I have an Ignition 2.0, it's only about 2 weeks old and already the back button is getting sort of messed up. Sometimes it doesn't register steps in the good part, the good part being the half closest to the center of the pad. Stepping on the other half of the button doesn't work. Sometimes the plastic makes a weird noise so I'm not sure if it's bending awkwardly or what.

If anyone knows a way to improve the condition of the pad, and/or prevent further damage, please respond!

It sounds like your pad is ghost stepping and the sensors are smashed i would try to take out the insert and replace it with a cut to size piece of plywood or keep the insert in and put a chair mat in above it if you can fit it.

Can someone help me???

My BuyNshop Dx Pad has rips in the inside(where they put the foam), how do I fix it
close the rip as tight as you can and apply duck tape over it as smooth as possible. Hope it works for you.

Yep - this is a lo-o-ong thread. I've read a good 20 pages or so, but haven't seen anyone mention... I mean, it's been a good year and a half or so since this thread was started, so - what I'm wondering is, how well have your DX Ignition pads stood up to the test of time?
I'm a new player and looking into buying a good new Ignition pad. My $13 pad crapped out on me after two days and I need a replacement.
Listen: I am a cheap guy. This is very important. I'm covering all the bills while my girlfriend finishes her last semester of college, so things are tight.
Now: LevelSix.com is selling their 3.1 Deluxe Ignition Pad for $40 plus $7 shipping. There's the BNS DX pad, which ... uh, I don't think I'm going to even consider given the comments in this thread. There's the Red Octane, which is a ridiculous $110 for the Ignition style pad. The CypherGames.com website has been dead as of the past couple of days, so they's out. And I'm NOT considering eBay, because I imagine that individual sellers' return policies are nonexistant.
Anyone who has a LevelSix DX Ignition pad - are you still pleased with it? Let me know - they seem to be the cheapest, have a decent return policy, and they seem to be very well regarded.

DO NOT get the Redoctane pad it stinks and dies out way to quick. But actually i would try the BNS Dx...i have it and it works like a charm on 7's and 8's at least 4 times a week for 1-2 hours at a time with the occasional 9 footer. It is great and for a new player would be good to learn with.

Thanks for being so helpful to everyone E1.gif. The plywood sounds good, but just incase, what exactly is a chair mat?

A chairmat is a plastic mat with spikes on it for carpet for rolling computer chairs. When i suggested trying a chairmat make sure you would get a mat meant for wood....(no spikes on the bottom). Unless you were doing a no slide mod by mounting it on the bottom of your pad. Hoped that helped. You can get them at anywhere from home depot to officemax for about 20 dollars.

I just got a RO Ignition 2.0 pad a couple weeks ago, and one of the buttons is sticking. I'm pretty sure it's the Start button, because everytime I try to start a song it immediately resets the game to the menu screen. It's like the button is being repeatedly tapped. I tried messing around a little with the control box, but I don't want to do anything more without some guidance. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Can we please get my soft pad FAQ linked in the first post?

http://www.cs.rochester.edu/~balazer/ddr_soft_pad_faq/

I think my FAQ subsumes all of the information in the first post, and contains a lot more well organized information.

I'll also consider adding to the FAQ if people would give me some feedback. I'm especially looking for info about specific pads and vendors.

Well if it is still in warranty get anew one....or i would cut it open to work on it. Because it sounds like you have a hole in the foam layer in between circuits. Or it is just disentegrated or something in that area.

http://www.ddr-pad-fix.tk/ would be very helpful. Good luck

I was wondering, what is the best way to transport a Ignition Pad, either folded or unfolded, so that it can be shielded from the elements (i.e.: rain and snow). What I used to do was use garbage bags bound with duct tape. Is there a better way?

I'd say unfolded unless you fold it perfectly how it was when you got it but i wouldn't take the chance. You could use duct tape and garbage bags or pay 10 dollars for a carrying case at Redoctane.com

Hope that helped

Alright... So I opened it up to see if the foam was worn down, and while it was in a few places, it still isn't the source of the problem. I tried putting a piece of cardboard temporarily between the plasctic and foam layers, and it still reset the game every time I tried a song. I considered just cutting the black path to the Start button altogether, but I think the problem is in the control box circuitry. I already read through the guide that covers the circuit board, but seeing as how my problem is the exact opposite, I don't really know how to fix it.

Are you positive it is Only the start button...it could be the select too. But i would check the wiring and make sure you doon't have any fraying or any cuts in the wire. From there i don't know too much. Sorry man

I just wanted to make a comment on the Red Octane vs. BNS pad question that I haven't seen addressed here. The surface material and feel of the two pads are VERY different. The Red Octane is like nylon and the BNS is like puffy vinyl. After playing on a Red Octane for quite a long time, I found the BNS vinyl to be a real pain, my socks stick and don't slide as easily. Maybe if you use a BNS and then try a Red Octane, you might find it doesn't have as much cushion. Has anyone else gone through this, and if so do you eventually stop noticing the difference? At any rate, I think it is definitely something to consider--anyone saying BNS and Red Octane is ignoring a major difference.

Yes i have. I started playing DDR on cheap pads. I played about 4 times. I started plying on my friends Redoctane Ignition 2.0 the rest of the time. 4 months later i got my Bns Dx. I love it. It has a slippery service and it is puffier than the Redoctane. While the red octane arrows were rasied but dipped in kindof the Bns Dx sticks up. I got used to it and know use both pads though i prefer the BNS dx anyday.

Well i think i know what your problem is. Your sensor layer inside your pad may have folded over in that area. If you are willing to cut your pad to check. Once you cut it i would suggest following the previously mentioned page.

so basically, the RedOctane Ignition is any other plastic pad modded with foam?

i've seen these mega huge deluxe things with a bar and everything, but they're full-blown hard pads.

Pretty much. Though it is more heavy duty....it has raised arrows, and the insert. It is supposed to have better wiring too. But if you are thinking of buying a soft pad i would suggest looking into the BNS DX XTREME at www.buynshop.com
It is much more reliable

shouldve asked this in my last post, but what about the pads made by GameStop? are those reliable or does nobody know?

i'm starting to think that it's a better idea to just buy 2 hard pads. sounds much more reliable than what i've heard about these soft pads.

Considering the price and who made the pads i wouldn't suggest getting them. If you are wanting to get a soft pad go with buynshop DX Xtreme.
If you want hard pad....that's a whole nother story and i'm not too ood in that topic. It doesn't get discussed here anyways. But you could look into making your own hard pad.

so the best decidion would be to go with buying cheap and then modding, or buying a more sturdy one direct?

Well that's all up to you. If you are gonna mod a soft pad i would get the DPR2 pads and use the plywood mod. All together it might be 30 or 40.

A BNS DX........would be 60 to 70 including shipping.

What difficulty level do you do and what footers(i.e. 7 footers,5 footers etc)
