EDIT: Nevermind what I wrote before. I just bitter that I lost (though the pads really had a problem and they wouldn't fix it till I lost).
BTW DeathCab, its nice to know you didn't get brutally attacked at the arcade for once, and also that you had a good time. _________________

Oh, the nerve. This guy knows I suck, so why is he asking to take me on? I figured he was plotting the demise of my ego so I exited stage left with a "I would, but I've only been playing for about a week and I'm not that good" line. |
I just wanted to point out that you seem to have COMPLETELY misunderstood the player's intentions. Asking someone to split a game is simply a way of not having to wait in line for as long. Although it's called versus mode, it can't really be a competition unless both players want it to be. I play with people of far lower skill level than me, and I find that a lot of the time, they get a lot out of it because I can pass songs they can't, so they get to practice parts of the song that would otherwise be impossible to get to. In addition, they don't have to worry about losing their money because I'm not going to fail.
As for obnoxious DDR players, I haven't had to deal with many here in CO...all of the regulars to the arcades are awesome, and the remainder tend to get scared away when a large group of us roll up . There was one player I saw trying to imitate DJ 8-Ball by using a cane while he played...the cracking sound it made everytime it hit the panel made me want to kill him. That's probably the worst I've ever gotten. | AH. Indeed, you are right, compadre. But it would've been a bit embarassing on my part, because this guy was really good. And I mainly just wanted to play on my own and get some practice in. I generally only like to play versus with people somewhere in my vicinity, only because no one gets humiliated or embarassed because the other guy's better. So there's really no competition that way because you're both on the same level. We're not masochists here, and the people we play against generally aren't either.
Also, I'm sure you might be used to having a line to play DDR where you live, but here, it's a dead zone. People don't play versus to cut the wait, because there virtually is no wait. that's why I was a tad suspicious of his reasons behind confrontation. It was only gonna be another 5 minutes before I got the machine to myself again for the next few hours, so why not just let me wait it out? Also, this was the time when I was just starting out, so I was very self-conscious about my skills as well as my interaction with other players..nowadays, I'd definitely be a bit more open and a bit less sheltered. Also, considering my age, I'm one of the younger DDR players around (not that there are many X__X) and I've had many a pro want to play, and in turn, squash me, for the pure, conceited, glory of it, unfortunately. |
ah, the thrill of being 13, it's fun. BUT IT'S EVEN BETTER WHEN I OWN PEOPLE OLDER THAN ME!!!! Also, being the leader of the #1 western new york team is pretty cool.... |

sorry for the double-postey-ness, might as well use it.
One time, back when I was a newbie, I was playing with this elitist hardcore a*shole, and he decidedes he wants to try and AA a song. He gets a B, and he was talking to his friend right after the song ends. I see my grade, I see his grade, I hit the button. He hears the noise of the screen changing and looks at the screen then says: "What the f*ck dude?!?!?! I didn't see my grade! F*CK YOU!!!!" Keep in mind that I'm 13, and he's 17. Real mature dude. After the next song, which I picked, which was easy, he gets all evil again, and picks Max 300 and says: "You think yer tuff huh? Little f*ck"
I saw him a few weeks later, at a different arcade still trying to AA Freckles, and STILL getting a B. So I ask him, trying to be nice "Do you go on DDRfreak.com?", and he shoves past me, knocking me into a game behind me, and says "NO".......

I really get ticked at the impatient players. When its your turn to go up they approach you with that "We've been waiting for like an hour." crap. It's like "Yeah so have I." sometimes I'll let them go ahead of me cause I'm actually patient.
That and players who put up a coin, leave for like an hour, come back and say they had their coin up long ago when they weren't even there. They'll also throw the I wasn't here so mad people went ahead of me. Isn't the rule of a coin line if you leave the arcade upon putting the coin up you forfeit your space, unless like it's for something really important and not for a long period of time.
But one story was this one kid was waiting to go up, me too and I was ahead of him in line. Well apparently he complains to the arcade staff and they threaten to kick me out if I don't let him go ahead of me. Of course I have no choice really, but still just cause he can't wait another turn doesn't give them the right to throw me out for playing by the rule. What was worse was the kid kept picking Crash! I mean sure you like it but don't keep picking it!
Ah much better. |

I think only if you miss your turn then yes I can see. But if its like 2 or 3 people ahead of me, I sometimes look who is before me, leave and repark my car to a closer spot, or play an other game. I even went to the store once to get some stuff. Again its just common sence, there are no rules. I think leaving and coming back before your turn is fine. It's still a risk, someone stole my coin a few days ago, now no more coins. |

it wasnt exactly rude or obnoxious, i just thought it was kinda funny. this girl who couldnt speak english, was waiting for her turn and noticed everyone was cutting her cause she didnt know the whole coin system thingy so she threw a little hissy fit. and then when she finally started playing, she failed and started yelling at the machine. _________________

(me) err excuse me but there are people who are in line *points at coin system* and they've been(interrupted)
(parents)excuse me but i don't really care how long you've been waiting but my sons have been here for 30mins and still have not played so couldn't you just let them play?!
(me)well we have this system where(interrupted)

Ok yesterday me and my friends were playing DDR at the aracde and this one guy and his girlfriend came up and put there coin in line on the "K" in Komani. So we all went on and played, right? Well when we were leaving i wanted to grab my token form the machine for when i came next time. And i asked the guy "Hey. is this your token or mine" I pointed at the token on the "K" and he said in some badass voice "We always put our token on the "K" alright?" So i'm i just stood there all like "Ok" I walked off feeling bad. He could have said it a little different.... that just seemed rude to me, cause well i didn't know. Dont yell at me nothing.... |

I don't mind the newbies, most of them in my area are cool to hang with.
It's the n00bs that piss me off.
Example:
*presses start to begin first stage*
n00b b1tch: "You idiot!!"
Me: *annoyed* "?!"
n00b b1tch: "You're supposed to hold down the button!"
Me: *innocent yet sarcastic tone* "Oh ok. Why?"
*n00b ho explains about the mods and crap...while I pretend to listen because I already know*
.......
It was rude to be called an idiot, but she shut up after I caned her. |

I get annoyed with people who seem to think that they can get away with things that others can't... like practically pushing people off the stage, blocking the screen while putting their coins in before you're even done with your last song (if not before that), goofing off on the other pad snd being a general annoyance to everyone in the place.
The only real nice part about my situation in the arcade is that I work there and so I can kick the little monsters out if need be. |

JUSTIN!!! 100%, pure, JUSTIN!!! (Now with 27% more flipoffs!)
With that out of the way, I do hate it when kids with no clue how to play get up on the machine and act like they know exactly what they're doing. It's even worse if they do one of the following:
1. Play the same song over and over
2. Play the default song over and over (because they don't know the left and right buttons exist) (I already hated A Minute, but Graduation is a decent song. I hate it when newbies kill it.)
3. Step way off cue because they don't know where the cue is _________________

I've only had to play with one idiot. I walked in,went straight to the machine, and put my coin on the line. i watched him play some song on light. when he was done,i got up on the machine with him. he asked if i could keep up with him, and i said yeah.
When we start, i pick light and he picks heavy.he said, "i thought you said you could keep up with me". well, i could, right? "i could keep up with your last song." "well, i was freestyling." how did i know? hid did, like, 1 spin. i saw him do 1 song. what an buttocks.
we barely get anyone who hasnt played that wants to. and when we do, they're nice. i let them cut in front, because i know they wont play too long. so they arent really a bother.

My only current complaint is that I happened to see some people I knew from school at the arcade the other day...they'd never played DDR before.
So I jumped up on the right pad, as usual...and what does Robbie do? He hops onto the left and starts imitating me, though he has no idea what he's doing, and is trying to learn.
It was. Distracting. As. All. Hell. |
