i thought a thread like this would be interesting. i talked to some of my friends who play ddr and half of them said it should be a sport if it isn't already. the other half said it was an athletic video game.

personally, i think ddr is a video game, not a sport. i have my reasons:

-just like any other video game, you are guided by a screen.
-just like any other video game, you hit buttons on a controller.
-it may be athletic, but there are no real rules.
-you don't pay for 5 minutes playing any other sport
-if it was a sport, it'd have the smallest field/court/wtf ever

but that's my opinion. no one cares for my opinion. someone else post theirs. please.

A sport?? As if. The only thing that might qualify DDR as a sport is the physical activity.

i'd consider it a sport to a certain extent.
-it takes a lot of practice to get good at; it isnt just "pick up and play"
-its physical activity
but in the end its basically just a video game.
-actions are guided by a screen
-playing time is short

You guys are too hung up on what is a traditional sport: running around on a field with a ball.

Anything that is competitive can be a sport.

Who knows nowadays what a sport is?

Sure DDR ain't running around with a team on a playing field, but it requires just as much physical extertion. It shouldn't be called a traditional sport yes, but don't block it out as a sport entirely.

And as I mentioned up.gif , DDR is an event in the sport of video games.
