Ok, for starters, this pad isn't in the pad index thread, and I searched ddrfreak and haven't found one thread on this pad. This is the RedOctane Pad that's a step below the ignition.

I have a RO ignition right now, but the up arrow blew on me after well over a year of playing, and I refuse to play on a pad that gives me bs misses on steps I clearly hit on time, which 99% of the time happen to be up arrow steps. I consider myself an expert player (9-10 footers). My ignition was my first pad. But enough about that.

Can anybody give me insight on the RO pad? It seems a decent price, and I might get the cover with it. I'm swaying from the RO cuz when I first got it I wasn't too good, but now I can pass Max 300 with a B without the bar and AA most songs on heavy. Case in point, my friend blew his RO ignition out after a few months or less. However, his official Xbox pad is doing him quite well, and he's better then me. So I thought, maybe flat pads are worth a try. I wanna get an RO pad cuz every other pad I looked seems like it will not fit my playing style. I'm 150 lbs. just in case. I'm also a poor high school student with a limited budget ($1000 in the bank, but hey, I gotta save for college). Fourty some bucks seems reasonable, and all and all RedOctane seems like the best place to buy aside from a Cobalt Flux.

If this isn't a good pad then could anybody suggest a decent pad for somebody of my skill (not an ignition, or a CF)?

If I read your post right, the RO pad you're talking about is similar to the NAKI pads or its clones. Therefore, I hardly doubt it'll last long.

well I don't know...I've heard of the Konami official pads lasting for several years, and supposedly this is more durable, so who knows. My RO ignition lasted for over a year before the up arrow got screwed up, and I hear of people on this board complaining after only a few weeks.

Anyway, everyone either has the RO ignition or metal pad, I need info from somebody who's tried the RO normal pad.

O.O

In a box, maybe. >.>

Don't count on *any* softpad lasting you longer than 3 months, modded or not.

Especially if you do Max 300 semi-regularly. >.>

yeesh. Looks like I need to save for a CF then huh? In the meantime I need a pad, cuz if I don't play DDR regularly I go into DDR withdrawl, and believe me, it is NOT pretty. If I go to the arcade often then it drains my CF fund. Yes, I have no life and spend my freetime playing DDR.

Haha. My Konami Official Softpad, which I purchased on the day Max2 came out in the States...is still alive to this day. However, I don't play that much with it and take pretty good care of it. It's unmodded, and I only play 9s and under on it. E10.gif I've beat MaxX on Max2 with this pad though. It's lasted quite long, I'm glad. biggrin.gif

What do you mean "not true"? I said "Don't expect it". That means it *could* happen, but you really shouldn't depend on it.

Individual experiences vary. In a panic I went out and bought a Mad Catz because I messed up my Ignition. It didn't last two hours. I had a similar experience with an official Konami soft pad. The moral of the story is that soft pads are temporary solutions; if you want something more substantial go with a metal pad or one with foam (although even then it may not last long).

Or if you have no other options, build a pad using some wire, glue, and aluminum foil on the soles of your feet. $5 "pad" E15.gif
