Well, Home or Arcade...tough question. It really depends on what diffculty you are playing on and where you are progressing in the game. If you are just starting to play DDR, then playing the game on your PS2 is good because it's cheaper, which will help you learn to play more and more without the worries of spending too much and also a person won't have to worry about the feeling of people watching you play.

Yet, if you are an accomplished DDR player, playing at the arcade is good because the metal pads are the best things to play on rather than non-metal pads because a person can only play so much on the non-metal pads before the pads become to worn out for an expert player to play on. So it's a split decision on where you want to play. For me, I worn out my pads, so now I'm playing at the arcades.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The arcade is the total DDR experiance. You've got the loud music, the perfect pad, the over-estactic crowd. The arcade is the best. Personally, I feel that the home pad is just for practice and beginners. After a certain point you should be playing the arcade regularly.

Why I like the arcade...

1. The machine I use personally is in great condition and is 7th mix
2. There are almost no lines
3. Though there are no lines, it still draws the attention of passerbys. The reason for this being that my (yes... my) machine is situated in a Regal Cinemas, in an arcade area situated directly next to the box office and ticket line. Therefore, people can watch people dance as they wait.
4. Almost no noobs (see "there are almost no lines")
5. Water is readily available due to a water fountain
6. There are those incredible (from my perspective) players who can... advise me on how to better my ddr performance

Why I like home...

1. I spent no money on the actual game and dance pad (my sister took care of all that)
2. I have a nice tv and huge basement to dance in
3. I still get praise for my dancing from my brother, his computer being roughly 10 feet behind me and all, and who also happens to not ddr at all.
4. I don't make an idiot out of myself in front of anyone (who cares)
5. Im still a noob (shut up) so this gives me good practice
6. When i need a break at home i can sit down on my nice sofa, and watch tv until i've caught my breath and can break it down again.
7. Again, no money spent on the 75 cents that is required at the arcade.

Final Choice! (drumroll).......... ARCADE

Although i still haven't played much at my real ddr machine, it still suits me better. I don't mind the... quote "big pads" at arcades, as i am 6'2" and have massive feet (try size 12). My machine has some nice songs on it that i enjoy dancing to. I am going to try to get to the arcade more often so I don't become to accustomed to the smaller home pads.

Everyone has their own preferance, due to their particular situaton, and my situation happens to be very good at my arcade. E15.gif

Arcade:

Pros:

audience if yur good

get to meet other DDRers

metal pad

stable screen if u wanna matrix walk(risk of breaking machine)

Cons:

cost money E2.gif

can't screw around if u dont wanna look like an idiot

usually at least a few newbs and/or smart asses around

Home

Pros:

doesnt cost money to play

Cons:

no audience:sniff: (which could be good if u suck)

Regular soft pad:

Pros:

cheap, good for beginners

Cons:

bunches up

NOT durable, rips

can't use shoes

Red Octane Ignition 2.0:

Pros:

very sensitive

durable, collapsible

Cons:

can't use shoes unless u have a cover

Metal Pad(Red Octane, Cobalt Flux):

Pros:

can use shoes

good reactivity(depends on company)

very durable(once again depends on company)

Cons:

Very expensive

overall i'd have to say arcade over home because of the audience, however it is very close if u have a CF pad(which i do)

alright..personally, i like both, arcade as some strange allure though...if you have a cobalt flux however, you have a good pad and can play for free on your comp/psx/etc for free...cobalt ends up paying for itself in tokens, lol...

i play at the arcade because:
1. it's a legit extreme
2. it has water fountains close to the machine
3. it's highly air conditioned (seriously, they keep the place at like 65 degrees)
4. no lines except on half-price day (and even then, it's all heavy players)
5. i know people that go there on half-price day (even though i'm the youngest)

i play at home because:
1. better pad sensitvity (even though it's metal)
2. no cash is spent
3. if i fail, no one's watching so it doesn't matter
4. at home, there's training mode

so i perfer the arcade over home, even though i only go to the arcade once or twice a week.

I think that the home version is easier, but nothing can beat the arcade.

As an avid user of NNR I have to say that any score not done in an arcade or on a privately owned machine set at the default difficulty (I think its 4) is not a valid score. I play for accuracy. If I get a "AAA" but one of the step were a pad mis then I won't count it. The machine tells all. And if your really picky like me...find a link version and save all your scores on your memory card....that'll show'em.

I like arcade better. I dont really have a good home pad though.
One time after I played ddr for a long time on the arcade. i felt like never playing ddr again without the arcade pad thingy.

i like my home verision better........it is cheaper, i got better pads than the one at our acarde, and you can control how hard the difficulty is..

The acarde is fun cuz it is hard and u gotta bar to freestyle with..and you can make people stare at you and your L33T skills E7.gif

Currently I prefer to play at home. I'm just not use to the arcade pads yet. Every now and then while I'm playing I tend to get "out of place" resulting in me hitting the metal frame rather than the arrows resulting in me failing songs. However the feeling of playing at the arcade just feels so good. Hopefully I will get more accustomed to the arcade pad as I am currently making my own metal pad for home use which will be as close to the arcade pad as I can make it.

arcade. if you go to arcades often you meet so many more people and you look forwards to going to the arcade not just for ddr, but also as a social event. it makes doing anything so much more fun when you have friends to do it with (not that ddr isn't fun alone... its just less fun alone)
