I found an error in the DDR dictionary. For Beginner, it says that all Beginner songs are 1 step. This is not true, as there are a few that are 2 steps and if I remember right, one of the Maxes or Paranoias is 3 on beginner. Just letting you know.

I believe Dance Dance Revolution was also a 3 on beginner.

That entry was made back when DDRUSA and some European version were the only DDR versions with Beginner, and they all were rated 1-foot.

Useless facts: starting with Extreme, the Beginner rating is dependent on the speed of the song.
under 180 = 1, 180-around 250 = 2, above around 250 = 3.

DDR the song is 3 on Beginner because the BPM value given to it is 999, which is the value used by the game to displayed the haywire (numbers going crazy) BPM.

The highest a Beginner song's difficulty can be is a 3. Therefore, beginner songs usually have difficulties from 1-3 feet.

Is there any documentation of that fact? Or is it just the fact that there haven't been any Beginner ratings over 3?

If DDR is rated a 3 for having the haywire BPM going to 999 then Id say yes. I can't think of a single song with a BPM over 1000.

The BPM counter only has three digits. E10.gif

Yes, there is no beginner song over 3. MAXDOT and Paranoia Respect are only 3s on Beginner.

Perhaps I wasn't clear when I quoted you. Lemme try again.

That's what I'm curious about. Currently, you see a rule which states the difficulty of songs, but it could just be coincidence. I don't see how you can definitively state that the highest a Beginner song's difficulty will *ever* be is a 3. Thus far that has held to be the case, but you cannot logically prove that they will *always* be less than or equal to 3 (unless you're internal to Konami E13.gif).

Ultramix 2 could throw this rule out the window. Not only will there be more songs with Beginner steps, but there will be Double and Quad Beginner stepcharts.

Yes, I remember that before on the DDRFreak Dictionary it stated that and I've always thought that as 10s on Heavy are 3s on Beginner.

From fooling around with the BPM and difficulties in various games, I can say that almost all the games with Beginner have the step ratings for them between 1 and 3 and rely on BPM for the rating, as I said in a previous post. If you change the Beginner rating (which are all defined as 1), nothing will change when you see the rating on the game screen. If you change the BPM to something really high, the Beginner rating will be 3 on the game screen.

I think the only exception is MAX2 US ver., where the Beginner ratings are explicitly defined instead of relying on the BPM. You could make a 10-footer beginner rating, I don't know why you would though. laugh.gif

Doubles doesn't have Beginner steps, and I doubt quad mode would either.

But yes, that may change.

I havn't seen a 2 foot difficulty in DDR Extreme, but I remember in 3rd mix and DDR USA (PSX) that it had a couple of 2 step beginner songs.

I seem to remember that too. I'll have to look later.

Obviously, it doesn't apply for everything but I used that as an example for songs that have rediculously high BPMs for beginner players. Like my best friend who just started out wouldn't want to play MaxX Unlimited on Beginner since it's at a high BPM value AND it's a 3 and he's only up to 2s.
