I thought someone should start a "Hey I'm poor, please help" thread so I thought why not me? I thought we could share tips on how to get cheap (and legal!) DDR games/CDs/pads/etc and on which are the best deals. sometimes its hard navigating through the prices on all the retail sites and keeping it straight!

I'd really appreciate it if someone would answer these questions. I'm sure some other people have been wondering too.

Is EBAY a good place to get good quality stuff? There's quite a bit there, including games for $40 including 2 pads, but I'm weary of getting poor quality stuff. Experience anyone?

For someone who has just a gamecube (no DDR!!!), what would you recommend XBOX or PS2? I can't afford both. Are the games about the same in quality...in songs? right now, I'm really leaning toward a PS2...

Would you recommend buying a used system? Or always new with a system? They have bundles of systems, pads, and games on ebay.

If you could recommend any game to a person who can only buy one at this time, what would it be? Max? Max2? Extreme? Disney? Kontamix?

And finally...the pads...I really don't want a cheapy pad. I'm thinking about actually buying the redOctane ignition. Is it worth the price ($100 at Bestbuy.com)? I know the konami ones are about $50, right? And if it costs $25 to mod it...that's only $25 less...

Oh, and does anyone know if any retailers sell cheaper and/or used DDR games?

Thanks tons!

Peace
Rick

When you see something on ebay thats 40+15 for shipping for a game and 2 pads, the pads are terrible. It is worth it just to go out to walmart or game stop and buy the game for $5 more with a GOOD pad that sticks to tile.

Xbox Vs PS2...
I liked ultramix 1, alot of songs that i thought were good, same goes for max2. But extreme and ultramix 2 were poopy, Its your call. I would personally get Xbox because of the other games that are on there.

I have a ps2 but the Ultramixes looked pretty good. Of the PS2 games max is pretty good if you can get your hands on it. It starting to decline in numbers. If youre going to get an ignition dont get the redoctane. The BnS and level six are both just as good for at least $50 cheaper. Hope this helps

I faced a similar problem when I wanted to hook my brother up with ddr (he goes to college). The cheapest way I could think of was to get him stepmania and order one of the foam USB pads off of levelsix.com. They are the same quality as the other ignition pads, but only cost about 44$, and you don;t need a console or console games to use it.

i am a really cheap guy too so here's what i did and what you should do:
first download stepmania for your computer and then download all the songs for free. then buy a usb converter and 2 third party ignition pads off ebay. the converter will cost you about $10-12 shipped, and i bought 2 ignition pads for $35 shipped on ebay. they are basically exactly the same as the redoctance ones but a heck of a lot cheaper ($35 vs $200+).

The cheapest way besides Stepmania:

Since I played on Ps2 first, I thought Ultramix was damn horrible. Less responsive, REALLY flashy (can anyone say seizure? Can I spell it?), and the way the songs are set is hard to get used to. If your budget is $300 I'd get:

ps2- $150
One of these games: Extreme if you're expirienced(sp)- $50, Max if you have endurance- $30? Max2 if you're new- $40?
RO Ignition soft pad-100

I just hate the Ultramixes, especially Ultramix2 on a CF... horrible.

Hi, thansk all for the tips! I know this will work out for me.

Can someone pelase explain stepmania? That one post was over my head...

Are the 3rd party ignition pads okay? One of you says to buy the ignition pad from redoctane and others say not worth it...hmm...I haven't had a chance to really compare all of them. i read the RedOctane has extra padding for comfort?

I think I'd rather stick with console right now. the computer isn't teh same I don't think... I think i'm at the computer enough and it's ahrder to see for me.

I'm at level six now so i amy try them out. Can anyone explain hwo they sell them for the same price as a flismy konami one? that seems really weird...

Peace and THANK YOU!
Rick

This is totally the wrong board for this, but since you're asking, I've been through a lot of pads, and the main difference between the ebay pads and the RO's is durability. I've killed so many ebay pads, I've lost count. The RO I have has lasted much, much longer.

I've got a red octane metal pad. $200. That baby is worth the price of admission if you ask me. 40 pounds of solid metal, plastic and sensors means no missing arrows because the crappy pad moved out from under you. if you can find a cheaper pad online somewhere, then cudos to you but I looked all over the place and I could only find it at redoctane.com. Also, on the ps2 vs x-box debate, I'd go with ps2 because ultramix gives you such a limited selection of songs. then you have to pay $5 to download additional songs on x-box live. Plus, I didn't really like the song selection.

http://www.stepmania.com/ - the game
http://www.ddruk.com/ - the songs (members only, but it's free to sign up)
http://www.google.com/ - look fo a computer adapter for your home pad unless you want to use your keyboard.

the third party ignition pads i have feel exactly the same as the red octanes. as for durability, i don't know yet. i've had the pads for a couple weeks now and i play all heavy songs. so far the pads are still working great.

Everybody loves PS2 because of the games (not DDR). XBOX is way better. It has awesome games (Unreal, HALO, ) for true gamers. As it goes for DDR I have played Max 2, it has a good song list. I personally own an XBOX and both UM1 and UM2. UM1 has a very good but small song list. Songs include Max 300, Dive, Tsugaru, .59, Candy (heart), Sweet Sweet Love Magic, etc. Like I said the song list is good but small it has a total of about 60 songs.

UM2 is totally friggin' awesome here are some of the songs Max 300 (Super-Max-Me-Mix), Maxx Unlimited, My Summer Love, Dam Dariram, B4U, VOL.4, A, V (for Extreme), 321 Stars, etc. Some good NEW songs are G2(10 ft), Toe Jam (9), Superstar (Nevarakka Mix)(Nothing Like the Original)(7). it also has some cross overs from Beatmania like Starmine(8), Hit 'n' Slap(6), and 19 November (8)

I have heard MIXED reviews about DDR EXTREME. But I have heard alot more people say that it sucks. They said UM2 is 1,000,000 times better. But Ive also heard from some people that its good. I would get XBOX. If you have anymore questions email me at [email protected] E1.gif
