OK so lemme give you some background, I've been playing DDR since grade 10, started on the 5th mix. my buddy saw it at the university of calgary and we found a machine at our locate theatre. i was sceptical at first, i didnt think i was going to like it. so we stumbled throug the first song, stepping on the arrow and then stepping back on the center square.
i was immeadiately addicted. i just had to dance.
over time my skill improved but my buddy decided he didnt like it. i stepped on. i got better, faster. honing my skills. one day i kinda realized that people we're watching me when i was dancing. now im a really shy guy but when i realized it, i was like - sweet people are diggin this. eventually i got to where i could do spins and stuff which for me i think is ok, seeing as how im 270 lbs prolly more. it makes me feel good and i get such a work out so its all good.
anyways back to the whole reason of this.
i've been playing DDR since '99 i think, failry consistently recently i came back after a few months off - i got waylaid by owing money to a buncha people lol. so i do my fav songs for a warm up and i do fine, i can tell im rusty but it'll come back to me. feeling bold i go for the double-pad action. my quads were so tight, but i must step on. about half way through the song, i forgot the title, but my legs must have been too tired or my shoes to slippery cuz the next thing i know im on my buttocks. i got up and finished the song. turned around and said "never fell down before." from what i heard no one laughed which was good. and i didnt even feel embarassed. i finished the last song and then the embarassment hit me and i left, i was so "out of DDR form" as my friend put it.
so i was wondering has anyone else fell down on the pad before? |

i never thought it would happen to me but i once tripped over BEFORE the song. me and a friend were about to start max300 and right before the first arrow, i suddenly fell over the side. i guess my feet were elsewhere from whre i thought. anyways, i got up and bowed to the ppl who were watching and they clapped and i felt a little dumb cause my brother was laughing but i kept going and eventually finished the song. i got off, put another coin in the line, and waited while laughing at myself.
really, the point of my story is youre the only one who'll remember. no one else really remembers until theyre reminded. i forgot my little story until you reminded me. so yeah, thats about it. _________________

I had occasions where I almost would lose my balance and tip too far down sideways...I guess that's what I get for not learning how to cross-step.
I used to trip a couple of months back, I would be playing, and my left or right foor, depending what pad I am on, would hit off the platform rather than the arrow.
I just have this problem with doubles now. |

I guess I have 2.. one from when I first started and one not to long ago.
First:
When I first started I cna tell ya, i was a nervous wreck. Are they watchign me? I better not screw up come on, its light, the easaiest, it can't be too hard. Crap I screwed up. *sweat* Then came that day that changed all that. I think I was playign with my gf (who's really good apparently) on Sakura. I had no idea how fast that song went. So I decided to umm... show off... standard style >.< so the aroows kept comming and I kept missing so in frustration I just started to, literally, tap dance on that thing. well.... next thing you know i fell over backwards, landed on the bar.. somehow manage to grab on it before face planting myself onto the carpet that the DDr machine was sitting on. Lesson? Tie your shoe laces. So yea.. now even if i screw up on a song.... completely... lol... no embaressement here.
Recent:
Lets put it this way. I never learned my lesson to tie my shoelaces.. or at least tie them tight enough. Luckily it was at the end of the song. I did reasonably well, not as well as I wanted. So atthe very end of the song i put my legs together to make a 90 degree turn off the pad. (i just had to show off eh?) I planned to jump off the pad one foot after another. Much to my dismay.. the foot i decided to lift first was the the shoe who's shoelaces were trapped underneth my other foot.. splat.... idk if this counts for it technically is atthe end of the song.. and not during.. heh...yea... i'm gonna go buy velco shoes now... _________________

LOL funny stories to imagine
I almost fell yesterday, but I was playing like c-r-a-p +++. It was extra bad because I had been talking to a girl that I met while waiting for the next free game, heh. I was playing A Heavy (on which I finally can get an A, as a side note ) and right at that last big run I missteped and stumbled hardcore and gracefully (lol note sarcasm) regained my footing, barely managing to complete the song.
Nothing more embarassing than looking like even more of a fool while you already are inherently looking fairly ridiculous (jumping around like a maniac on a lighted pad to j-pop = fairly ridiculous in my book lol).
good times. |

Oh... wow. lol When I first started playing (back in the day where 3rd mix Korean was the new thing), I used to fall off the pad a lot. Never fell on my butt.. just.. nearly broke my ankle. lol Go me! x3
These days... I miraculously never trip..... even though my shoe laces come untied while playing and tend to some how get caught on the pad itself. o.O
However, I have almost fainted from over exhertion. ^ ^; Gotta love those "Must.. pass.. ________... song" moments. lol _________________

1. Playing CSFILSM before I learned how to crossovers. My legs just got tangled up and I ended up falling on my 455...good thing I was at home or that would have hurt.
2. Falling off the mat during the gallops in Tsugaru. I had a couple people watching me and my first thought wasn't OMG I might have seriously messed up my ankle, it was OMG I'm going to fail that song. So I get up as fast as I can and finish the song and got a B...ironically, it was the first time I had passed the song.
3. During the final run in EotC. I didn't trip, my legs just gave out midway _________________

The day I got Max2 on my ps2 I played way too much, and my legs didnt just give out, I actually passed out.
And I have this friend who plays on standard, and he constantly looks like he's about to fall over, but he hasnt yet. _________________

I fell once, didn't fell embaressed at all. Only time i feel embaressed is when someone is TRYING to make me feel uncomfortable and i give them a look like i do, but i really don't. It's kind of like when you were in 4th grade and someone askes you if you like a girl, and you don't, and they say " YOUR BLUSHING" or something like that.... It's hard to explain.
But anyway, i played max 300 on 1.5 on accident, tripped because i miss read a arrow, and tried to correct it before i hit the pad. _________________

I've never fallen before but I've lost my balance before and almost have fallen when playing on doubles. I play nothing but heavy and challenge songs by the way.
Close Calls:
Exotic Ethnic Doubles
Naoki Neo Oni(one time I almost ran completely off of the pad, that's why I now run my hand across the bottom of both shoes before a song starts.) |
