Ah, those who can't use dos, I created a frontend for it... However, I'm not at the computer which I created it on, and my host hateth me.
Anyone who wants it can email me for now, [email protected] (not icyshadow ~.~) and I'll try to find a somewhat more reliable host.
thnx

Great idea if you ask me.

As far as I'm concerned, the main attraction of this program is the automatic finding of the bpm and gap, which is more often than not the worst headache in creating a .dwi file. That said, maybe what you could do is make a simpler version of the program that simply calculates the bpm and gap, and leave it up to the user to write their own steps, which they should do anyway. Perhaps a future version of the program could account for tempo changes. |

Actually I also like the idea of autogen steps, because they give you a basis to build your steps on. That's probably how the folks at Konami write their steps. |

(Aplogies if this has already been mentioned, but after reading 3 pages of "I can't use DOS!", I was not inspired to slog through 10 more to see if this had come up.)
I was reading through your paper, and got to the part where you were testing your bpm detection algorithm on official ddr songs. You excluded any song that changes bpm, as that's outside the scope of your algorithm, but you used Electro Tuned in your test. Electro Tuned changes bpm, subtly; take a look. That's probably why it was the only song that the algorithm failed on.
Any progress on getting it to work better on bpm changes? Or, now that the project is over, have you dropped this project to the wayside? |

Ok, I have this to say: I am a noob with creating my own steps for Stepmania. I was using this program to help me a little with placing the steps and getting the Gap and BPM exactly correct cause my friend lost the original file to his damn good song(He makes his own music and I picked his best one). The song was also a little hard to follow with so much going on so I didn't expect it to be exactly how I want it. So after i get the program working and leave it to the next day to edit with my EditPad Lite program, I save it but the simulation is still the same. I reopened the .dwi and my changes were still there. Im quite confused and I also wanted to know how to get rid of a freeze the simulation put there? It practically skips over a whole section with that freeze. _________________

Best and most painless way of getting rid of those troublesome pauses is using stepmania to delete them.
Then again, it's just a tool with the practicality of figuring out bpm and gap (within 30 or 50 depending on codec) and giving a little structure to the stepfile.
Take it as you will.

I have been working for an hour to get this to work! I keep looking through the pages to get something and try that but none of it helps. All that happens is that the screen pops up for .0(bar over the 0)1 seconds then disappears. What could i possibly be doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated. _________________

CMeyer930: It's a dos program, so there's command lines; if you can't use those command lines, email me, and I'll send you a front end to the program.

Ok Mine gets past the Found BPM and Gap part, then some things after that.
Then It just exits really fast. It is hard to read what the error is, but I think I got it:
Error: Invalid Fid
I have no clue what this means
any help
BTW i was using G2
edit:
nvm I got it to work. Just it follows the 8th notes instead of the 4th notes for the main beat, well atleast on G2, but i haven't tried any other songs _________________

I believe you only downloaded the patch, not the actual program. |

You've got to run the program and use those parameters. If you start with "outrageous.mp3", all you're asking your PC to do is open the MP3 file, which is exactly what it's doing. |
