it doesn't really matter
its an option in the game
i'm going to exploit it
if it wasn't meant to be used..they would not have put it in
simple as that _________________

If people do it because they can't beat the song on 1x then I lose respect for them. However, if they are learning to stealth the song... by all means use speed mods. |

i agree. also, not using speed mods usually makes most songs look harder, because the arrows are closer.
EDIT: and if you use speed mods to learn bag, like me. i started on 3x, and i'll hopefully get it down to 1x flat.

umm...that makes no sense, because speed mods don't speed up the actual song, just how quickly the arrows move up the screen. sure, 8x speed max300 isn't going to lose u respect, but it's not godly faster or anything, you just gotta know the song really well |
Then post a video of you doing it. All you gotta do is know the song really well, right? _________________

Both aren't bad, I personally never used them except for one song (had to suck up my pride, I'm utterly determined to pass a certain song...). I like to view it as a handicap, but that's just my opinion.
Speed mods are used to show off when people begin to play at 8x and such, but around here, the majority of the DDR players play either at 1.5x or 2x.
Now what I want to see is a mod that physically speeds up the song, therefore speeding up the steps and actually making the timing different. (For those who never played it, TechnoMotion has a similar mod called "Bus").

They do have hacked DDR Extreme machines where you can speed up the tempo. Also we have had that in Stepmania for awhile. |

Yes. All you gotta do is know the song really well. Did I say that I knew the song really well? No, I don't think so. But you can't tell me that there is absolutely no one out there who has completely memorized Max 300 on heavy. Out of the so many frikin' ppl that play DDR. All someone has to do is know it step by step, and speed mods dont even really mean anything other than maybe making it look like u can read arrows that fast. |

I think that people use speed mods for 2 reasons:
1. PA and score modification
2. Easier to read
3. Habitual
I don't use speed mods anymore. My PA sucks regardless--so I play 1x. I don't care about arrow clarity, I like a little challange now and then. Habitual? Well... I'm too lazy to go into the stupid menu and press the arrows and the buttons...
is soooo much easier to do |

It doesnt really matter to me but speed mods I think help you to learn a difficult song and later once you have learned it you wont need to use speed mods. _________________

They do give you an interesting glimpse into the step pattern, but they don't contribute much to learning how to play x1 with no solo arrows. The real trick to playing x1 with no solo arrows is to almost ignore the arrows and just listen to the music. |
