We've all seen people make use of their middle finger in pictures of their DDR accomplishments. What's the significance of this?
Does it symbolize hate for the song?
Does it mean the accomplishment was hard to do?
Are they full of rage and don't know where to let it out?*
Is it the in thing to do? (If so, why did it become this way?)
Do they want to look like rebels? (Are they succeeding? )
Are they conformists who don't even know the significance?
I suspect a combination of the last three, but I really don't know.
Edit: The only sarcastic statement has a *. _________________

Usually they are pissed off that they get x number of greats/goods/whatevers
They are mad that they didn't get the AAA/AA/A/ whatever
Most of the time I see it with one great. |

Then they would be very stupid conformists. As others have said, it's usually used to signify being pissed off, just like it is in any other instance. Common sense usage. |

Nope, I was being serious.
When I think of people flipping off the machine, I think of somebody I've seen do it a few times for what seemed to be no reason. He'd play a song, get a score that's not too special, and flip it off. I didn't understand why he did this so I made this thread. I'm probably using this guy as an example of everybody else who does it, which is why I made the post sound the way it is. _________________

I hate it when people do that... It's kind of annoying.
Is it cool or something? Or when people cuss so loud in front of everyone? I mean, it is just a game... |

I find it retarded to flip off the machine. Is it going to respond to you? No. Are you going to get a better score for it? No. Though I admit, I find myself doing it sometimes like when I'm really tired and my mind wonders. If I don't AA Don't Stop or I Was The One after like an hour of play, my hand kinda instinctivley goes up. _________________

lol funny that this topic was made. I was just looking through my ddr videos and I noticed in almost all the videos where I did not live up to my own "standards" I guess you can say I give the camera the middle finger. So I guess my reasoning would be self let down and waste of camera space and batteries
Middle finger = Anger with self
In my case anyway |

I thought he was funny. :Dmwhahahah....
I agree that flipping off the machine OR kicking it. Or hitting the screen doesn't really do anything. If i'm disappointed with myself I usually fall to the ground and scream really loud "WHY ME!!!! AUGHHHHH!" hehehe..K not really. ONCE i A'd Sexy Planet on challenge getting 1 boo and 8 okay's and the rest perfect... and it was my first A. i was so excited and almost light headed that i kinda "fell into" the machine and my hand landed kinda hard on the screen..But i didn't mean to HIT it. as if angry...
So yeah...It's just funny to see people kick the machine or flip it off...Remind me of little kids.. |

I do that, but I've always seen an outward "V" as meaning "Victory", like anime characters do. Btw, love the Sharingan avatar.
I've never flicked off the screen in a DDR picture, but I have flicked off the screen a few times when I'd get BS scores (Like 200+ perfects and 30 or so greats and not get an AA). _________________

Grr, I hate it when people say "flicked off" instead of "flipped off". It makes me so mad.
I don't really ever flip off the camera, but I don't care when others do. It's kinda dorky, but whatever floats your boat. |

Basically, it means "F#ck You" to the difficulty of the song and the meaning we give to that song. It is a symbol of conquering. Most do it for AAAs, some for SDG's. It's like saying "See, it's not bad! I did it!" _________________

Bunch of stupid people, I've never played at the arcade but I'd assume they did poor and can't accept it so they're a bunch of losers and blame everything else like the machine. Maybe they think they look cool by flipping off the machine but in really they look like A FOOL! |

I don't do it on purpose, but I flip off the machine for one of two reasons that are total opposites.
1. If I AAA something or if I pass a 10 that I haven't passed before (Yeah, I still haven't passed all of the 10's...back off) I'll give it the finger as if to say "Yeah song, you's my b*tch now!"
2. If I mess up something really bad...like a black flag, or before I passed Maxx, I played it and failed cause my foot came off of the last freeze. Then I do it to say, "Damnit song, why can't I beat/AAA you?"
I always do it at really bad times, too. I'll be like "F*ck you Legend of Max," flip the bird, and turn around to see an entire family taking a break from their kid's birthday party to watch me play..and I just feel like a jag.
Once again, I don't intend to do it, it's just a spur of the moment kind of thing. _________________

Just because your middle finger is directed at the machine doesn't mean that you are doing it for the sake of the machine, usually it is to show others your displeasure with the results / the effort the song took to AAA.
Unless someone flips off a machine in a completely private and photograph absent environment, then they are just plain stupid. |
