Yea, I have a question, wasn't entirely sure where it'd go so I stuck it here.
What's a good measure of skill that I could use to see if I'm good enough to participate in local tournaments? As of now I've been playing for about 8 months, I can usually score a C or so on most heavy songs, and at one point or another I've beaten every song in DDRMax2 on heavy except for So Deep and Max.
Also, how exactly do song selections for tournaments work? |

All depends on how good the local players are. Around here, unless you can SDG everything, you're not gonna get too far.
In general, the answers to all your questions can be found by simply going to the next tournament in your area and watching. |

Eh, well in that case I'd better keep practicing. I don't know if it's me or my crappy pads, but there are a lot of notes that I should be able to hit but don't. |

some people might consider it sandbagging, but you could enter the standard division (if there is one). they tend to be more fun and the competition is a bit more on your level, I think. |

I've got to agree with Syncognition. If you think the top level of the tournament is too much for you, you may want to drop down to a slightly easier tourney.
When I was just starting to SDG stuff, I thought about entering the Heavy division of a tournament, but when I watched the other people practicing and saw them AAA'ing nearly everything they played, I decided to back off and enter the Standard division.
Unfortunately, lots of people followed my lead and I still got beat, but that's the way it goes sometimes. _________________

Honestly, I don't like standard mode. I find it boring, and I still miss really easy notes. I think it might have something to do with my pads or something. Actually, I'm thinking of possibly hosting my own tournament with people I know, I can keep up with most of them. Probably once I get my new pads. |

Lots of arcades take crap care of their pads. Go and play somewhere with reputedly good pads and see how you do.
Bad pads kill your preformance.

I suggest you play harder standard/easier heavy songs untill you are able to full combo them, then start working on your PA from there. This will definately improve you as a DDR player in general, and prepare you for tournaments in the future.
If you can't full combo songs at all though, then I doubt your ready for that tournament regardless of the skill level of the players in your area. |

Don't feel too bad if you do end up dropping a difficulty. I can A and AA most heavy songs and I STILL would not be able to enter the heavy division in my area and do very well. There are DDR GODS here. I'd get smoked. So if I did enter a tourny any time soon, I'd probably drop a level. But then again, seeing where you rank among other players might be worth being in the heavy division. _________________
