Is there anyone who couldn't dance before, and now can because of DDR? Or at least improved their ability when dancing to music?
Just curious if DDR helped anyone in this area. |

Yeah, before, I was just a typical white guy, but now, I go to all the dances, and I bust out the most complex cross overs I can, and everyone is like "WHOOMP! WHOOMP! WATCH OUT! THE ROOF IS ON FIRE! GO GO GO GO GOOOO DAN, WIKITY WIKITY WAH! IT'S YER BIRTHDAEEEE!" And its so true.
In other words, no. I don't think DDR improved my dancing talent. _________________

I suck at all dancing except at DDR dancing. I can't dance...at all or I just look stupid.
I don't see how DDR is dancing though.... more like aerobic stepping...unless you add some free styling to it. |

DDR is not danceing. It may help u dance better a little bit because it teaches you to follow the beat better. But if ur at a dance or a club you definately woudnt hear the music and do ddr steps to it or you would probly be laughed at and thrown the fudge out. _________________

Actually, I got into DDR because I love to dance. It never helped me get any better at dancing, though I already know how.
I'm also curious to see if it helped anyone else. I'm sure it can help your sense of rhythm to some degree... |

Unless you're talking about freestyle, DDR has nothing to do with dancing. _________________

I don't think it's help or negated my dancing skills. I could dance before I played and I could probably still dance but I don't really dance in front of anyone anymore though. It's helped my hand eye cordination a little bit though. |

Dance for real? I can't even freestyle. And besides, moving without the arrows telling you to? That's just silly. _________________

As far as aiding in dancing, it could, at the very most, give you a better sense of rhythm. That's about it. |

I suppose it can help you feel rhythm, and therefore follow the song better if you were to dance - that seems quite reasonable. It may also help indirectly if you were shy to perform in public perhaps, or at least convince you to look into different dance styles.
I know some people whom I think are quite outgoing, but they really won't try DDR at the arcade, because they don't want to make a show or look stupid if they suck, etc
I would say I am somewhat shy, but I have no problem hopping on a DDR machine in public and giving it a go. |

AX (Anime Expo): 2004...enough said.
anyways on topic, it has improved my dancing ability slightly, but mainly because it got me interested in actual forms of dance. i freestyled for awhile (not well). that didn't help because i never learned to feel less restrained by the arrows (concidering i am a PAer). i can hold my own at a dance/club/whatever...good times. |

When you are playing DDR you don't neccesarily dance unless you make it look like you're dancing. Most people I see just step on the arrows and move really fast. Now if you can step on the arrows and move quickly without makin' that stomping noise and lookin' fluid then that's dancing. _________________
