Watching your wieght and playing DDR kind of ruins the experience for me. I lost about 10 pounds just because I wanted to get better.

Good point Bruce..I actually work for a diet and fitness site though so part of my purpose was to see for myself if its good exercise and how it would work for the people I help. Most of these people are older and are not even aware of DDR.

Course now that I got mine I LOVE it and I do appreciate your point. I also appreciate the advise on here from all of you.

I got another question here. I am doing beginner or light and frankly I cannot see how my body can be in so many spots at one time for heavy or standard..are we doing flips or using our hands here? I am serious!

And exactly what does UNLOCKING a song mean. I saw all the songs when I started I think..and they worked..so what is unlocking them..(yeah I read the booklet and cant figure it out)

GREAT WORKOUT!

Wow, so many posts and mostly about nothing...so let's sum it all up in a single post, shall we?

USA DDR mixes (aka, released for sale and use in the USA)

Dance Dance Revolution (PS1) - First mix released for the PS1 in the USA. This is considered by most fans to be the worst DDR home version available. Only the true die hard fans will want to pick this up.

Konamix (PS1) - The title says it all. These are all Konami Original songs and is the best PS1 version of the game available. You can usually find it for about $30 brand new in stores even today. It does have Workout mode, character selection and Solo Mode (6 panel).

Disney Mix (PS1) - Yup, there really is a Disney mix in the USA. It features songs you won't find on any other mixes and is the hardest USA mix to find anywhere. Some hate it, others love it. If you love Disney or just want exclusive songs that this mix offers, prepare to spend at least $40-100 for this mix and good luck finding it.

DDRMax (PS2) - The first home version for the PS2 and still considered to be the best mix by most fans. This was the first home mix to feature Oni (Challenge Mode) and has one of the best unlocking processes (since it requires you to fulfill certain requirements or do certain events to unlock songs and Oni courses. For a complete listing of how to unlock everything for this game and all the other DDR games, go to http://www.gamefaqs.com). This mix also features some of the best songs in the game (new and old) including the once widely feared Max 300. While it does not have Beginner Mode, it does offer quite a few easy Light songs and all the DDR mixes include Lesson and Training Mode, which any new DDR player should use and learn from.

DDRMax 2 (PS2) - The second PS2 DDR game to come out. With a watered down song list and tons of repeat songs from earlier USA versions, fans complained a lot about how this mix was too easy for experienced players and how Oni Mode was simply left out, replaced with Non-Stop Mode. However, with the addition of Endless Mode, selectable characters and Beginner Mode (making this truely the newbie player's mix to own), many newer fans of the game were quite pleased. The Unlock process is very simple and pretty lame compared to DDRMax, since it took some people around 2-3 hours to fully unlock all the songs and Non-Stop courses. Overall, newer players will love this mix, while older players like myself let it collect dust on my shelf.

DDR Ultramix (Xbox) - I don't own it and have never played on it, so this description will be short E13.gif Similar to the Max's on PS2 as far as game options and modes, with one major exception; Ultramix supports online play. This mix also features some brand new songs exclusive to this mix and also debuts some older songs that have never been released on any other home console in the USA; such as Can't Stop Falling in Love Speed Mix. The game features a completely different look than other DDR mixes, mostly in design and layout, and this is the first home version since Konamix to come out that doesn't have an arcade mix linked to it (since Max and Max 2 are based off 6th and 7th Mix respectively, even if they don't have similar songs, but that's another arguement).

DDR Extreme and Ultramix 2 are set to be released soon. If you'd like to read up on all the gossip and fact about these new mixes, check out their very long threads in the Console Section of this forum. Also, it's very possible to do every song on Heavy with just your feet. If you want to see the proof, either start downloading some DDR videos (which you can find posted all over this website and forum) or go down to your local arcade and witness the better players in your area. The first time you see somebody play any song which is beyond your comprehension is very cool and also very encouraging. My first few weeks playing DDR were the best. If you have any other specific questions, please ask, we are here to help.

First of all, within the past couple months, I haven't changed my diet, per say. Really, I just moderate how MUCH I eat.

I used to keep track of my kcals burned per day, and I'd shoot for 1,000 or so daily... which is about half of a normal daily caloric intake. I've also worked on building up my 'crunch-count:' After starting off two months ago at 100, I'm now up to 300-400 crunches a day.

Now, I usually play DDRMAX and DDRMAX2 in 'game mode,' without really paying attention to the exact calorie counts... but when I play all 8 and 9 footers for about 40 minutes to an hour a day, it usually packs a good punch.

So what are the results? I've purposely avoided scales as of late, and judge based on appearance only. I wasn't very 'fat' to begin with, but instead, I've started this mostly for tonage... and the results are coming along slowly, but they're very apparent. If I wanted to lose a lot of weight, I could probably do it faster by dropping all the pop I drink, but again... heh.

How much you need to do, and how much you need to change depends on how much you want to drop.

Ok here is my opinion..

Sacredcow, You should absolutely get rid of the soda ..lots of fake chemicals in it.

Dre..yes exercise is good but what you eat is very important. The site I work for teaches people to eat like the French who are slender as a culture. Here are 3 simple rules..eat real food (that means fruits, veggies, meat, dairy but dont eat things that are fake like twinkies, boxed mac and cheese - read the label, eat less of the real food ..in other words watch the portions.., and no snacking except occasionally if you need it in the afternoon..
Watch out for chemicals..things like the aspartame in diet soda, and high fructose corn syrup in some salad dressings can make you GAIN weight.
Your body doesnt know how to process them right.

Take a look around your kitchen. You will be amazed at all the items that contain high fructose corn syrup which the body doesnt process right and it leads to weight gain.

Mmm, that was a good 4 pages of reading. biggrin.gif

Just want an opinion from the group if anyone can/will help. E13.gif

I started playing DDR Extreme about 7months ago, was really hard at first but now I'm up to 7-8steps to pass easily with B or A ranking. During this time I started at about 300lbs, and have lost a good amount but I have yet to weigh myself blink.gif , don't ask why... cuz I don't know laugh.gif

But what I want to ask is this:
I've cut out 95% of my soda intake and replaced it with water/apple juice. I've been trying to limit my fast food, but I still eat there moreso than I do at home (Mom is such a good cook though E2.gif ). When I do go, I try to only get a double burger and stick with that only. 1 or 2 a day and DDR for at least 2 hours.. that seem feasible to the group? E4.gif

Bliz
First off try to drink water and EAT an apple instead of drinking apple juice. Apple juice is fine in moderation but it does have a lot of sugar and no fiber. So if you eat an apple you are getting fiber that fills you up and it will hold you longer and is better for you.
Dont feel like you have to drink a ton of water. Drink when you are thirsty.

As far as fast foods go..You have to do what fits your lifestyle and if most of the time you are in fast food spots well then you have to figure out what you can eat there.
Salads and grilled meat are always good but thats not super filling.
If you opt for the burger take a look at what you put on it. Special sauces from fast food joints are loaded with fake chemicals and calories. Ketchup has high fructose corn syrup in it which the body does not process well.
SO put lettuce and tomato on your burger. These veggies will give it the wetness that ketchup does.
Avoid the fries as they are cooked in oils that are bad for you. OR have them rarely.

Eat a salad with your burger to get in more veggies and give you fiber to fill you up. Pick a salad dressing that doesnt have a lot of fake stuff in it. DONT PICK the fat free fakey dressings.

Ask for water with your meal. Soda is really bad for your health and a major cause of obesity in the US.
Hope this helps.

Now does anyone know if workoutmode can be done on beginner only and if so how to program it.
I am in excellent cardiovascular shape but my brain and feet are still in beginner mode!

I prefer Kix.....it just some how tastes good, even though it doesn't have any artificial flavors (i think)

And to Organia. I don't think you can ask for Water at a fast food stop. Maybe a water bottle, but i'm not entirely sure.

Celestial you absolutely can ask for water. My daughter drank 1/2 a soda once and has never had anything but water since!
She says soda burns as it goes down.

Dre. I checked my FAUX food list at the fatfallacy site and yes honeynut cheerios are considered fake..just how bad ..you would have to send me a list of ingredients.

I'd like an opinion on a few things -

For about 2 weeks now I've been eating the cereal Total (Whole Grain)

It's pretty incredible when you think about it - one serving has 100% daily serving of over 12 vitamins and minerals and other things. The calories are great (I'm guessing its around 280 dollars with one serving cereal + one serving 2% reduced fat milk)

I'd like to know if Whole Grains are a good cereal choice for people who are aiming to lose weight?
