delete stuff

you guys have a lot of posts and its slowing the site down or atleast on my computer it is.

so maybe you should delete some old topics to make it faster.

at another forum i go to its the exact same setup as this one and stuff it was mondo slow and then they deleted a bunch of stuff and it was really fast... i don't know maybe you all could do the same thing?

Destroying part of the most valuable section of this site (the forums) is not something that the staff here are terribly interested in doing.

For what it's worth: things are reasonably snappy over here.

We do delete some of the older stuff. But not stuff that's that recent, because we like to have it around.

Yeah, it's probably just your computer. My internet connection works awesome and loads these pages quickly.

Perhaps it's your computer or internet connection that's being the slow poke.

Yeah, I was just about to post this same exact suggestion. Maybe something similar to what Gamefaqs has, in that posts that don't have any posts posted(I need a thesaures) for 12(this is for the real active threads though) days, it gets purged.

Just a thought.

I just believe that the most oldest post that should remain on the forums here would have to be ONE YEAR. Therefore, since '03 was last year because currently it is '04...I agree with what they are doing now.

i think what theyre tring to say is like delete the OLD posts. theres like a hundred something PAGES in ddr chit chat alone. maybe deleting the old posts that got locked and no one even reads anymore. I, for example, only check the first two pages of any forum. ppl generally only check the last pages when they look for something or because theyre new and want to look around. i wouldnt waste an hour just to see if anything interesting is in the middle pages. by hour i mean loading the pages(dial-up).

I just think that threads that are stupid and dumb that are locked should remain there for one month at the most, then deleted. The reason it should stay up there is mods give a reason to why they did something, in this case why they locked it. Therefore, that person and other people can see what they shouldn't do.

Then it should be deleted.

Yes, but typically threads that need to be locked are only a post or two long... that doesn't use an awful lot of bandwidth.
