I have not been playing DDR for very long, I'd say about 6 months. I am on the verge of light mode to the point where I can play a few standard songs. I am in no way an expert.
The DDR machine at my usual arcade is currently broken, and I couldn't wait any longer for it to be fixed. I ventured to an arcade called Celebration Station ( I usually avoid going here due to the mass amounts of small children and crowded atmosphere).
Everything was going okay, they stood in line instead of putting coins on the bottom screen, which was different, but okay. Everyone was pretty nice before we ( me and my friend) played a few songs. I was still feeling the symptoms of a cold that I had had the past week, so of course I was not doing my best at all.
A group of guys decided to rip on my playing while standing directly behind the bar, and very loudly I might add. It was very distracting, and outrageously rude. They obviously assumed that they had the right to rip on me cause they played heavy mode. (and I am in no way refering to the playful teasing. This was just mean.)
I have so far had a wonderful experience with other DDR players, but this has ruined that innocence...Unfortunately...Have you guys met with this sort of experiance? ( if so I am sorry) |
yea, one time when i went to the arcade with my friend (we were on 'intermediate' standard at the time), we met this girl who was fair at ddr on heavy, she is about like i am now. She claimed to have played in some tourneys and was telling us about it. Then my friend and I told her about a tournament that was coming up really soon and we told her we wanted to compete on standard on it (the tourney was about 4 months from when this happened, and we would have had plenty of time to get good enough). She then had the nerve to tell me and my friend that we werent NEAR good enough, at the time, we didnt want to do it for comp. Just for fun, we left the arcade with a bad vibe from her, and (thankfully) we never saw her since.
Besides, she wasnt very good for 'Playing for 4 years'. She was only on heavy and couldnt pass on the songs very well. She could have at least been a little supportive instead of completely trying to discourage us from doing it. _________________

i don't reele hate anything much when people play... other than ppl who play on standard or heavy and still put their feet in the middle of the pad.. that's just annoying for me.... i guess that's just me, then. _________________

There are really only three things that annoy me when I'm playing DDR:
1.) Someone using my coin after I put it on the screen to signify my turn or disregarding the coin line alltogether
2.) Someone jumping up on the 1P side and either just standing there or running across the pad.
3.) Someone who keeps trying to talk to me when I'm in the middle of a song. I'll be happy to answer your questions and talk to you, but PLEASE wait until I'm done with my song. _________________

What I hate are little kids that keep on pressing on around on the pads then get in your way then you eventually have to fail because you dont wanna hurt em. Also when teenage bastards annoy the $h1t outta you saying how do you do that, imitating you and you cant get your concentration right then you tell tham to f@ck off and then they don't and then you tell management... Or is that just me? _________________

They just moved around the games at the arcade about a week ago and the DDR Extreme is against one wall and then some drumming game is within about 7 feet behind it. Some guy came over there when someone was playing DDR. I think they were playing oni but I know nothing about oni so i have no clue. The drum game started up and was absoloutely blasting. It was bad. I thought the guy on DDR would kill the guy on the drum game. The guy on the drum game is sitting there with his girlfriend watching him and I take a look. The moron was playing the wrong cymbal on it so he failed within 45 seconds into his first song. I laughed so hard. It was great. _________________

1. The people that come to me for advice but provide no real information.
2. The people who think they look modest by downplaying all of their scores regardless of how good they are on the large scale. Stuff like "Man I did awful!" isn't modest. It's plain annoying.
3. The people who can only talk about DDR and nothing else. |

Why blame the guy playing the game? Blame the people who run the arcade who put the machines that close together and set the volume levels that way.
After watching some videos the other day, I came up with something I really don't like: players who throw an expletive-laded fit when they don't AAA something. You know who you are... and you seriously look like a-holes. |

I'm not a AAA-master yet, but I know what you mean. Sure, I throw the random expletive here and there whenever I fail a song for the eleventy-billionth time, but if it's just getting a B on a song that I know should have been an A, I just mutter a few choice words and shake my head.
Still, though, I can imagine the frustration of black-flagging a song. Just a small fraction of a second was all it took to lose that AAA score... damn, that must suck. |

But the thing is, if you play a really hard/fast song, then you might need to catch your breath before you do the next song. Its not that they cant do it, its just that they need to wait a few seconds before they do. _________________

i can't really think of anything that really bothers me about people playing ddr. and as to the thing about waiting the full 90 seconds to pick a song, it's alright to do it once or twice, but not every time. i know i 've waited to the full timer but that was because i did sakura heavy and then max 300 heavy one after another. anybody would be tired after doing that, so sometimes it's just a good idea to wait. although i don't like bar rapers on easy songs. i think the bar shjoud only be used for freestyling and any song above 9 feet (cuz i only use it on maxes and sakura). thius post is probably slightly off-topic, but that's a problem of mine. _________________

The timer is there for a reason. If catching your breath was unacceptable, they wouldn't give you time between songs. |

Yeah, I think you should've just left it at that...
This got me annoyed: the other day there was a problem with the machines, so the arcade op had to reset them... to make up for the inconvenience, she then loaded up the machine with 6 or 8 credits... and the people who were up first didn't get off until they were all used up! |

OWNED
they load up all the machines w/ like 10 credits on saturday mornings at one of my places, so there's usually like 3 guys waiting outside the arcade at 9:30 before they even open |
