Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

It's a compliment when it's just for fun.

But if it's to see who "PWNZ", it's not.

They probably just don't feel like waiting in line. Around here, when people want to play, they want to play now!

Yah, usually people will ask to play with you to save time, not really to play against you. You can be competitive in your mind if you want to, but you shouldn't necessarily force competition into the game unless it's fun for you and the other person.

Agreed, they just don't want to wait through another game. Where I play, everyone plays vs. every game. If someone wants to play by themselves, well, tough, it's everyone's machine and you have to be time-efficient.

Besides, no one ever pays attention to the other persons' score anyway. Half the time, I don't even look at my own score, unless I think I've beaten one of my personal records.

It should be called "simultaneous" instead of "vs."

People just want to play with me at my arcade because all of the regulars or the non-n00bs now that it's on Joint Premium. That's the only reason people ask me to go up with them.

Hardly anyone actually plays "Versus Mode" with their true intent to "challenge" you. I rarely see that anymore, they probably just want to skip in line when they see that you're playing by yourself.

Usually, people ask me to play with them so they can try harder songs, basically wanting me to carry them. I don't have too much a problem with that. But when someone asks to vs. me, that usually means they have something to prove.

This one time I was playing, some kid came up to me saying "damn, you're hella good, but I'm better!" I'm like "whatever, kid." So he challenged me, and I don't really like to be challenged much because I have nothing to prove. So me and this kid go at it, and it wasn't even close. Out of 4 songs including extra stage, I was ahead of him by like 250 something perfects. He claimed I cheated, and everybody around him said "you just got pwned by the guy you tried to pwn." Kid left crying. Pretty sad.

I like actual battles in DDR. They're pretty fun. Usually, when I play Versus with someone, I think of it as competition.

I think it's always good. A test of one's ability in comparison to another sounds good to me.

it's nice to have some friendly competition once in a while, and it's also a good opportunity to play songs that you don't usually play, or have never played before.

I dunno about you guys, but I'm a weirdo. I find it as an insult. I don't like DDR battles. Besides, I'm not a very competitive person to start with. But thats just me.

Well, don't look at it as a good thing or bad thing......don't look at it as "vs" in a fighting game or something to be competitive in.

If anything if someone plays "vs' all they're doing is taking their turn on the game with yours....via less time to wait to play and not seem like a machine hog or whatever.

in my opinion its just how you see the other parties "motive" you could call it. they might come off cocky/arrogrant and what not but if they want to vs it could mean they just want to have fun or be competetive. but i dunno really i dont play at the arcades too much so i dont know all the un-written rules of DDR at the arcades

I've never been challenged. People just ask to play "with" you. Also, everyone here is either muchworse or much better than me, so there's no use in challenging anyone.

Yeah, friendly competition. I don't see what the huge deal is when some PAer comes in, asks if I wanna play DDR with him (I say I do) then we play, he wins. But then the not so fun part is when my own friends come up to me and are all, "Dude! He kicked your buttocks! You got it handed to you! OMG! He must be God to beat you!"

...

See my point? Why can't the world be more friendly competition based?

At the location that I play, it is encouraged to play versus because it is free. one quarter to play three songs of DDR (four for extra stage). Yey.
