Yes, in Stepmania the assist click is on the 2nd page of song options.
By "alternate feet", I mean keep going left-right-left-right... unless you're hitting the same arrow twice in a row, you general don't want to use the same foot twice in a row... however, some songs pretty much force you to do so.
As for specific songs, I'm not sure what mix you're using, but your best bet is to select something with a small radar... don't necessarily go by the foot rating, since they can be misleading sometimes. |

Actually a lot of Standard songs are good for practicing. Well, probably the ones that are not 10 footers and a few others (which I can't think of at this time).
b4u
d2r
break down
dive
dream a dream
rythm and police
dynamite rave -sota mix-
dark black forest
healing vision
cutie chaser -morning mix-
1998
.... and so on
Usually ones that are between 100 and 160/170 are good. I do'nt know if speed mods are being used or anything else. I'd probably go with the 160 mark though. Generally ones between those ranges aren't too slow or too fast. So, reading them shouldn't be a problem, and are good for practicing. As for songs like paranoias, they are little more difficult, but no where close to the songs like the Maxes on Standard.

Thanks for the list, i probably have some of those, i think i'll get used to Standard mode pretty soon, played some last night and got the hang of it quicker than i thought, got some Cs and Bs anyways, i think i'll play on Standard most of the time from now on, until i go to the next difficulty, which probably won't be for a long time, if ever |

Another thing that would help, while ur practicing standard, find a friend or another player that can pass the songs that you're working on. I learned how to play both on standard and on heavy that way. Also I highly recommend mastering gallops and cross overs before you move onto heavy. I didn't, and it really hurt my gameplay. I had to take a step back and learn how to do them. Cow girl has a lot of gallops in it on heavy, (not sure on standard) if you can get another player to help you out, try it a few times as a last song, eventually you'll get the hang of it.
Cross overs take a lot more time to learn. One of the hardest things about them is, once you get the hang of it, determining when to use them. On areas of some songs, a cross over can get you in trouble, but getting your feet out of position and forcing you to make an awkward move to keep your balance.
However, once you get the hang of cross overs, you'll find that it will help you last longer, stamina wise. Using cross overs usually is less tiring.
Good luck and keep at it |

Hey i got a question for any other double players out there.
On Rythm and Police doubles, there is this part kinda early in the song where its gallops going from the left pad to the right bad. I found i had to do cross overs while galloping to get by it, I usually end up getting greats/goods doing this, ...
has anyone found another way which works easier? (i also tripped myself once doing it that way and landed on the pad)
[i think thats the only song in the game with gallops like that, not sure though]
--Your thoughts much appreciated, thanks, |

Slayer: maybe the problem you're having is because the R&P gallops are a 16th earlier than most gallops?
Marc: Do you think post-whoring is going to impress anyone? |

Just for fun, I tried out Tsugaru on standard, and you know those gallops in the middle? Well those hung me up...
However, I went into training mode, and figured out how to get past that section. So now I have a good idea of how to gallop!
Could this be the start of a new era of progression?! _________________

Haha one bit in the song i can do right (ie without half falling over). I just twist my body to the right and use one foot after the other (crossover) to get from one side of the pad to the other. If timing isn't your problem then just make sure you turn your whole lower body....that could be rather uncomfortable otherwise and no wonder you trip So in the end it should feel like you're skipping forwards while looking sideways dunno if that's much help but.... _________________

well now i am at the stage of AAing most 7 and 8 footers.. and got Japan down to 2 goods....(heavy) i skipped from light to heavy after about a month on light i started playing Dynamite Rave SOTA mix on 2x light in training mode then i could do most 5-6 footers on heavy..
now i am having trouble with consistently passing Max300 and trying to get better than As on the 9 footers.
how do you take care of the repeated steps on one arrow in the song CSFIL:SM without the bar? |

I need tips on how to improve my foot speed. Basicly, my problem is the end run on LoM heavy. I can do the run in the arcade, but only when I use the bar. However, my home pad doesnt exactly have that So I need to make my feet move slightly faster (although my first guess would be to get new shoes, since both pairs I own are steel-toed) _________________

Drop Out on shuffle. Add sudden for that extra difficulty.

I don't think you can force learning jackhammer steps. Just do a bunch of other stuff and then come back to it in like a week or something. I was so sick of jackhammer steps that I avoided songs with them for a week or two. Then I came back to them, after advancing in a bunch of other areas, and it was really easy. |
