I ordered two cobalt fluxes at the end of december and I think mine are the next to ship out. I have heard that the screws are too tight from the factory and can cause cracking...is this true? Should I loosen them? Are there any other mods...like the paper/cardboard mod I should be aware of. Can you all point me to step by step instructions (if they exist) for the paper mod and cleaning of the cf. thanks

You have to unloosen them which usually gives you more accurate percision in the steps because they have to loosen them really tight for shipping.

ok, i have about 290 dollars saved up for my cf. can anybody tell me how much a cf is after shipping and handling, tax, and all that bs? (I live in New York)

Edit: Also, in all honesty and by somebody that has had both. Which is better, RO or CF? (im sure this question has been asked a thousand times but im too lazy to search the forums)

It depends on what you look for a pad. Some say the RO is better whilst other say the CF is better. They both have their individual traits they boast that the others don't have. My suggestion is to be unlazy and go through the threads so users don't have to repost the same information 34782384789234792347298347 times.

anyone ordering a pad, expect a long wait, its not 2 weeks like what it says on the site,

Im actually in week 4 right now, and its confirmed by several other recent customers it takes about 4 weeks to build and 1 week to ship so a total of 5 weeks to get a pad.

I emailed CF regarding the the delay and when my pad will actually ship. Ill post when I get a reply. erm.gif

Because of the holiday sale there is a pretty long wait for the pads...there's a thread on cobalt's forum http://www.cobaltflux.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=347&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=945 dedicated to posting order numbers and the current status (being built, shipped etc...). Just to give you a general idea I ordered mine on 12/31/04 and mine is still being built; definitely more than two weeks wait!

Jeremysomenumbers,

It really depends on what you want. I had both. My RO broke within 3 months. My CF is still perfect. Plus, as soon as I get unlazy and build the Exceed control box, I can use it for all PIUs in addition to DDR. If you're only going to use it for DDR, and $350 is too much, get the RO. It's not terrible, it's just not as good as the CF.

Thanks Ftahdr, I think ill just save up longer for the CF cuz in all honesty I want a pad that will last longer than 3 months. That is terrible for 200+ dollars.

if you buy a converter, i guess Madcatz Groovez or whatever the hell thats called, or stepmania. other than that, you can get slight enjoyment out of playing "regular controller" games with your cf, it can be fun with madden football laugh.gif

I tried the awesomely cheap E10.gif plastic pads with Grand Theft Auto vice City. Makes it more difficult i guess. plus there arent any R or L buttons. with the CFs, I like the idea of 9 panels, so i want to get the whole CF experience.

For those of you who are considering buying a Cobalt Flux Pad (or two), you should check out the Forums at the CF website for some helpful, detailed information. You can also check your order status there.

First of all, I don't really have a problem with the pads sliding around on carpet because the tape-on grippers that come with the pad do their job and I have two pads, so that's around 76lbs that you would have to try to move around on carpet...hard to do for me at least. I've heard that some people have some trouble with the CF pads sliding around a bit on carpet and while buying carpet gripper from Wal-Mart/-Insert Hardware store here- is a good fix for the problem, I would suggest buying something along the lines of velcro and taping the rough side to the bottom of the pad. The carpet would act as the soft side of the velcro and perhaps be a more long term solution than carpet gripper.

As for adjusting the screws, first of all, it is simply a matter of personal preference. We're talking millimeters difference here. The pads are perfectly fine with all of the screws firmly tightened on the Lexan buttons(as in they don't crack...or at least both of mine haven't). The main issue with that out of the box setup is that some people prefer to loosen the screws holding the buttons down (something like 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn...usually nothing more than that) because it causes the button to flatten out so you don't have to press down quite as firmly for the button to register (again, we're talking millimeters).

As for those alternate uses for a CF Pad, I've used it as an DVD controller. Interesting to see peoples' reactions at parties...wow, your pad can do THAT too?!

And let's not forget that the CF's can be used to play the Pump It Up setup on Stepmania.

Anyways, hope that was helpful to anyone interested in CFs. Peace.

i ordered my pads the 16th... todays what the 1st of febuary? its been 2 weeks and 2 days sence i ordered my set. the status is still "being built". i dout its being built. the status should tell the tuth. like id rather see Status: thinking about it. or Status: dont feel like it today. maybe tomorrow. i understand that lots of people are ordering their CFs around now but you'd think theyd hire more people. oh well itll be worth it once i get em. it would be nice to have my pads work on my computer. but i heard they dont have as correct timing as if you played on a PS2. i may be wrong though.

It was like this last year around this time. They've just got a lot of orders to fill.

Mine took nearly a month from order to arrival when I ordered it last February.
