Although arcade is often better, some arcades neglect their machines (Putt-Putt) and the speakers only play through 1 channel, and the screen flickers and goes out, and the arrows hardly register anything other than an angry 500 pound gorilla on crystal meth.
My solution is cobalt- yeah it's like $300, but if you do the math:
$300 = 400 plays on a 75cent machine
if you play 5 times per visit that's 80 visits, 40 visits if you play 10 times
if you visit 5 times a week that's 8-16 weeks.
So you can have it payed for in a couple months, plus have tourneys at your own home, charge entry fees and pay it off even quicker |

I'm kind of tied between the two.
I have a RedOctane at home. I like it for practicing things I've never done before, and it's completely embaressment-free when I can be alone.
But the arcade is awesome because it's the real deal. It's great for showing off what you've been practicing. _________________

arcade is definetly better, crowds watching you, staring in awe...greatest thing i personally dont have ddr pads at home...never really wanted to waste my money on them..or a system and the few times i have played at friends houses it just doesnt seem the same |

I like the arcade better but i've only played on the soft pad at home and it just doesn't fit me well. _________________

Arcade, because playing DDR alone is boring as all hell. DDR isn't any fun without friends and/or spectators. _________________

i love both the arcade and home. With my Modded CB metal pad its pretty fun, and for some reason, harder then playing at the arcade. although that sounds bad, it prepares me for the arcade and i finally, get those good scores at the arcade.... so... i think both are great. anyway, does ANYONE have an official Konami metal pad? i really am curious about it and want to ask questions on how well it works and stuffs... i have a picture of one and they look gorgeous... |

Personally i think all of the people that like home more have either one of two things, either isnt good enough, or thinks the arcade is harder because you dont have one place on the pad where you can press on all of the arrows at ounce. Either you have no talent or have no friends it doesnt matter arcade is def...better |

The arcade is ALL better than playing at home. The arcade machine has WAY more songs, u can make friends, get crowds, the accuracy and resonse is better than any home pad (though im not sure about the CF pad), the bar (and don't say anything about those home ones with the bar. they all have wood which will start chiping with extream gameplay, and the buttons r made of acrylic and it is not shatter proof).
u all no im right |

Yes we all know your right
Im starting to lean more towards arcade now cause of all the above reasons but my main reason is that there are more selections and its harder to triple ace songs. At home nobody plays anymore but me and im starting to get nothing but AA and some AAA (except for the 10 ftrs.) Arcade is helping out my PA. That and i have people to challenge! |

Another thing thats not as good about arcade (but this will vary by location) is that you can never hear the music as good as you would be able to at home on nice speakers. For a $5000 arcade machine, you'd think they could put some REALLY high quality speakers in it (like bose or something). I honestly think the speakers on every DDR machine ive seen aren't that great. And paired with the excessive background noise found in most arcades, the arcade DDR music experience isn't all that great. |
Yeah, I know that was an old post but I did NOT feel like reading 13 other pages (or however many). Yeah, good thing about the arcade here is that it's so tiny that the sound of the DDR Extreme machine can be heard almost throughout the entire bowling alley (yes, it's in a bowling alley). But on topic, I prefer arcade to home. For one, there are people there, which force you to take a rest since you wait in line, thus meaning you spread out your energy and don't get pooped in about a half an hour or an hour. Depending on the crowd, arcade can own. _________________

The arcade has a better ambiance and you play harder there.

You can't compare this,it's like comparing a cat and a dog.
Arcade:
Pros:
-Metal pad
-People watching you
-Girls saying "OMG,HE'S SO GOOD!!!!" when u do The legend of max on standard
-Freestyle (easier to do freestyle in front of a bunch of people than doing it at home )
-Noise (the place i usually play is quite quiet...so when i play DDR,everyone in the arcade listen to the song your playing)
Cons:
-The metal pad is usually f****d up
-Noob who plays begginner mode attract more people than you for no reasons
Home:
Pros:
-Online playing (Xbox)
-Mission mode
-Downloadable songs
-Max. (period) ^^
Cons:
-Foam pads
-Too much easier than the arcade _________________

Arcade's better. One, it's kinda easier. . . after all, it is a metal pad you're using (not unless it's messed up). Two, you always have people watching you. And three, (in my case) I get to kick guy's @$$' when they want to battle me. _________________

i have my problems with both.
Home:
bad song lists
off sych steps
messed grading system
screwed up home pads
music videos...a horrible idea (eg Days Go By)
DDR MAX 2 <<--absence of Oni Mode
Arcade:
hecklers
neglectful arcade (usually big arcades)
crowds
limited to one mix
high prices
BUT all in all:
is home and is arcade _________________
