And do people complain? I.E. your parents. Cos mine don't let me own DDR, cos It will make too much noise and such. But, I was wondering where some of you guys have your home version (except for basement, I WOULD have mine in the basement, but it's unfinished down there and for some reason my parents are obliged for the system to be down there. Also, if you do play on main floor/upper floor of your home, or in an apartment, what do the people around you say about the noise? Does it bother them?
All comments are appreciated. Thanks! |

If I was your parent, I would say the same thing! I tried DDR in the living room, which is on the second floor, and the whole house frickin shook! Forget the noise issue, the home stability issue was more frightening to me. I then moved DDR to the ground floor bedroom, and it worked beautifully there. If you're on the foundation level, you won't shake anything with all that jumping. I wish I had a basement so I didn't have to give up a bedroom. The garage could also work if you're willing to give up a parking spot. |

i play on our first floor, which isn't built very solid, due to a rather large crawlspace spanning the whole house... things shake, bang, boom and fall ALOT in my house. I would move it to the garage, but I have a homepad, and that is liable to get VERY dusty with all the work that happens in there... I don't want that sort of abuse happening to me precious... _________________

I usually play on the first floor (not the basement) and it does shake a bit. But the noise and shake-ageness can be reduced by a sturdy pad. My RedOctane is a lot quieter than the old Mad Catz pads they replaced.
And I don't play the volume louder than it is on the TV, just because. But when I'm at my friends house (who happens to have nice speakers...) _________________

I usually play in the basement, and when playing by myself the volume is relatively low. When my brother plays it's usually louder. The ps2 used to be in my room, and I had it on -- get this -- volume level 3. Out of about 50. I could hear it fine, so I played it, a lot. Since my room is on the top floor of my house, everyone could hear my footsteps, but it didn't bother them. My mom could even sleep through it. But it's in the basement now, so no one hears our footsteps unless they're close. _________________

I play on the 3rd floor, and only use soft pads, because metal was too noisy. I try to step lightly and only play at reasonable hours, so I've never had any complaints. As for the "stability" issue, I once had the pad near a set of bookcases, and that was pretty scary. Some spots definitely seem sturdier than others. |

I play in my living room. When I play it is loud enough to hear clearly, but quite enough to play it at night and not wake anyone up. |

Back at my old house I had my DDR set up in my room. Wasn't much of a problem, just that my family could tell whether I was playing light or heavy. Of course, can't play at night because of that. I kinda had an exception on the noise issue cuz I had no door at the time.
Now in my new house, when I play nobody can even tell if I'm playing unless I have the door open.
Guess it all depends on how old your house is on how much noise is made maybe? |

I play in the basement and have a rug with 2 cobalt flux's and big T.V. with surround speakers. No one has a problem with the sound unless I'm blasting with my speakers lol the steps are sometimes loud but never reach upstairs to bother anyone. My parents don't mind the loudness as long as it isn't BLASTING just LOUD |

At my friend's house, we play in the upstairs living room. He has a pretty new/well built house so it's not bad at all. The TV is up pretty loud but his parents don't seem to mind. At my house I play in the downstairs living room. My house was originally built in 1908 so things shake a lot. The other day my mom said a lamp nearly fell of the coffee table. :X Max300 is deadly in my house. |

hi there, i currently own a psone and 2 un-modded soft dance pads that look like this: http://store.yahoo.com/game-questdirect/68954100003.html. i had been playing in the basement of my house for almost a year, but i recently moved into a 2nd floor apartment. i would like to continue to play, however i am very worried about disturbing my neighbors below me. we have a thin carpet on the floor, but i know that is not enough to insulate the sound. what would be the quietest pad to use on the 2nd floor? i am not sure that metal pads would do the trick because it would just carry the vibrations from my feet, through the metal pad, through the floor, and down into the apartment below me. i have read on-line about the redoctane dance pad (http://www.redoctane.com/exreddanpad.html) and the redoctane ignition 2.0 pad (http://www.redoctane.com/ignitionpad.html). i am just not sure what would be best for this situation. please draw from your knowledge and experiences and let me know what you all think would be the best solution. _________________

The noise I make is a very big problem in my house. You see my step dad built the house we live in and the walls are VERY thin and you can see through the door frames. anyways if I am playing you will know. as for the shaking thing, that is a most definite problem, as I stated before the craftmanship level of our house isn't very high so one step and my whole house shakes (and I am not exagerating) the first time I played a heavy song my entire bionicle collection flew off the shelf (it took my like four hours to set up the poses I had) my gamecube fell off the top of my t.v. as well as my rikku action figure (i'm a collector) oh and my hologram clock fell over as well. needless to say now I have taped everything down (or put it in a good balanced planted pose). My mom set some ground rules like no playing when somone is sleeping (my sister goes to bed at 8!) also no playing when my sister is watching movies (if she's home she's watching a movie) no playing when my stepdad is on the phone (if he's home he's on the phone) no playing when we have company, and no playing if my step dad is working on the house (apparentley he needs it is hard to work when the house is a giant boombox) if you do the math the only time I can play is when I am home alone (luckily we live out in the boonies and I can't see my neihbor's house or they would be complaining as well) great thing is: I am home alone 60% of the time (but it is usually 90+ degrees at that point) As for where in my house i play, that would be in my first floor bedroom which litterally has maybe 4 foot by 3 foot of floor space which is barely enough room for my dance mat... |

I have mine setup outside in my garage not really because my parents didn't like it cuz my mom liked watching but because i wanted some place to be able to blast my music. and the loudness also depends on the kind of pad you have. metal pads dont make half as much noise as soft pads.. but here's my setup.

i used to play here in my apartment, which is above my neighbors
never got a compaint except from my gf, and she don't count
now i play at my friends upstairs apartment, and his neighbors called
the cops cuz we were to loud, but my floor is basicly a concret slab with
carpet and stuff underneath, so good solid built place, no problem, cheap
built apartment, get ready to explain to the cops what all the noise is about |

I play in my basement, it's finished and really nice. My parents wouldn't let me play in the living room because of the vibrations.
I don't have neighbor problems thankfully because the houses are far enough apart and I don't always play late into the night. |
