Listen. Download the latest version of SMOnline from the official forums located at http://forums.system-online.net/ , and when it's installed, run the shortcut on your desktop that starts with "SMOnline", not "StepMania" (so it will autoconnect you to the server). Then you should be set.
Also, make sure to bring your songs over to your new install, and remember to make a forum account or else you cant play. |

I'm probably just being a moron, but never having played the Disney version I have no idea how to actually send the attacks in Magic Dance.
Could somebody tell me what step or combination sends it? |

It's automatic. There should be a little attack bar that builds up as you dance. As soon as it gets completely filled, you should hear a little sound effect and it should automatically hit your opponent with a random modifier, depending on your character and level. _________________

So, as I was saying elsewhere (oops... ), I'm having a bit of a "random skip" problem. During gameplay, my computer likes to make Stepmania "skip" a little completely at random sometimes. I had that problem with alpha 24, but it wasn't a real big issue then. It might skip by a split second and cause me to get a Good instead of a Perfect or throw me off for a few beats or something. No biggie. But, the other night, I upgraded to rc2, and I swear it has to be skipping at least one beat ahead when it does that now, making me get Misses instead of Goods. The response when it's not skipping seems to have gone downhill a bit as well, making me Miss/Good on arrows that I've hit once in awhile. Is there some way I can fix this? I've got 191 mb of ram installed at the moment, if that's of note. _________________

I know it's probably not necessary to "bump" a sticky thread, but I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me with the above-mentioned random skipping issue. Heck, someone even at least replying to this thread would be nice, too. Anyway, I've already consulted the FAQ at Stepmania's official site, and it seems to have only reduced the number of times it skips rather than completely eliminating the problem. Anybody? It's really starting to annoy me. _________________

Okay is there anyway to decrease the number of times the announcer says something during game play? It seems like he's always saying something; way too much announcing. _________________

I had the same problem (apparently a lot of others did too). It seems to have stopped now but all I can do is relate the steps I went through.
When I first played r22 (I think it was; I'm not at home right now), it did not skip. And yes I'm talking big jumps, not the tiny speed changes. After a couple of weeks, I started to notice it and it just got worse and worse until I couldn't stand it anymore. I was forced to take action.
1. I installed the latest driver for my sound card. It seemed to help but within a few days, the skip was back.
2. I broke down and upgraded to the latest release; SM 3.9 r2. Again it was better but the skip was still there and *really* bothersome.
3. I discovered that if I re-booted before I played SM, it would run fine for as long as I wanted. But when I started the program a second time, the skip would come back. (This was the only reason I needed to re-boot; everything else was fine. Got old fast too.)
4. I deleted a bunch of sim files. (Didn't really like 'em anyway.) Now I hardly ever reboot and I haven't had it skip for a weeks. (knocks on fake wood.).
Good luck with your mission.

Im not sure, but I think there is something called a Summary screen. It shows your score and how good your accuracy was on the arrows. This is just a hunch though. |

recently everytime i try to use stepmania 3.9rc2a and it ends up restarting my computer. i'm wondering if this is a software problem or a stepmania problem. any advice on how to fix this problem would be greatly welcomed either pm or by this forum. thanks in advance. _________________

I made a thread about the announcers for SM, but no one answered my question:
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=101099
Someone told me to go here for questions like this. So how can I turn off the announcer only while I am actually playing? I want to keep him on for when he says things like "Dance Dance Revolution" and "First Stage." Is there a line in the programming I can change so that there is no trigger for sounds while I am playing? Or do I have to rename the folders that have the sounds I don't want so that SM can't find them? |

Your question WAS answered.
Go to Options->Appearance Options->Announcer. Switch it to OFF.
Taken from that thread. |
