The Xbox Live means downloads I assume? Or is it online play?

I think it's downloads only, not OL play.

Well, this is going to be a pretty costly season. I'll have to buy the XB and the PS2 versions, not to mention the $100+ the Korean version already cost me..

..ah well, c'est la vie. I've sacrificed more for less before.. and this looks absolutely incredible.

Only worry is how good the CZ steps on these US additions'll be.. hopefully they've learned their lessons from the Premiere USA songs of old(no CZ steps).

Thinking about Let's Groove NM.. goosebumps.

Watching the Video again, the description for Xbox Live is the following:

"Join the Xbox Live! Download service, Online Ranking, and More"

Seems to be just downloading and uploading high scores in Arcade mode, but there could be playing because it says "and more."

And I forgot to mention, there's also Tutorial and Practice Mode now. And for the gameplay video, I'm not sure but looks like the flare from when you hit the arrow is back, not completely sure though...

OMG, I was looking at the screenshots and found something VERY interesting:

http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/713/713628/img_2601160.html

Check it out, right beside Get Up! ITS CANON-D!

Wow, US version may be much better than the import version after all!

This game officially rocks, and I want this now. It's supposed to come out this summer, right?

All they need now is move your head, ferry boat, holiday, black cat, and bonnacia and that shit would be hella tight.

So far this game looks like to be another exceed 2.

Will they have the remix mode as well?

There's no metal pad for PIU yet, but you can modify the control box on the Cobalt Flux to use it for Xbox or Pump it Up.

heck yeah they brought back the cool flash/starburst effect when the arrows register E1.gif like in premiere 2 and exceed 2

heres hoping that sometime soon there will be official or 3rd party metal PIU pads without the need to mod a DDR one E10.gif

Heh. Don't kid yourself. PIU may look sleek, but as far as the interface goes, it has *never* been "polished". The codes aren't ever consistent between versions, and there's no reason for them not to be.

Here's a question - will you actually be able to play doubles in this version? E15.gif I asked around back when an Exceed hit my area, and nobody could figure out why Freestyle didn't work.

I'm still not seeing what's the difference between the Xbox and PS2 versions. So far I'm only inclined towards the Xbox because of songpacks. What's up with the PS2 version?

How does it not work? Unless you put in two credits, otherwise doubles is only playable off of one credit. I know for Exceed 2, two credits and hitting start on both sides turns the Freestyle and Nightmare difficulties into 2-player modes.

I think the codes have stayed consistant after a certain version, but it's no different than DDR; 1st Mix had different codes, 2nd-3rd (4th?) Mix had different codes, 5th-Extreme had different codes, Solos had different codes. For Pump, the only speed up codes I've known are UL-UL-UL for earlier versions and UL-UR-UL-UR-Center for later versions.

I think the interface for Exceed is A TON better than earlier versions. At least Pump actually changes up their song selection interface more drastically than other music games (except between Exceed and Exceed 2). The only thing that hardly changes is the actual gameplay screen (which, well, how can you really improve it?).

Canon-D just made this game go on my must-buy list. The steps aren't spectacular, but the background movie is awesome.

On the Exceed I've played on:

1. Putting in two credits removes Freestyle completely from the menu. Everything's versus. I can't find anything with Freestyle. If I don't hit Start on the other side, then it plays as if I had just inserted one set of credits.

2. Putting in one set of credits, I find and pick a song on Freestyle. And wow. It's the same steps on *both* sides of the pad. Yeah, that's fun.

Other related issues - The need to select a song in order to see difficulty levels and the fact that the distribution of step levels is wildly inconsistent (IE - not all difficulties available on all songs). I can't just find a song that sounds good and pick an appropriate step level. I have to hunt around for stuff that I'm capable of playing.

Don't mistake this for a pro-DDR/anti-PIU post. There are several aspects of PIU that I like a lot, but there's other stuff that really gets in the way of my enjoyment.

I just went to look at this. The codes started becoming more consistent at 4th Mix. Left and Right were different, but the rest became standard for later versions. And of course, with Max+, the point becomes moot, since 90% of the time people use the menu (which was a better idea than the foot codes anyway).

Solo just has a menu entry code - None of the rest of the codes work, I believe. I don't know though - the only Solo I've seen was 4th Mix.

In the case of 1st Mix/2nd Mix, it looks like what Konami did was to just eliminate the need for most of the codes by moving most of that stuff (IE - difficulty selection) to an on-screen menu. The Mirror code is the same, and it's the same as 3rd Mix as well, so I wouldn't really say the codes were different in those versions - some just became obsolete, and new codes were added in later.

But anyway, I really don't want to hijack this topic, so if you can tell me what I'm doing wrong with regards to Freestyle, and why it doesn't work for me, that'd be a big help.

The places I play pump at, I usually just drop in one credit and pick freestyle, done. Some songs do acutally repeat themselves stepwise, but an easy way to check is something like Another Truth.

The first steps are 1pcenter/upright 1pcenter/upleft. The entire song is you jumping across the pads.

As for the home version, the ONLY songs missing that I'd like are Final Audition Episode 1 and T.T.Ma's Loner.

But we got Don't Bother me and Slam along with the good Banya stuff, consider me sold on at least ONE of the versions.

I think your Exceed is bugged then, because it's only one credit to play double (which you know), but it SHOULDN'T default to versus. I'm guessing you've also tried selecting Freestyle to other songs (like I dunno, Funky Tonight?)?

Keep in mind on Exceed 1, A LOT of the songs are mis-labeled. I mean, Kiss Me is an 8 on Crazy? Bullcrap.

Solo 4th works like every other, but the Solo Bass Mix codes I know for a fact, those codes are different than the 1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th Mix codes.

Only on the home version, you get the "shortcut" menu. The arcade version still requires a foot-panel code input. I could never remember the Maniac code for the longest time because I was always playing on Trick.

Some codes remained the same from 1st-2nd/3rd Mix, some changed (I think mirror stayed the same, but the maniac codes changed, for example).

As someone who's never played PIU, but would like to try it: can someone summarize the differences in the Korean/USA PS2 songlists? In general terms -- I've never heard any of these songs, and thus am not trying to buy the one that has the most of my arcade favorites or something. I'm just wondering about things like: is one songlist heavier on the rap or dance pop or anything else like that? Are the difficulty levels radically different? Etc.

I'd been planning to import, but with news of the USA release, I might buy that instead, since I expect it'll be a lot cheaper, especially since I'd like 2 pads, as I play mostly doubles DDR at home.

Well, I haven't tried it on many other songs, no. It's hard enough to find something with Freestyle steps. Then I have to find something with a low enough difficulty that it'd be doable for a PIU novice. So far I've only tried this twice and had the same problem (don't remember what songs).

I didn't know what to think, so I asked Miklotov, since I knew then that he was a PIU veteran, and he told me he couldn't figure out the deal with Freestyle on Exceed either, so it's not just me.

So, you're saying some of the songs have real doubles steps? That's really weird - why would Andamiro go through the trouble of enabling/disabling a bunch of songs on Freestyle and then have half of the active ones not even worth playing because they're just singles steps x2?
