I just started one, we've only had 4 meetings, but we had more than 15 people attend. We're growing enough that we're going to have a Light-Standard night and a Standard-Heavy night. All of this using a school TV and sound system. We're planning to fundraise to buy good pads. Isn't that sweet? I'm just proud and wanted to share, and to say to anyone in those parts where DDR players seem scarce: all you have to do is look. I passed the word around for a week, and a whole bunch of Heavy players just popped out of the woodwork. And DDR is definitely more fun with a lot of people.

i remember someone at my friends school started one. It wuz coo cuz he organized days where he would go to an arcade and try to convince the manager to put it on free play and we would stay and play like hella times.

We even had a holloween(that's how he spelt it) dance.

too bad it didn't last long cuz of the way he lost the money and that no one cared.

That's an effing cool idea! My school runs a coffee house on Thursdays and Fridays from 4-7 after school. My girlfriend and I brought up the idea of having a DDR night there. No real progress in it yet. Hopefully we can get a TV or 2 in there and play on Xbox and PS2.

We have a DDR club at our school too. The first week we had about 60 people in the room, although about 50 were just watching. Now the club has dwindled down to about 10 or 11 "hardcore" club members. We also have 3 TVs (1 w/ USEx, 1 w/ MAX2, and one w/ MAX). We are planning to get a JPS2 or find someone who can install a mod chip.

I've been contemplating starting one at my college, and then I realized we had one. It's called the Anime club. We even have a DDR tournament fundraiser every semester. Just about everyone who I know plays DDR here went to it, and we ended up with decent competition.

I got DDR for my school, and we play it at recess and gym. It's pretty cool, since we got a slim PS2, Extreme, 2 metal pads and a hundred DDR lovers. I'm trying to start a club, but we need "teacher guidance". BS.

As you can see in my sig, my school indeed does have a DDR Club. My gym teacher knew I played beforehand, and she knew I couldn't wait till Gym to get to play it. So we asked her and she supervises. We bring in metal pads, Ps2, all the U.S. mixes, and some JP mixes. We get alot of people to go, but only some of us play.

The club that I started is a little...vacant... The sad thing is that I started it a month ago, and since then I haven't been able to complete a sentence without saying "Join DDR club!" to everybody I saw. I even bought a brand new METAL DDR pad! At the beginning, there were like 15 people (WOOT!). Last Friday, there was only me and my wierd friend Balfazar. Yay? I need to find a better way to advertize...

Cool! I'm thinking about holding a DWI tournament at the first school dance next year. By then I would have a laptop and a good soundsystem. I'll borrow my computer graphics teacher's projector and the entry fees can be used to fund the school! (I'll have to email simwolf first.)

My "DDR Club" ended up an utter trainwreck. Took nearly two years for the machine to pay for itself.

In other words kiddies, don't try this at home.

Edit: Actually, it's doing well NOW, unfortunately it only got good AFTER I graduated... disgust.gif bastards.

I have been giving serious consideration to trying to start a DDR club at my school. Unfortunatley I'm afraid that I would not be able to find enough people out of about 400 that go to my school. I have a few friends that are willing to try but if I had to guess I'd say about 80% of my schoolmates have never even heard of DDR. Can't say this suprizes me, Montana and sophistication are mutually exclusive.

The way ours is set up, there's about 10 or 15 'core players, the rest are average. The point isn't to get school funding for a machine, or get something we can't afford. We just need organization, or nobody would ever get together to play. We plan to buy metal pads, and most of the people who are fundraising have been playing for years (as in multiple) and are consistantly on heavy. It's never really been an individual effort on my part, except for organizing it.
I had my doubts after a few meetings, but we've had the same 'core people for 6 meetings now, and a steadily growing light-standard contingent. I assume that there will be a great deal of "transient players", but I'm willing to deal with them on the off-chance of seshing with some truly good (and fun) players. Screw my doubts. E13.gif
