there is no way they could fine every person who downloaded something. I mean, there are probably tens of millions of people who download songs off the internet. Besides, DDRUK doesn't require you to give an address.

No, but as was previously stated they do log IPs. That's how the feds have tracked down mp3 users through the P2P networks.

Don't worry, don't worry. The P2P network busts were all targeted against people SHARING songs; usually in access of 1000. They were, using an analogy to drugs, trying to get the drug dealers off the street, not the users.

Currently this site has had to be placed into a temporary state of closure. This is in direct response to communication from the IFPI in regards to a variety of links and files that were available from this site.
No direct legal action is being raised, and this action has been voluntarily undertaken.
We hope for normal service to resume soon.

If no action was taken against the site that had thousands of songs illegally available to millions of users (Yes, a fine would constitute legal action), then I really doubt that they will be taking action against the downloaders.

Also note, this is not just wishful thinking; I have not done any downloading off of DDRUK in a long while and only downloaded, at most, 20 files or so. I am the last person they would target, besides those who never downloaded off their website at all.

They still have to subpeona your ISP for your contact information if the ydon't cooperate. Many ISPs will not give out any of that info to anyone (RIAA, MPAA, etc.) at this time without a subpeona. Sure they might have someone's IP address but they still have to take legal action if the ISP does not cooperate. This gets really expensive for a large scale bust so they stick to the easy targets who's ISP's don't really mind violating their own privacy policies.

Oh, so now we're supposed to believe that Canadians are allowed to download any copyrighted MP3 they want, and Americans aren't? Good one. Talk about wishful thinking.

What a surprise, Canada still sucks!

Jeez, noone is going to get a fine for downloading DDR songs.

If anyone gets fined, it would be DDRUK for hosting the SM files. Mean as it may sound, they have it comming if they host files like that without the proper permission.

Its also not economically sound to persue legal action against the DDRUK users, because they would have to prove that any mp3's downloaded from the site were done so illegally for each person that legal action was persued against. The only way to do this would involve searches of a persons home. Anyone who downloaded simfiles for mixes they bought legitimately would be in the clear, because then it consititutes a backup. So if you downloaded all the simfiles for the PS2 Max2 which you already own, it would be considered legal, and there would be nothing they could do.

i guess what im trying to say is the chance of you getting sued for downloading a simfile is probabally less than your chance of getting struck by lightening.

Actually, the RIAA and RIAC tried to subpoena Canadian ISPs for names; the supreme court told them to screw off and therefore set a precedent which made it technically legal for us to download mp3s.

they can't track everybody that way. a lot of people have dynamic IPs (ones that change) and some people use proxies.

Even IF they could track you, how can they possibly sue? On DDRUK's download page, I have never ONCE seen a warning about the downloads being illegal. They have no case if the downloaders didn't even know they were doing anything wrong.

Hahaha, yeah that's ridiculous.

First, by your logic the defense would then have to prove that DDR UK is the only site they have ever been to. Because if they went to any other site chances are they'd see some talk about mp3s and how downloading copyrighted material is illegal. Then they'd have to prove that the person doesn't watch the news. Then they'd have to prove that the person lived in a cave, because OF COURSE PEOPLE KNOW IT'S ILLEGAL. Maybe a couple years ago you could say you didn't know, but now? Come on.
