Well, my friend and I were on an overnight trip at an arcade with free play. We saw some people playing DDR and thought it looked cool, so we tried. We weren't too good at all, but kept on playing. When we left I forgot to take a look at what it was called so I didn't know til about a year later when I saw my friend had it at home, and that's how I began

I forgot about DDR and about a year and a half later saw it at the movies. I was ready!

The song: We will rock you.
The level: Light
The Grade: Failure....I might've gotten one perfect if that.

The 15 people crowded around me left whispering in each other's ears. I was furious! I vowed that some day I would get revenge on this DDR! Another 6 months later I decided I must tame the beast! I begged my parents to get me DDR for Christmas, and they agreed. Just last December. The legacy began. I worked in this harsh climate, suffering many hours to reach the top of the mountain known as DDR! Now, 7 months later, I can almost pass MaxX Unlimited (failed about 3 seconds before the end, WHY GOD?!?!).

and that's my overdramatized story of my DDR legacy.

OMG that was so awesome. you really made me laugh. i think i laughed cause i could hear myself saying the same things! rampage even got a laugh out of it.

Well i first went to the arcade for a b-day party for my friend. and there was a PIU at the corner at the farr end of the enitre complex. (Very big) I went to go look around and what do ya know. I found it. There was no one on it and noone was around it. (i dunno y) so i was like..hmmmmm whats this. and i went to try it out. The thing was, no one told me how to play or what to do but i was doing pretty good (i forgot what song it was, and its not that hard to learn plus i have good rhytm.) After that i liked it, but it wasn't easy finding a PIU near me, other then that arcade, which costs serious money to use, (to drive there and then the game cost). So i went to the local ardace and i found a DDR 4th mix i think. and i liked it. Funny thing is, no one was playing this one either. Everyone was either just talking while standing on the mat, or avoiding it like it was infested and quarantined. As soon as i put money into it, people started to look at me as if they were thinking (wtf? is he actually gonna try to play?!?!)

What start my first DDR legacy is that my brother got the very first DDR game on playstation when it first came out(Dont remember when) he learn pretty fast and i tryed it and liked it. I wasnt insanely hooked on it but i would still play it and best song was dynamite rave light. Then later on got konamix and then was hooked i didnt play at the arcade because didnt step hard enough on the arrows so i quit. Then when max got out on ps2 i was hooked and now im playing yet again and im working on some 9 foot songs i can do a good amount on max2. riiight.gif

I started about 1 year after seeing ddr. I was in nashville and saw a guy playing it, excelently might i add, and thought "I'll never play such a stupid game".

...1 year later....

I'm helping out at the Lan Center where I lived called Media Works and the owner was working on one of the back rooms. He come up and told me to come check out what he had. I walked in and it was 2 mad catz flat pads mod'ed with wood and plexiglass hooked to a ps2 and big screen tv and stereo. I was disgusted. Then Graham and Daniel, Akuma and Otaku respectivly, showed up with Brandon and those two were all hyped up about it. Finnally, they talked Brandon into trying and, like all new people, he failed the song. Thankfully (otherwise, i might still not play) I let my ego get the better of me, and decided I would play one round. You know, prove how much the game sucked. Well, Brandon played against me in a verses round and won. I couldn't stand for that. All that week I played, at least 8 hours a day while i was at the lan center and next weekend, I jumped from light strait to heavy, and never looked back. Thus was the start of my DDR Singles Legacy, as well as my start with PxDn.

May 1999: A month right after playing that DDR 1.5 mix machine in Cyberzone Arcade in Koreatown, I decided to help a player named Govern who ran a website called www.bemanix.com on finding the current DDR arcade locations in the Southern CA area. Right after finding the locations, www.ddrfreak.com was also finding the locations as well. And the rest is history. Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!

I remember a loooooooooong time ago, I was at the Boomtown Reno arcade looking for something new to play (besides racing and shooting games) when I saw a 5th Mix Machine. I said to myself "why not?" and played on it a little while. I played "Swing It" (such a cool song) and failed a couple times before getting the gist of it. I also played on the Max 2 machine next to it. I played Long Train Running and Let's Groove (I failed Let's Groove repeatedly. That song is sooo easy now). Since then, I have passed numerous songs on both Light and Standard, with MAX 300 being the most standout.

Mine started about 10 months ago. I was playing Yu-gi-oh and some guys came into the card shop and I started talking to them. We were walking around and they then told me they played ddr. At first I was thinking how I would never play that game, but they took me to an arcade to try it out. I did Look to the Sky on Light and passed it with a B. I liked the song alot and the game was fun so I decided to play. Now I still know them and we play ddr almost everyday.

I think it was three years ago. I saw my older bro playing it, and I thought it looked fun. So I tried it out . . . and was able to do Trick/Standard songs in a month.

I got started when about 3 years ago, my local mall arcade got rid of its Dance ManiaX. Me and my friend were pissed off about it. So one day, my friend told me about another music game where you step on arrows. We thought it sounded good so we found a local arcade that had a DDR 3rd Mix Korean V.2. We caught on quick and were playing DDR every weekend. Then we started getting to know the other DDR players. They then told up that the mall was getting a DDR Max2. So we started going back to the mall. Later, the Manager at the mall's arcade get us back our Dance ManiaX and a PPP but got rid of PPP when some guy in CA wanted to buy it. So thats the story. Now we have DDR Extreme at both locations and Dance ManiaX.

Mine's a very long story, so...Here we go.

Alright, many years ago, '01 perhaps, I spotted my first DDR machine. It was a...4th, I think. Wasn't being used, it was just standing there. It was at a lockin that my church had (Lock in. Arcade. Go karts. Bumper boats. AWESOME.), from like...10-5. It intrigued me, of course, but I didn't use it.

Fast forward three months. I'm at Sea World, and see a 3rd machine. Again, I just kinda watch the thing a bit, then some guy hops on, doing like...Basic, or something. I know the arrows confused me, but then, the demos confused me, so he couldn't be *that* great. I know it couldn't be Maniac.

That was the first time I watched somebody play, and I didn't see another dance machine for about a year. Next year, I'm at Mr. Gatti's, and a I see a PIU machine. I'm there with my girlfriend, so of course I go 'what the hell?', and try it. Of course, I had just watched a bar raper finish, so naturally this monkey did, and I never let go of the thing. It was fun, blahblahblah, didn't improve much, blahblahblah. And then, later, we had a trip to Dave and Buster's (Expensive, don't ever DDR or PIU at one of those places if you can avoid it!), and once again, a PIU machine. I hopped up, scared the crap out of my friends with my second level 1337ness, and I was officially hooked. I just had to have it for home.

Also, by this time, I start discussing it with a friend over the internet, and she says she much prefers PIU, so that's really what I'm hoping to get.

However, the logistics of finding a PIU pad and PIU disc were too difficult, and so I settled for DDR. I searched eBay, found a bundle for $55, called EB Games, found Konamix and two pads for 70. Booyah, I can't wait for eBay, so I get the ones at EB (A move I later found to be smart - eBay didn't have a full replacement guarantee on their pads *grin*), hook it up in my room, and start playing. I remember my first song very well, it was B4U. Of course, by now I've been playing FFR (Meh, it's not that great, don't go out of your way to try it), so reading arrows is no sweat, so I annihilate it. B4U is thusly a very sentimental song to me.

Also, a minor nifty thing, the day I bought the pads and game was August 14th, 2003 (Whoo, almost goin' for a year!). On that day, I had heard about pad failures and blahblahblah, so I estimated three months until I needed a replacement. November 14th, I take them back, check the receipt, think a moment, then go, "DAMN I'm good..." And there's my somewhat longish story. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed performing the actions in it.
