|
|
So... why do the majority of people I see these days do nothing but sit around and complain about Maximizer? I agree that it's pathetic that the song that should have made "older players very happy" (quote: the pre-release interview with that Konami guy who's hypothetically responsable for bringing DDR over here) is an 8 foot on Heavy and it's Mission Mode Boss step is definitely not up to par with its claims of being the next best Max. It's a dissapointment to all of us that were looking for a 3rd-generation Max or Paranoia (like a step beyond Max. (period) and Paranoia ~Respect~) that could possibly kill us if we seriously attacked it.
But it's really not a bad song. Let's face it... it's a good, fun-sounding song with a good step. The Heavy step is pretty fun, and the Boss step is awesome, 10 foot or not. IMHO the Boss step SHOULD be a 10 footer, because it's really a fairly strong 9 footer with those !@#$ 16th notes. It's been said before, I know, but that makes for the fastest steps in all of DDR. It's definitely harder than Bag or Sakura, and as it's been said in every "what should be a 10-footer" post, 10s are called 10 feet because of their aspect of being a step more extreme than their 9-foot counterparts. Be it the raw speed (or lack thereof), psychotic death runs, logic-defying chaos, or mind-boggling stop-and-go tempo changes, the 10 footers have SOMETHING that sets them on a level above the rest. Maximizer is like that... a full run of the fastest steps ever. Your feet fly at 760 steps per minute in that song, as opposed to LOM's 666, Unlimited's 640, or PSM's 580. And let me tell you something... that's freakin fast. Maybe it's just a stop-and-go pattern as opposed to a solid run, but it took more than a few tries to get that one going when I danced to it.
About the whole "it's not a Max!" issue... I say shut up and deal with it. What makes a song a Max, you ask? Konami says so. That's it. It's not how it sounds, how fast it is, or how hard the step is, it's just that Konami said so. Just putting "Max" somewhere in the title doesn't make it a Max (hense Paranoia Max or Maximum Overdrive not being Maxes). I agree that it sounds nothing like an actual Max, but it has the Max theme of pushing the DDR speed limits to limit. Some people say it's not intense enough, but I disagree. Sure, most of it has the Happy Hardcore feel to rival Waka Laka, but it definitely get an intense feel later on in the song (specifically measure 56 to the end, where the 8th note runs start and are closely followed by that absolutely insane 16th note run to freeze pattern). There's a definite change in tone at that point, and it has enough kick to it to get your adrenaline pumping.
So yeah... I'm done raving now. Maximizer's Boss step has become of one of my favorites, and I play it every time Extreme enters my PS2. So... tell me what you guys think and what your (collective) issue is. _________________

It is a cool song, but I wish there were more 16th steps to give me a challenge. I can get the 2 sets of them with no trouble at all.
What do you mean by "boss step"? |

I honest to god enjoy the 'boss' steps. I like the song. Yes, it's a Max because Konami said so. Is it a *remix* of Max 300? No. I have yet to play the heavy steps (I DO have a life, so I have yet to unlock it.), but I'm sure they'll annoy me - my honest opinion is that Konami did it this way so that people wouldn't doggy about them making another Sakura, and all the whining that came along with it as to whether it's a ten or not.... therefore boss steps that go unrated.
Eh. Basic run-down:
The Song: Awesome. Love it. +
The Heavy Steps: No matter what they are, they should be either the standard steps are non-existant. -
The Boss Steps: Perfect. Love 'em. But they should just be the heavy steps. 2/3 +, 1/3 - _________________

I also like it, but it would be awesome if they slowed it down and then work its way up faster but ten the song would have to be longer... _________________

My opinion exactly.
Ten footer on Boss? Yeah right, I'm a try or two from beating it, and I haven't beaten any 10s besides Sakura/bag _________________

Oh, that reminds me. I don't care if it or Sakura is a 10 foot or not... but Maximizer is probably harder than Sakura. For whatever that's worth. _________________

It does have the trappings of a MAX song. That semi-climatic intro, the pure funness of the steps, even if they're not that hard, that "freeze jump to stop" in the middle, and the hella-long run at the end.
Anyone who says those boss steps are not 10-footers is obviously using a D-Pad, because of the misplacement during the freeze arrows if your choreography is off. As for the speed issue, let's face it. Too many people were complaining that "10 footers are only WAY fast, or WAY slow" (Thanks for spoiling it for those of us who LIKE those).
Sakura is faster tempoed, but Maximizer is more misdirectional, and ultimately, faster-paced. Though it doesn't quite push as much voltage as, say Outer Limits (which IMHO, is harder than Sak or bag anyways). So it's an "easy 10", but a 10 IMHO nevertheless. Just not to the degree we were really looking for (Something to take our "we've played PSM/TloM for 2 years now, and are looking to push to... about that hard still).
Packing voltage in a 190 BPM stage was a good idea, and should have been exploited in it's stepset a little more. Maybe some triplets like that in the middle. The end should play (IMHO) kinda like the way "Highs Off U" and "true... (radio edit)" have those 3x 1/16-notes during their runs... Sticking some of that in the end, first every 8 beats, then every 4 beats, and maybe then a measure or two solid-packed at the end (during the part that looks like the "Afronova" pivot, you know...). THAT woulda done it. |

Hmm, who cares? Just play the damn song and enjoy it. Edit steps for it if you think it's too easy, it has the potential to be harder than any previous max... I've edited it and made it an effective (11). _________________

Sorry, I haven't kept up on all the discussion, but a few people have been claiming that Konami said it was a max, but I can't find it anywhere (although I haven't gone through each page of the extremely large Extreme thread). Does anyone know who said it was a max and what where their exact words?
I have a hard time believing it is a max, it is just a little too easy to be a max, but if I see it in writing, then I have no choice to believe it. But all I have heard so far is bunches of people saying, "Konami said so" with no actual quote to follow it up. |
sigard and dancer X I believe have both said that (according to the higher ups that they work under) Maximizer is a "Max-type song". both of these people are confirmed to work for konami, so I'd take what they say seriously. |

IT HAS THE FASTEST NON GALLOP STEPS IN THE GAME NOT ALL OF WHICH ARE JACKHAMMERS |

Genom Screams is a 10. It isn't way fast, it isn't way slow, it doesn't have much Stread. not enough Voltorb. Not enough anything.
What is it? a god damn hard doubles step pattern! !@#$ this song! We need more stuff like this for doubles that has patterns that are slow paced and can be done without double stepping but insanely hard to do like Genom Screams . Plus Genom needed harder spin arounds during those freeze arrows . |
