Hey Guys,
I started playing a month and 1/2 ago and although I haven't weighed in at all I must have lost 25-30 pounds. My belly has shrunk by at least 2 inches. My wife tells me that I really lost weight in my face too.
DDR is great for losing weight and gaining stamina. It's really gonna help for when I play softball this summer. _________________

Hey there fellow fogies;)
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I had school on top of work for the last 5-6 weeks, so I wasn't able to get in much DDR during that time.
But, I finally got to the arcade last week for a an hour or so... I didn't seem to lose that much as I got right back into A & AA'ing 7 & 8 footers. Tried a few new songs (to me) with relatively decent success.
The most interesting event of the night was a very near-miss of a long-time goal of mine. I've always wanted to achieve a 1000-combo playing non-stop mode. Well, the machine I play on had a sweet looking Player's Best 1-4: Cartoon Heroes (7), Butterfly (4), Captain Jack (7), Rythm & Police (6)... the only one of those I don't play a lot is Butterfly cuz it's so boring. So, I gave it a shot. I got a Good somewhere in Cartoon Heroes, but then proceded to finish it off and get through Butterfly & Captain Jack with nothing lower than a great. I felt good going into R & P with almost an 800 combo, cuz to me, it's a lot easier than Capt Jack. I busted throught the first 100+ steps with no problem, but once that combo got over 900, I started to ge ta bit nervous. Then, I choked at and got a Good soon there after:(! Ended up with a max combo of 912 but I was royally pissed off! I've full combo's R & P many times and usually get a AA or very high A, yet I couldn't pull it off to get my 1000 combo:( Oh well, I'm gonna try to go back again before that 1-4 changes... maybe I can pull it off... I just gotta hear that "1000 COMBO" before I die;) _________________

I'm trying to work this out... those are the Standard level foot ratings... but on Standard, I don't think those songs have enough steps to give you a 1000 combo, especially with Butterfly in there. Some of them must've been on Heavy, right? |

Yeah, that story's fishy. Most standard songs have a full combo of 250 or less, and you can't mix and match difficulties on nonstop.
I just checked the stepcharts... a full combo of all four of those songs on standard would be 985. So either somebody is a liar, or has a bad memory. |

Whoa, whoa, whoa... I wasn't calling him a liar... I just wanted to know which of those songs were on Heavy. |

Well, you guys ALMOST had me questioning my sanity there for a minute... even though I know damn well that Capt Jack & Cartoon Heroes have well over 300 steps each and that R & P is really close to 300. When I full combo a song (like I've done with those 3) I rarely get confused on what that combo reads at the end.
So, here's the explanation... you guys are looking at the full combo numbers on the step charts on this site, right? Well, I don't know why, but those numbers do NOT correspond to the actual full combos you can achieve by playing the game. The reason? It looks to me like the charts only count each jump as 1 step, while we all know that they really count for two on the actual machine.
So, here's the REAL breAkdown for you all: real / chart
Cartoon Heroes - 330 / 268
Butterfly - 202 / 160
Capt Jack - 329 / 299
R & P - 291 / 258
Totals = 1,152 / 985
So Den, please be a little more knowledgeable BEFORE U go accusing people of being liars or having altzheimers. My memory ain't what it used to be, but I was damn sure that I had over 1100 possible steps between those four songs... _________________

Kahuna, Congrats DDR is great way to get fit and stay fit
Roxfan, great accomplishment You should post in other thread (accomplishment thread for old fogies). I donât think Iâll be attempting any non-stop anytime soon. Still trying to pass as many songs as I can in arcade I never tried Cartoon heroes and Captain Jack in any mode. Is it fun in Standard? May be I'll try this weekend |

Didja ever have one of those weeks? When the worker guys tear a hole in your wall, then your icemaker stops working, your kid's sleepover turns into a melee, and you find yourself off the pad for days?
I'm in a rut. Even with my new setup, I still have only played maybe two hours in the last week. Well, 2 and 1/6 given the two games I played at the arcade Saturday before 20 teenagers came in.
We need old people's regional DDR and support group meetings. Not like DDRA, cause this is not the kind of addiction we need to kick, but sort of like a stitch and 8itch thing. What the heck could we call it? Something like:
Mad or Sad? Hit the Pad!
Actually, that sounds kind of pathetic.
As always, though, it's inspiring to be near you people, even virtually. _________________

It's been a bit since I posted, so I thought I would say Hi.
Had a cold last week, so I am now back to playing. But due to my (fill in the explitive) pad, I mostly sticking to beginner stuff. (Still waiting for my CF pad.) I am trying the Endless mode on Extreme which has been fun except when it throws in one of the 4 really hard songs. |

No problem man... personally, it never occurred to me to lie or exagerate about my DDR accomplishments. I mean, what would be the point? Bottom line is that no matter what I do, there will always be better players that have accomplished WAY more than I do on DDR. To me, the 1000 combo is a personal goal, along with other things like passing more 9-footers, etc. BUt these goals are nothing and don't even warrant a second thought from most of the advanced players on this site, so I'd really have nothing to gain by lying about them, right?
Anyway, I'm supposed to be working this morning, but I think I may have to bust out UM2 on my "break" _________________

Iâm 47, male, been playing for almost a year. PS2, all three games. Lost 40 pounds in three months with DDR, and have kept the weight off by playing 3 to 4 hours a week since then. And itâs a lot more fun than walking, jogging or going to a gym.
I get A/Bâs in most songs, Standard Mode. Been working up to Heavy the last couple months. Can do better than an E in about 10% of the songs (but probably wonât ever be able to do much better than that, my eyes see the prompt, my brain tells my feet to move, but sometimes those feet just want to stay right where they are).
A few times, Iâve played for over 3 hours straight and Iâve been known to jump on at 2 AM, then shower and go to bed. Often, my woman (40) and I will play together. I can usually beat her, but sometimes she wins as well.
I can consistently beat all the neighborhood teens, except my son, who I can only beat about 10% of the time. Though heâll get tired after 40 minutes or so, and Iâll keep playing.
Younger folks, if you have overweight or out-of-shape parents, consider turning them onto the game. I havenât felt, or looked, this good in 20 years! |
