Hey everyone, i'm new to the forums, but i'm definitely not new to ddr. i've been playing for about two years (although i've only really picked up in the last four months or so). at first i didn't want to play, out of sheer embarrassment, but eventually i really grew to love the game (the ps2 versions), and eventually became a member of my high school's ddr club *yeah, they had a ddr club with a yearbook picture and all*, and then i joined my university's ddr club. mostly for exercise (i've lost about 18 pounds so far), and for fun.

but recently, i've been having problems with DDRMAX 2. whenever i play in workout mode, i've noticed the amount of calories i burn have drastically dropped. for instance, when i play breakdown on heavy, i USED to get a calorie read out of at least 60. now whenever i play it, i'll be lucky if i break 20. i do the exact same moves, it's as if the dance pad/game only registers a fraction of a calorie. also, i've noticed that whenever i make any extra steps, the game doesn't read it, and the calorie count stays the same, only registering the required dance moves (hope that makes sense). this isn't the first time it's happened, as i experienced the same problem about 6 months ago. i bought new dance pads, figuring that would solve it, but it didn't. eventually, i started burning more calories again, but the problem has flared back up, and i'm back to burning only 10-23 calories as opposed to 30 minimum. sorry if this confused anyone, but i just want to know if there's a way to fix this.

This isn't going to solve your problem, but the accuracy of the calorie counter is pretty dubious to begin with. I wouldn't concern myself with what the game was telling me, and instead I'd pay attention to what my body was telling me. Regardless of what the calorie counter is saying, you can tell how hard you're working.

I believe the number of caleries the game says you burn depends on how much you tell it you weigh. I havn't ever done workout on Max2, but I think that's how it worked on DDR USA.

Yes. After you do that, go into the Options menu and set the calorie count to 'Free' instead of the default 'Regulation', which only counts required steps. 'Free' counts all of them.

Also, how long have you been using Workout Mode on one file name? I bet that the game assumes you're losing wieght as the months go by and such, which may affect how many calories you supposedly burn while playing. I dunno, I'm just theorizing, but if you've been using it for a while, it may be something like that. Try starting a new Workout Mode file and see if it goes back to 60 or not.

Your steps are probably more accurate now, and your probably not tripping over arrows... But then again, i havent seen you play. This probably doesnt answer your question, but it might be a reason... erm.gif

dont even listen to the calorie meter, the best thing that you could do is use a scale and weigh yourself before and after u play on normal mode.

Calories != weight.

Besides, it's only healthy to lose <5 pounds a week, anyway. And 3-5 is stretching it.

Still, Workout mode has great intentions, and if you're using it for exercise, by all means, keep going. The steps are kind of easy to fudge (since they're easier settings of harder Heavy songs) but gives you incentive to play an Endless-type mode (without playing the real Endless mode and crossing your fingers that [insert 10 footer here] doesn't show up as your 53rd song on Heavy).
