i think arcade is better b/c i have pad and when i play on the pad i can't move as fast and when it gets wrinkled and the the stupid things inside the pad move around and then the arrows aren't in the right spot and its just flat and they rip easy and arcade is just better b/c its on a platform and when u step on the arrow when pickin a song nothin happens |

Well considoring that arcades window for perfect is smaller than the consol, consol is easier for me. Although I only played it like 4 times when I first learned about ddr, since then I have played consol cause I bought it.
But arcade is nice because its comfortable. ie-shoes, metal pad, bar to grab, raised above ground.
I dunno, consol is nice because I'm used to it, arcade is nice because its well built and made for heavy duty. |

I'm much better with my consol, because I'm a lot more used to it. When I'm at the arcade I dont pick up my feet or step hard enough... There are songs that I'll get an A on at home and then go to the arcade and fail. |

Console is easier for me, because I'm more used to it. I rarely go to places that have DDR Arcade style, and the metal pads are smaller than the console ones. So I end up falling off by stepping where the voices in my head are telling me to.
Example:
This is incredibly shameful. Laugh if you want, I don't care.
I played Butterfly on Light at Playdium and fell off the mat. I'm lucky I didn't fail.
I failed every Heavy song I played. Even the 7-footers. Whereas at home on the console, I can pass 8-9 footers with relatively high grades (for someone who's been playing DDr altogether less than three months).
The only songs I passed were 3-foot-or-less, with the exception of Paranoia Evolution on Light, which stepchart I have practically memorized, so I got to look down and see where I was stepping. Sure, call me a cheater. >>
The problem I encounter is: NOT KNOWING WHERE EXACTLY TO STEP. Damned difference in size between the mats of the arcade and console. I need to get out more often and accustom to both. _________________

Ok...If you have a home pad...the cheapest way to get the programming at home is to get a PS2 to USB converter ($20 on ebay) and download stepmania with ALL OF THE MIXES. So calm yourself.
Anyway, about the forums origional despute: Home is a lot easier to me. My style of play requires me to slide a lot and the bolts at the arcade kinda hinder that. I still see it, though, that playing at home is just practice for the performance at the arcade. _________________

Console for me tends to be easier, but arcade is more fun... it's kinda like the difference between a scrimmage and a game... "It's the games that count, not the practices." If there's a song I can't do in the arcade, the odds that I learn it at home before I pass it in the arcade are pretty good, and that's without even "setting out" to pass the song. That and I think the home version is programmed to be a bit "more forgiving." Evidence of that is the fact you can combo out just about anything at home and get a "AA," but a combo-out in the arcade doesn't always get you that.

I do a lot better on the console. But now that I am getting used to the metal pads at the arcade I prefer it just because of the atmosphere. |
