BuMPing: Whats wrong with it?

<sarcasm> Obviously the system of having 987644456 posts about the same topic and 4587389 identical responses works much better </sarcasm>

If you bump a topic just because nobody responded to it the first time, you're just wasting bandwidth. Nobody cared about your topic the first time. Nobody will care the second.

i agree with those types of bumps

what im talking about is replying to older threads

eg.
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=99678

nothing person against sherlock, as most mods are lock happy...

so let me elaborate a little..

thread is 1 month old
event x which relates directly to the thread occurs
a post about this event is posted
-- thread is locked for "bumping"--

result
--> a new thread is made every month
--> much of the content posted in each new thread was posted in the last thread

I agree with Bubi to some extent, but usually if the bumping post is relevant and useful, the thread won't get locked. It's when someone posts something like "lol" to a year-burried theard that they go locking.

John Bono is correct, and I agree with you, Bubi. That should not have been locked because it added new information. It wasn't a bump just to bump.
