Added/clarified a bunch of information concerning interfacing hardware for PSX/PS2/Xbox and how to fetch/post edit data for the relevant DDR games.

None of the PS2 solutions on the market currently support PS1 saves.

Incorrect. The EMS memory card adaptor supports both PS1 and PS2 saves/cards. E4.gif

The catch is that you have to have the damn thing plugged into the PS2 along with the memory card and the computer-to-converter wire connected to transfer anything. Also, it has files in a propriety file system. Fortunately, .PS1 and .MCS files are the same. (.PSS and .MC are the same too) You just need to rename the extension. There is also a PS2 save converter to convert your PS2 files for others to use. It won't convert them back to the propriety format of the EMS PS2 saves though. frown.gif

I finally figured out how to use it without much trouble. There are no clear instructions on how to use it anywhere.
1. Make sure the computer-to-converter wire is plugged into the parallel/USB port (there are different versions)
2. With the PS2 off, plug in the adaptor in one of the memory card slots. It might be a snug fit.
3. Insert the PS1/PS2 card into the adaptor. Make sure the switch on top is set to PS2
4. Turn on the PS2
5. Open the PS2Linker program. (found here)
6. When the green light over "PS2/ADAPTOR" is lit, plug in the small end of the computer-to-converter wire.
7. Click on OPEN/CATALOG, then click on PS1/PS2 card to view the contents of the card.
8. When you're finished, click on Exit, and shut off the PS2. Then remove the adaptor.

Well, I knew you bought one of those contraptions, but last I remember you were having just a horrible time trying to get it to work, which was why I excluded it. E10.gif

Is it really reliable? A few of the user reviews of the Datel MaxDrive have had people saying that they borked the file copy process and ended up tanking a memory card (which is just dumb).

If you use it exactly right, yes, it's pretty good.

If you're pressing random buttons on the program, it'll crash, and you might lose the card. It's not dummy-proof, that's for sure.

Please read cutriss's FAQ about ARCADE memory card slots in the ARCADE section of this website.

Hell - I'll go one better - This is the VERY first thing I say in the FAQ in *this* forum.

Time for a smackdown.

You know...this is very, *very* easy. You can start by reading the FAQ in the first post.

OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...

This thread is entirely for discussion about issues/problems/questions about using a memory card with the DDR series.

If you are reading this thread for information about memory card features related to use with Arcade Machines, such as Arcade Link, Paint Arrows, Custom Nonstop Order, Internet Ranking, etc. etc., read this thread in DDR Arcade Games first.
Is it *REALLY* that hard to understand? It's the second paragraph!!! And it's the boldfaced one!

Please ask this in the Arcade Memory Card FAQ thread, since that's the FAQ it's related to.

I'm having a very weird problem. I did NOT turn it off when it was saving. And the data is NOT corrupted (according to the ps2 browser). Now for my proablem. My MAX 2 says "FAILED LOADING SYSTEM DATA" when it tries to load my system data. I looked in my mc to see if the data is corrupted, but it's not. Even when I saving in the options menu, it said "OVERWRITE?". Which means it knows the data exists right? Then how come it cannot load the data?
PS I didnt know it should always be left in stand by mode. I always turn mine off. But I turn it off by holding the power button in the front then I turn off the back.

Try this, when it asks to retry, press X, then yank your pads really quickly.
I used to have to do this with my PS1 because my pads were drawing too much power.

Worked for me.

you can't by any chance use a DexDrive to load a song from your computer onto a DDR game?

and you can load a song from MAX2 onto Extreme, right?

Considering that DDR doesn't store songs on the memory card, your answers are obviously "No".

"Q: I want to import a Bemani game. Do I need a separate memory card to store my save data?
A: No. PS1 and PS2 software is not region-locked to specific memory cards. You can have Japanese, US, and EU saves all on the same PS1 card, PS2 card, or HDD. Xbox storage devices (including the hard disk) are also region-agnostic. "

Is it the same for a JPN Playstation 2? Also, are controllers compatible with a JPN Playstation 2?

You should be fine. In general, PS2 hardware is not region coded. Your memory cards, controllers, dance pads, whatever should work on any PS2 from any region.
