I'm overweight, at 5' 8" I weigh almost 200 pounds, yet I play DDR every day, 8 and 9 foot heavy songs, working my way up to 10 footers (besides Sakura). Yet I've never seen this miraculous effect that everyone talks about DDR and losing weight. My weight's been the same before and after playing DDR. I don't over indulge in food either, so maybe this is just the way I'll always be.

Anyone else relatively good at this game and still overweight?

I play on standard, and I’m overweight. DDR doesn’t cause miraculous weight-loss, but it does burn calories. You won’t gain weight like you would sitting around and playing a normal video game. Konami just used the whole weight-loss thing as a sales pitch.

It works for some people, and not for others.

Just like any diet.

Quoted for emphasis.

But so I don't get warned, I'll add in a bit of my own input. First off, how long have you been playing at such a rigorous level, so to say. Also, does your diet consist of much sugar/fatty foods? It may just be that you haven't been playing long enough to lose weight rapidly or that you eat unhealthily.

Well...it's been working for me. I've somewhat lost weight and I've playing for about 9 months.

If you want to lose some weight...I guess you're going to havta change some of the things you're used to eating/drinking. I did and it worked. :/

Meh, i wish i weighed more beleive it or not. Playing at the arcade is alot easier when you can barely step on the arrows, takes alot less stamina.

I think it depends more on how often you play & how long you play, along with what your intake of food is. E1.gif

Personally, I cut back on my food intake just a bit. But my soda/sugar drinks I cut back almost 95%, which really helped. Turned to real juice drinks and water which is better for you.

You won't lose too much in the upper body dept, but your legs will lose much and get stronger. Your stamina will go up and the whole process does wonders for your cardiovascular system. happy.gif

If you're going to lose weight playing DDR, you have to play for a long time. You can't go in for a sprint and expect to leave five pounds lighter. It's how long you can keep sweating. But you might be doing this anyway. In that case, it's entirely possible that you're losing fat, but gaining muscle (which weighs more than fat anyway).

One critical thing: diet.

That's the one thing I'm missing and why I'm not losing weight playing DDR/ITG. And I'm basically the same size as you...5'8", 200-215 lbs.

This reminds me how I need to drink WATER playing DDR/ITG and not Mountain Dew Code Red -____-.

Thanks for reminding me (I'm being serious). thumb.gif

Like 95% of the kids here are overweight. I weigh like 115 pounds and im 5'10. Maybe you guys should go run a mile a day or something. And you guys should think "Should I order 5 cheesburgers?, or should I just get a salad?" every day when you go to McDonalds.

You're not going to lose any weight unless you burn more calories than you take in. Lets say your resting metabolic rate take care of 2000 calories a day, and you burn an extra 300 a day playing ddr. If you eat 1800 calories a day you'd burn about 1 pound of fat a week (1 pound of fat = 3500 calories).

So, check your diet. Eat several small meals throughout the day.

Your BMI is in an unhealthy category, which is ironic since you are telling others about fitness.

I'm 5'4" and I've lost some weight playing DDR. But I've got a friend who's lost much more than i have. She weighs more and sweats more so it makes sense. If you want to lose weight, drink water not sida when playing or otherwise.

An attempt to be humorous.

But the lack of punctuation & grammatical errors diminished it. :/
