Both.
You can't just walk into a store, plop down a wad of cash for their most expensive shoes, and suddenly be a force of nature on DDR.
At the same time, even if you have plenty of experience under your belt, it helps a lot to have something comfortable to wear on your feet. _________________

If your playing at home, i suggest going without shoes.
If your in the arcade, go with comfortable tennis shoes. |

My chucktaylors are *plenty* comfortable on DDR, as they are basketball shoes.
We have a whole thread on this. _________________

Some people think the kind of shoes you wear matters - such as in the Shoes sticky.
I don't think what kind matters, but how often you play in them does.
Example - I began playing DDR in combat boots with 3" heels. They probably weigh an extra five pounds. But I've always played in them, so I'm USED to them. Playing in anything else would just feel weird. But other people, who are more used to lighter/smaller shoes, might not do very well in my boots.
I'm sure that someone who, for whatever reason, played only in 6" heels would be able to play in them just fine, even if other people couldn't. It's just a matter of what you're used to. _________________

DDR is 50% brains
25% legs
and 25% strength
Well in my opinion.....
Somewhere in there you could find the all important element of foot wear.
Remember my child, the feet are the most important part of DDR since they are the ones that make contact. Having proper shoes could mean all the difference. You can't just prance in there with snowboots and AAA a song.
For me, I wear shoes that I know will help me play DDR.
Something that has good soles to stick to the pad and give me a good feel of where my foot is. Also it must be comfortable, well broken in. _________________
