We never discovered that before because the few people that do play DDR around here play on Heavy, and if you pick Heavy it stays on whatever speed thing it's already on and doesn't give you the option to change it. Yey for me. Long story in a nutshell, dumb people shouldn't be allowed to take drinks into the arcade because they always seem to spill on the pads. | I think it happens if you start on a different difficulty, not just Beginner. I had heard it was only available on Standard, so I dunno. _________________

I was under the impression you had to select a different difficulty in the opening screens where you're selecting Mode and Difficulty after putting in your credits. _________________

Beginner, standard and ONI are the difficulties that you can change the settings on. I heard that you can only change it on the "Select Difficulty screen", not any other screen. _________________

There are only seven pages, for pete's sake. It won't take you long. dark_teferi wrote: | ok, lemme get thsi straight.

isnt that illegal? | Yes, but Konami probably won't ever do anything about it, since the game's not supposed to be over here anyway. _________________

I e-mailed the seller of that auction back when it was up, trying to find out why White Lovers was considered offensive (I know the answer, but I wanted to see if I could find out the reasoning so that I could challenge it). I was told that it was made at the request of a "large well-known national corporation", so they really didn't know.
My best guesses are that (provided it's legit information) it's either Walmart or Chuck E. Cheese. Walmart already has a few arcades with DDR (and even one with a Pop'n!), but if they decided that they were gonna roll this out nationwide (trying to cash in on the dancing machine craze), they'd probably want to do something like this.
And I'm not sure if I consider Chuck E. Cheese a "large well-known national corporation". _________________

We have a thred talking about it.
I really doubt this is an EXTREME hack, so i dont think its safe to call it #4 yet. The whole machine is fake. GOLD PADS??! _________________

And there's also the argument that Konami made the game import-friendly so that it could be imported "without their knowledge".
The game (Extreme Arcade) may not be licensed for sale/distribution outside of Japan, but you're kidding yourself if you think Konami doesn't know. _________________

Actually, blame Andamiro's USA operation and their suit against KoA that caused KoA to stop at DDR USA....it's the same reason why you don't see domestic-release home versions of PIU.
I also have a pet theory that, despite DDR losing popularity in Japan, KCET released DDR's 6, 7, and 8 because they unofficially knew that the USA market would buy the machines the Japanese market wouldn't. _________________

dark_teferi wrote: | well i dont understand why they wouldnt release the arcade versions in the us, but they release the home versions... | Because at the time of the rise of DDR, everyone was forecasting doom and gloom about the arcade industry in the US. None of the arcade ops in the US wanted to buy a machine that didn't mesh with the long-going trend of arcade gaming - fighters and shooters.
Also, licensing the music over here would have been a nightmarish ordeal compared to Japan. EmiOfBrie wrote: | Actually, blame Andamiro's USA operation and their suit against KoA that caused KoA to stop at DDR USA....it's the same reason why you don't see domestic-release home versions of PIU. | I pretty well debunked this a while back, as Konami won the suits with extreme prejudice. EmiOfBrie wrote: | I also have a pet theory that, despite DDR losing popularity in Japan, KCET released DDR's 6, 7, and 8 because they unofficially knew that the USA market would buy the machines the Japanese market wouldn't. | Yeah, I think a lot of people see it that way.
By "letting" the machines wander over here, Konami weasels its way out of a pile of international licensing fees for the music.
This is why Konami will never officially acknowledge any US DDR arcade games other than USA Mix - Acknowledging their existence indicates willful negligence of their contract violations. _________________
