Well, I started playing in Arizona when I went to the Glendale Bowling Alley with some friends. We started playing, and Butterfly handed me my buttocks on a silver platter. On light mode.

I was 290 pounds, at my lowest self esteem point in my life, and really overall just looking for a better stress relief than playing Ragnarok Online.

So I started going and playing more regularly. Then I heard that Ultramix was coming out for the XBOX, and since I do not own a PS2, I really wanted to get it. And I did, the day that it came out.

I played it every day for at least an hour. Sometimes more. It was an addiction to just jump around over and over and over and consistantly get better.

Now, since Nov. of last year, I've dropped to 220, in the best physical shape of my life, and have a much higher self esteem than I did before. All because of a musical game that kept me motivated.

Plus, it's a great way to meet new people.

hehe, Behold: the poster-child for the DDR fat-burning program

you can say:
"I lost 70lbs and I owe it all to DDR" *big, glittery smile*

BTW, I also lost weight with DDR, lost 30lbs in 9 months used to be 240, now 210lbs

I'm far from the poster child.

That guy is.

And I owe a lot of it to a new diet of healthy foods instead of burgers all the time. But that's another story altogether.

I always went to the arcade and sat and watched some of my friends and my boyfriend play because it amused and amazed me and they were all really really good. Then my boyfriend at the time got me to start playing. Now I*m on Heavy. And we broke up yesterday. Heh.

Horrible DDR story. E2.gif

I was in Wildwood New Jersey this summer and if anybody's ever been there knows that arcades are a dime a dozen. I first saw DDR 7th mix and was merely a spectator during that time. I came home and had forgotten all about it until just recently. I decided to play because I don't have to be famous to attract fans. biggrin.gif And it's good exercise.

Cheers!

It was a hot summer day at Boomtown in Reno. I was tired of the old run-of-the-mill shooters, fighting, and ticket giving games. I wanted to MOOOOOOOOVE. So I finally broke the barrier and began my DDR quest. I'm now on Standard/Heavy, feeling good, and feeling fit E4.gif .

I was introduced to it at 1998 didn't really get into it till 2000. Why? Cause I thought it was expensive just to play. Why I got into it? Cause my friends were harrassing me about playing eventually I surpass their level. None of them can do heavy songs :X.

My ex boyfriend always played and talked about it. I watched him play all the time, but never wanted to get into it. We ended up breaking up right before I went to the beach. I was out in Wildwood NJ and I passed an arcade with DDR and it made me think of him. I decided I was going to pick up DDR and play and get better then him just to sort of...I don't know...show him up. Something to make me feel better about myself and the break up. So I hopped on the machine and did suprisingly well on light mode for my first time playing (I guess all the watching had me catch on to how to play). I then bought the home version, and have been playing ever since. I have passed his skills needless to say biggrin.gif (he could only beat 6/7 footers, I can beat all songs 8 feet and below, most 9 footers, and 2 10 footers). I've been addicted ever since, and plan to keep on improving happy.gif

I remeber the days when it was considered to be one of the BEST if you could do a 4 step song!

Yeah, I noticed that everybody who played it when I watched were mostly on Light mode. Rarely Standard and Heavy. I'm thinking to myself I can do this, I can do this..but when I first got on the machine, I was really confused. LOL

Cheers!

At the time I first saw DDR, I was really into the Bust-A-Move/Groove series of games, and I just thought the whole concept was a REALLY neat idea. Plus i thought some of the songs were really catchy... and the flashing light, the hypnotic backgrounds.... it was pretty, dammit! E1.gif

Anyway, the very first time I saw DDR was at MGL, when I was randomly minature golfing there one time (and I mean randomly... i was living in chico at the time which is about 4 hours away from there). But over a year later, I saw a machine at a hotel during a convention in Las Vegas and it was an empty machine... and the friends I was with... well some of them were video gamer friends too who were drawn to the machine like I was so we had to play...... and we ended up playing most of the night. hehe. The rest, as they say, is history E10.gif

My sister and I had seen it played in Florida, when we were on vacation a few years back. We thought it looked really cool, and wanted to play it, but never got the chance. Last year, when we were vacationing in Las Vegas, we saw it played again, and we tried it like once. We (obviously) sucked horribly. One day, back around March, my sister all the sudden said "hey look at this" and it was a DDR package for the computer. Right away I wanted to get it. We downloaded the demo (midnight blaze-played it with keyboard) and kept researching. We bought it (had to have it shipped cause we live in Canada) and have played it ever sinse.

So, I guess, I ended up playing it just because it combines things I like. Such as dancing, music, and exercise (ok-i dont like excersice, but i like being active)

why did I start playing ddr? because I'm a gamer. I see a game and I gotta play it. DDR especially cuz it was like no game I ever saw at the arcade before. I kept playing ddr because I've actually made some cool friends and I lost 20 pounds thanks to that machine.
