I have read the thread discussing the rational behind locking threads, which coincidently is locked so I created this new thread.
I understand that moderators don't want to just move threads around because people don't learn. But, today I have had to post a thread three times because moderator A says the post belongs in forum B and moderator B says the post belongs in forum C. This is not the first time I have seen this.
This, IMO, just clogs up the board with useless posts. I propose three solutions:- Bring back topic moving, but give warning points to those who can't figure out where to post
- Allow the post originator to move their own post (may be kind of tricky to implement)
- Allow the post originator to delete their own posts (not ideal, but it removes the useless post)
I just think it would be a better place with post moving. The Official Playstation board moderators do post moving and it seems that they don't have to do it too often. Maybe in the past the forum categories were not as well defined as they are now. Could you give it another shot? _________________

Nah, maybe when most of the poster's intelligence goes up they're implement it. Until then, it's good as it is for now.
However, if I recall correctly the forums do get cleaned out regularly. _________________

I didn't know that they did that!
I personally think that the site needs to have the important threads backed up (IE, the stickies) and have a full system wipe, although, the site would be down for day's. _________________

This is not the first time I have seen this. | In this particular case, you'll have to forgive us because we don't seem to have the line clearly drawn yet between what belongs in Simulators and what belongs in Controllers/Hardware. Furthermore, not all of the moderators leave their own territory, so P-Chan probably didn't know about a distinction between Controllers/Hardware and Simulators with regards to pad adapters.
I really have to say that a chunk of this blame falls on your shoulders though. DDR Chit-Chat was never the place for this to begin with, and not only did you post this in the Controllers/Hardware forum, but you ignored the "Official Pad Adapter Thread", where I have a line that points you straight to the relevant sticky thread in Simulators. I may not have specifically mentioned LPT adapters (and I have since corrected this), but I did specifically state that the thread in Controllers/Hardware was *ONLY* for console adapters, and that USB adapters should go in the Simulator thread. Now, I'm not going to say anything regarding any intelligence or lack thereof, but had you read that sticky to begin with, I think you would have been able to make the leap of logic required to take your complaint straight to the appropriate sticky. digifork wrote: | I just think it would be a better place with post moving. When a topic is moved on the Playstation forums, the topic stays in the original forum as a link to the other forum that says "Topic moved to BLAH BLAH forum". So everyone can see where the post belongs. _________________

Same thing happens here, but really, its just a waste of space. Look at the headline forum. _________________

Look at the headline forum. | No, we generally don't use Shadow Topics (Headlines is a singular notable exception) because phpBB doesn't let Shadow Topics gracefully die - They get bumped whenever the target topic gets bumped.
If this were not the case (IE - Move a topic, shadow stays for a couple of days and then disappears), then I'm sure we would be more than happy to relax the rules on topic moves.
Sssh....Does anyone hear that sound? I think it's Jason making a mad dash to the thread to preach the glory of phpBB 2.2! _________________

I'd rather lock the thread then give warning points out to people. The only time we moved threads was when people couldn't figure out where to post. So lots more people would get warning points for smaller offenses.

Dear God no. If they can't figure out where to put it in the first place, then why would we expect them to place it in the right place the second time? Even if we told them, giving them the option to move it would require us to somehow make it so they could only move it to certain places. If they moved it to a place different than where we told them, it would either have to be moved again or all sorts of problems would exist. We'd have more clutter than before.

I'd say no for the same reason that we don't delete the threads ourselves. We keep locked threads around not to make the forums full of clutter, but because we know people will read them. Then they can figure out why it was locked. Hopefully so it won't happen again. _________________

I think that upgrading the forum software is needed, JUST for this reason, although you would have to do something to the headline section _________________

If you're trying to throw off the shackles of a posting history, however, fear not - We'll be keeping that burgeoning, bleeding mass of posts around. _________________

I personally think they should stop moving threads and do what DDR Freak do for the same reasons of learning and all that good stuff. |
