Worked in the exact opposite way for me. I got better at band by playing DDR. I always had trouble with rhythms, rests, etc. (esp. 1/16ths of them) and by playing DDR and actually being able to interact with these rhythms in an environment that I understood, I learned how to deal with them in band. In conclusion, I=weird. _________________

I*ve been in school band for about 5 years now, It doesn*t help you any. I know some people that have tried playing it, and they just can*t and they don*t understand the game at all |

I wouldn't exactly say it does. Sure, you get the concept a lot faster; I know I did just by lookin' at the screen, but it doesn't mean you'll be a better ddrist.
But it helped me to keep on the beat whilst marching, and help me sight read faster and better, like Lunartick. |

I highly doubt that Band helps with DDR. I even doubt that dancing helps with DDR.
The simple matter is: you have to play DDR to help with DDR. Sure, Band can help with beat comprehension, but you won't ever follow through with your skill unless you practice stepping in relation to seeing arrows. Simple as that.
Band doesn't really have much relation outside beat comprehension, which I doubt is enough to consider as an independent method of getting better at DDR. To be quite honest, I see band more as a group containing a LOT of DDR players (at least, in my community, which includes every band team in it), which could benefit in the social motivation...but that could go with many things.
I think Track does better justice than Band. After all, your leg endurance is much more important of the gameplay. |

You're right, it doesn't. Of course, I take ballroom dance, which is about as far from DDR as you can get. _________________

I actually think band does help. In DDR you react to arrows while keeping a beat and/or latently absorbing the song. If you are stepping to the melody, then you have to be able to hear that melody. I think musicians are used to listening to music as they are doing other things, like playing their instrument, and reading their music.
I know a lot of band people, and as a general rule, the better musicians pick up the game quicker. And they can go further. The one exception that I know, who is an amazing player, is amazed by how quickly the band people are catching up to her in skill. |
