Beginner Members

Hey evraybahday...

We've just implemented a new member rank - Beginner members.

Beginner is like giving training wheels to the Basic Members. You can make three threads per day, and ten replies maximum.

After two weeks, Beginner members become Basic Members. The four-week Basic-to-Trick term still applies, so this means that you now need six weeks to become a Trick Member.

Is this implemented to prevent the "OMG MUST GET TEH 30 POSTS FAST!!1one!eleven" mentality?

Also, since you now have "beginner," wouldn't it follow that basic/trick/maniac would change to light/standard/heavy? Or does nobody care enough to do that?

does this only affect basic members or can it change trick to basic also?

There are a couple reason we did this.

Reason #1: Trolls who insist on returning after a ban to take revenge on the site can't do nearly as much damage if they're limited to 10 posts per day.

Reason #2: It sometimes takes new people a little bit to get the hang of the boards. Often times, new members will go post crazy (see the link in Cutriss' signature

). This helps to prevent that and will make them consider what they should or shouldn't post a bit more.

It also give users more of a feeling of pride in graduating the ranks.

This change will only affect basic members on accounts younger than two weeks. Members who are already basic will be required to go through the full time process, so if they have been here over two weeks, but less than six, they will have to wait until 6 weeks before becoming trick.

So in order, it goes 2 weeks at beginner, then 4 additional weeks at basic (plus 25 posts), then trick.

No, you don't have to be a Trick Member for you to be able to put images in your signature and such. You go to your profile, and in your signature line you just do this:

Since you split Basic up to beginner, why isnt there anything higher than Trick? I mean I remember back when there was SSR Member, that was pretty cool. Of course its probably too much hassle to switch things, and figure out who would make a higher rank, but it always seemed a lil weird how the highest most ppl can go is trick.
