods. Speed mods make it easier to read the arrows so the music doesn't throw them off.

Example of a well sync'd song (IMO the best sync'd song): Be Lovin'
Example of a bad sync'd song (We all know this one): A

I'm not saying you're wrong to play by listening to the music to play cause Pop'n Usagi is right, every persons prefrence is different.

You'll notice too that the home versions are sync'd ALOT easier than arcade

Konami created it (DDR), RoXoR perfected it (ITG), and we should all respect them equally.

Okay, well I tried JaneJana muted on Heavy...not good. A usual A turned to a D. I wasn't able to try Dark + Hidden. I'll try it tonight.
