why did you start playing ddr?

You know, I have no idea why I started playing...
I guess I just did because it looked fun. At first, I thought I wasn't gonna get into it that much, but after watching and playing easy 1-footers, I slowly started liking it more and more.
It changed my life forever...

Mainly cuz i thought the people that were good got alot of attention and it was a good way to kinda impress some people so i went and bought ddrmax and 2 soft pads and went home and praticed till i was at least good enough to pass standard songs before i went back and played at the arcade.

Oddly enough, my venture starts off at www.gentoo.org, where i was looking for good games to play on my newly-installed gentoo linux distribution. I stumbled upon a "Top Ten Favorite Linux Games" thread, and someone happened to mention a nice python-based ddr simulator called "pydance". I looked it up, played the same 3 songs taht came with it for like 5 hours, then I got sick of those gay songs that came with it, so i googled for the "real songs". I ended up at some site called www.ddrmaniax.com or something like that, and i went on their irc chatroom to leech "bumpers", when everyone started making fun of me that i use Pydance and not Stepmania.

I've come along way, last december i was freaking out because i couldnt pass Butterfly (Upswing Mix) on standard with my FINGERS, and last Saturday i just passed HVAM on Heavy for the first time at an arcade... (i have done it a bunch of times on my home setup, though).

My brother bought DDRMAX and a soft pad a year a go. When I first started I sux3d, but by the end of the summer, I was able to get a B on MAX300 standard.

I was at my nephew's birthday party two Octobers ago. Looked at the DDR machine and just laughed and thought of it at as a joke. Well, by that Christmas, I basically asked for a pad and the game.

The first time I saw DDR it was on the boardwalk in NJ. Some guy had a huge crowd and was playing candy on heavy I think. I started playing a year later when i found a more secluded machine. Got the games a couple months later but never stopped going out often to various machines.
