The IIDX forum? Also, posting the same thing in multiple threads isn't cool.

I'm guessing one of these has been asked, but could someone answer them or direct me to where I can find out. Anyways here it goes:

THE STORY: I just started playing beatmania at my local arcade and then I went on a trip and found a IIDX machine. Here's where my questions come in:

1. Can you use a IIDX controller for a regular beatmania game? I mean it has two more buttons, so should you be able to use it, but I don't know (there could be a format differance (the way the game reads the controller) too couldn't there).

2. When I looked at the picture of the box for the IIDX controller (official one by Konami) it looked like the turntable was on the left side, is it? (Only answer the next question if the answer to the last one was yes) If so does it make any differance in how you do since the arcade verson is on the opposite side?

And just for the heck of it, whoever answers this, do you like 5 or 7 keys better? Thanks to whoever answers this.

How good is this Guitar Freaks controller? There's a bunch of them on ebay and they're a lot cheaper than the official ones.

A few assorted IIDX Questions:

1)I've heared someone mention something about modding the Konami IIDX controller to make it feel more like the arcade. Does it really feel that differient, would it even be worth it? (They say it's easy, that you have to take some part out from the buttons)

2) How often do you have to clean out the buttons to keep them responsive (if at all)

3)I just ordered the official Konami IIDX controller (hasn't arrived yet), if I gett bad-ass good with this controller, will I be able to play at the arcades without too much adjustment? (Will it feel wierd at first, or will it be like DDR? IE easier on the arcade pads)

I've always been better in the arcade. I can't stand the huge-as-ass buttons they use in the home version controller. It makes it hard to reach all the keys with one hand.

1) Well, you can spring mod it but that's incredibly damaging to the controller if not done right. I think you might be referencing the cardboard mod which is incredibly simple and instructions can be found all over ddrfreak and bemanistyle for.

2) I bought my controller used in the middle of july and gave them a cleaning once when I got and it has yet to even come close to sticking.(not modded yet)

3) It will be a little bit tougher adjusting to the scratch pad being farther away but in general yes the buttons are higher quality/register better at the arcade so it usually turns out easier after the initial adjustment.

Rule of thumb, if its not a DDR pad and doesn't have a Konami logo on it, it probably sucks. The only thing this rule doesn't apply to is custom controllers.

Thanks, much, Moto...

The mod I read about was the cardboard one, which sounds fiendishly simple. I'll probably do it just to see if it feels better, it's so easy (and reversible)
I find it interesting that you've gone 2 months with no sticking or cleaning, because the people at Bemanistyle seem to make it sound like it happens after about a week or so...

I'll see for myself soon enough, my controller is in the mail. Somehow I suspect hat I won't have to clean it too often...

Most people take apart an actual controller. Youd prolly have better look on Bemanistyle

I'm looking at Pop'n Music controllers, and there seems to be three different kinds:

-ASC (~$400)
-green little Midget (~$40)
-and this black transparent one (~$70)

I don't want one of these really tiny ones; can anyone tell me approximate dimensions of this black transparent one? None of these import sites say how big it is!

Do you only want an official Konami controller? I have a Konami ASC, but you can get a Ransai or Desktop Arcade controller for a lot less.

The small controllers are significantly smaller, the entire full size controller is as wide as 3 of the buttons on the ASC. Plus they're so extremely sensitive, its like you can breathe on the buttons and theyll register.

I'm new to the game, so I'm not going to buy a ACS or Ransai. I'm just wondering if the black one is any bigger than the $50 11" green one. Or is there another option (aside from building my own) that is any bigger. I just don't want to learn this game on such an tiny controller.

Get the cheap Kagura from Ransai then. The small controllers will only help you in reading, but when you goto a big controller it will be different.
