Just a random (semi-related) question:

If someone were to actually make a real "arcade style" pad, how much would you be willing to pay for it? I mean, all the home metal pads on the market use metal contacts, usually two pieces of sheet metal... it just doesn't feel right. I'm talking about if someone made a pad with a hollow space under the arrow, and 4 pressure sensors/brackets per panel, how much would you pay? Also assuming no lights tongue.gif.

Oddly enough, you can pick up a Solo platform for the low, low price of $380.00 at Channelbeat. Granted, it is a Solo platform - which have had a reputation for being a little spotty, but still - arcade perfect. (To complete the package, you can also pick up a Solo 2k or Bass Mix cabinet as well (sans pad) for the same price.)

A little rewiring, and voila! Arcade perfect homepad goodness.

Well, the solo pads have only two sensors per arrow instead of four... and the cabinets they're selling for cheap are ones they gutted the digital I/O board out of so they could make 1st/2nd to 7th or 8th upgrades. So, would you really want a cabinet without the hardware? I don't think so...

Also, they don't have that written on CB anymre, and they don't write that it's missing the amp anymore. Not having an amp would make it kinda useless, no? Unless they actually ARE selling a full working cabinet for that cheap... hmmmmm......... Eh, shipping would be a bitch anyway.

EDIT: Oh, and still, anyone have an answer to my question E1.gif?

He was only talking about buying the pad, not an entire cabinet.

The placement/structure of the sensors on the Solo pads seems to be more durable and require less maintenance than the standard DDR pads, since they're suspended underneath the center of the arrow instead of along the edges.

What? No! The sensor system that's in it is far superior to the RO/CF system. Interfacing on the other hand, sure, if you think the Solo pad is worth it. I guess it's okay, but I really don't care for 6-panel pads myself.

Really? I've never been inside one, but I just heard that they are less sensitive. How are the brackets and such set up?

I couldn't tell you offhand, but they're essentially side-by-side in the center, as I recall reading (Brian took one apart several months back). If I remember right, the bracket is different too, and doesn't have the same kludgy spacer system that the traditional brackets have.

I think the "Solo is less sensitive" thing just comes from people saying "It only has two sensors - that's no good." But those two sensors are used farm more effectively.

Upon seeing that pad, I believe it is time for a change of pants.

Solo pads are great imo.. They arn't the best for freezes, but otherwise they are fine. The used pads from channel beat, I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.
