BTW, I'm at the 4-5 footers on light mode too. It's a tough leap to go from the 4 footers to the 5. I'm finding I can sight read pretty fast but I can't keep up physically. My legs turn to jelly.  |
I hear ya man. But I can almost guarantee this, once you get the hang of five footers your progress will be fast after that. I just progressed onto 7 and 8 footers. I know this isn't the recommendation thread, but try out Afronova if you can, if you learn that five footer, the others should be a breeze. (BTW thats my theory, so no one bash me for it, it worked for me at least.)
Anyway the real reason why I posted.
I used carpet tape to hold my pad in place. Velcro, for your level, would probably work too.

Here's a tip for keeping your pads from sliding apart during Doubles if you've got the pads mounted/tapes/whatever onto a wooden board.
Go to Home Depot/Lowe's/hardware store and buy a latch, the kind you would put on the door of a tool shed or fence that you could put a padlock on. It'll come in two main parts that you can screw in to the board: One part will be a simple hinge with a hole on one end. The hole fits over the second part, which is kind of a metal loop that you can fit a padlock through. Screw one part on each board and arrange them so they line up and latch together and voila--- your two pads are locked in place and won't separate.
I'd attach a product link for what I'm talking about, but I had a really hard time finding one... -_-;;; It'll probably be in the Hardware section near standard hinges.
If you worry about stepping on the latch assembly, don't; I play 8 footers and 9 footers regularly and I haven't stepped on the assembly once.
There is a bit of labor involved, though; you'll need a power drill to screw the latches in to the boards, then you'll probably want a file to smooth out the screws as they'll probably be longer than the thickness of the board you're putting. However, it's a relatively inexpensive and highly effective mod. |

hey i just got these pads off ebay

and after about a week of use, one of the pads up//right arrows and the top right//bottom right buttons r broken and dont respond when i step on them. i read this guide b4 of how to fix a broken soft pad

but i doubt my problem is with the foam. i think the "thin transparent plastic" thingy could b broken sumhow. ripped maybe? well ill have to open my pad up one day to c wats happening but does any1 kno how i would fix it (if i can, im not sure its possible if this is the case) if the plastic thing was ripped? i think this happened to my old soft pads also  |

Hey cat... I think I am getting better. After not playing for a year and playing for 4 days straight it's coming back a bit. =)
But since this is a soft pad thread...
The new ignition is holding up, and I am getting used to it. I think I dig it after all. As long as it keeps up like this. If not, and if I keep getting better it might be time to seriously consider a CF. =)
For the poster directly above me - If the plastic with the connections on it (all the black lines) is ripped or torn, it's game over man, game over...

Cool to hear it's coming back to you. I took last night off and hit the couch to veg. 
I'm getting used to my pad too but it still moves too much. I know you suggested velcro or carpet tape. Is carpet tape just two-sided tape? Isn't that going to stick to my carpet and leave it all gummy? I'm horrible at any of that 'guy stuff'. With the velcro, I would assume it's got tape on the back and I would stick it to the underside of the pad...then the velcro would stick to the carpet. But honestly, that doesn't seem like it would do a whole lot of good. Would it?
I keep hearing about these chair mat mods, but I have no idea where to start. I looked at the mod page, and didn't see the chair mat mod there. But there were tons of more technical ones, what with the wood, and the pounding, and the nails... yikes! Scared me right outta there.

| I got a soft pad from Gamestop about a few weeks ago and a couple days ago, my down arrow doesn't works sometimes. Is there a way I can fix it? |

i've had my Redoctane Ignition pad for about 6 weeks and it's already crapping out on me, giving me the usual bs from a soft pad (ghost/fantom arrows, misses in the middle of a full combo etc)  oh wow never saw that coming

Lemme guess Bojddo711, are you playing lots of Heavy level songs? I checked this thread before buying my BNS DX II but because you can't search it I had no idea they had this problem. Can we please get the first page updated with a list of common problems for each pad? Seriously, this thread would be more useful if it could prevent problems instead of trying to solve them after it's too late. |

Yep - this is a lo-o-ong thread. I've read a good 20 pages or so, but haven't seen anyone mention... I mean, it's been a good year and a half or so since this thread was started, so - what I'm wondering is, how well have your DX Ignition pads stood up to the test of time?
I'm a new player and looking into buying a good new Ignition pad. My $13 pad crapped out on me after two days and I need a replacement.
Listen: I am a cheap guy. This is very important. I'm covering all the bills while my girlfriend finishes her last semester of college, so things are tight.
Now: LevelSix.com is selling their 3.1 Deluxe Ignition Pad for $40 plus $7 shipping. There's the BNS DX pad, which ... uh, I don't think I'm going to even consider given the comments in this thread. There's the Red Octane, which is a ridiculous $110 for the Ignition style pad. The CypherGames.com website has been dead as of the past couple of days, so they's out. And I'm NOT considering eBay, because I imagine that individual sellers' return policies are nonexistant.
Anyone who has a LevelSix DX Ignition pad - are you still pleased with it? Let me know - they seem to be the cheapest, have a decent return policy, and they seem to be very well regarded. |

I have an Ignition 2.0, it's only about 2 weeks old and already the back button is getting sort of messed up. Sometimes it doesn't register steps in the good part, the good part being the half closest to the center of the pad. Stepping on the other half of the button doesn't work. Sometimes the plastic makes a weird noise so I'm not sure if it's bending awkwardly or what.
If anyone knows a way to improve the condition of the pad, and/or prevent further damage, please respond! |

Yea... buying pads off ebay isnt really the best thing to do but.. there arnt very many good pads out there are there?
I have the bns dx extreme pads and i had to cut open the inside of the pads to get to the foam inserts that had been sliding around on the inside.
So i taped them down and taped down all the layers i had to cut through and now they kick butt, i havent had any problems with them since.
Well, if u want to try to fix ur pads, some one posted somthing about them fixing a pad from every thing being broken, i'll repost it for you

The up arrow was sticking, and the down arrow was completely unresponsive. I'll save you the hassle of the whole story of us trying to fix it, but nothing worked since the circuit leading from the down arrow to the control box was ripped. So my friend got the idea to replace the whole insde of the pad.
She went to the mall and bought one of those $20 BeatPads. We opened up the pad, took out the innards of both pads, and put the BeatPad sensors in the RedOctane pad. And best of all, it worked.
So with the "new" pad, I'm thiiiiis close to AA'ing HVAM heavy. Odd, mostly because the first song I played with the RO pad (almost a year ago) was HVAM light, and nearly AA'ed that.
Just thought I'd share my story with you people. |

they are all sliding into the middle  |

They are 1 inch foam insert pads. I actually just bought pads just like them a few days ago and they work wonderfully. Of course, I haven't had them that long so I can't really say if they stand up to test of time. If you are going to buy those kind of pads though, make sure you get them from Vortz A couple of friends of mine have purchased them and they work fantastically.

| My BNS DX extrem isn't broken but the part were it raise up the arrow for my left arrow is all out of place and I'm wondering if there is any way to move it back into places. I have had my pad for about 4 months now. |
