Well, I knew you bought one of those contraptions, but last I remember you were having just a horrible time trying to get it to work, which was why I excluded it. 
Is it really reliable? A few of the user reviews of the Datel MaxDrive have had people saying that they borked the file copy process and ended up tanking a memory card (which is just dumb).

If you use it exactly right, yes, it's pretty good.
If you're pressing random buttons on the program, it'll crash, and you might lose the card. It's not dummy-proof, that's for sure. |

Try this, when it asks to retry, press X, then yank your pads really quickly.
I used to have to do this with my PS1 because my pads were drawing too much power.
Worked for me.

you can't by any chance use a DexDrive to load a song from your computer onto a DDR game?
and you can load a song from MAX2 onto Extreme, right?

Considering that DDR doesn't store songs on the memory card, your answers are obviously "No".

Is it the same for a JPN Playstation 2? Also, are controllers compatible with a JPN Playstation 2?

| You should be fine. In general, PS2 hardware is not region coded. Your memory cards, controllers, dance pads, whatever should work on any PS2 from any region. |
