why dont the mods/admins just move them to the correct place unless a topic like it already exists? it would really save members time and admins/mods to by doing this and we can keep the good active topics under one section up there without a ton of locked ones hiding them |

It's a good idea in theory, bt often the thread's creator, finding their topic missing, will create another one. Simply moving a thread also tends not to impress on their mind the importance of correct forum placing. Mods shouldn't have to be maids. _________________

Because we used to and it made people give a damn even less. They'd stop caring where they posted a topic because they knew it would get moved. Now we lock threads and people get to post where it belongs if they want their information. _________________

Didn't we have this thread 37893423942 times? There's a feature on forums called Search. It'd be very helpful for you to use it, so that people don't have to answer it another 34729472349 times. _________________

Mods shouldn't have to move topics, ever (at least at this board). The descriptions of what belongs on each board is not subtle at all; it's very straightforward and frank. If people can't grasp this concept and continually post topics in the wrong forum, then they are retarded. _________________

But they shuld not recieve warning points for it. No warning points should ever be given for making a retarted or out-of-place topic. _________________

We only rarely give out points in that case. _________________

I give 1 point for retarded/pointless/stupid topics all the time. You get 9 points before getting banned. If someone actually reaches that limit, he/she certainly deserves to be banned. _________________

correct me if im wrong but when moving a topic does it leave a link saying MOVED: Topic name here? the forum i was at had an option to let that link stay for a few days and then it just removed it once and for alll, is that capable here? that would stop them from being stupid lol.....also if this thread was made "248234823908" times, im sorry but i didnt think it would hurt to suggest......even so i got a lot of stuff going on my pc all the time lol so i only search for stuff if im looking on how to do something or looking for a download for something (ex: Stepmania online etc...) |

phpBB currently bumps the Shadow Topic along with the regular topic whenever it gets bumped, so that would not help.
Plus, no, if someone's just lazy, it won't help teach them anything. They'll just expect us to do the work all the time. _________________

Yes, and the search feature is not perfect. I wanted to know all about soft pad mods and did a search and found NO topics that came up with it.
yet there are plenty of posts with the words "soft" "pad" and "mods" in them.
While it is annoying to see the same question repeated over and over again, it is even MORE annoying to see 5 or 6 simultaneous conversations in one uber thread that has no flow.
At least with Mr. Repeating question, I can look at the topic heading and say to my self "not interested" and move on to a single topic I am interested in.
In locking threads and forcing all users to use 5 or 6 "uber" threads, then I get all that garbage in the middle of an ongoing conversation that consistently interrupts the flow.
maybe I am in the minority, but I would rather sift through multiple threads asked repeatedly over and over again, then deal with multiple interruptions in the threads that interest me that do nothing except disrupt the flow of the conversation.
Thread topics should be narrow enough to keep the conversation on track but must not be so broad that the conversation is fragmented and disruptive like an earlier "all soft pad topics here" thread. |

So why did you either a) make a new topic or b) bump an older topic after you made a new one?
Now all you're doing is contributing to the clutter. You may not mind it, but we do.
