Wear baggy pants and skip around wackily, maybe even spelling out your name as you do it. It can get you shot if you do it in the wrong area.

Fun, huh? biggrin.gif

Eh, it's...not the kind of dance that was meant to be done on a DDR pad. If you read either of the links, the dance isn't about dance at all, it's about attitude, strutting your stuff, marking your 'hood territory and the like. It gets a laugh from most freestylers these days if they see someone doing it, since DDR players typically belong anywhere BUT a real 'hood.

Meh, I don't know how to do it, though, so I can't teach ya.

As for gliding...well, if you say you already know how to do it, then practice is key - KidZero was also a breaker, so he already had training with b-boy footwork in the past (that's how the slide made it to DDR, really). So keep training until it becomes second nature.

I guess you could try different arrow-to-arrow combinations, ghost step a hell of a lot, use a lot of power, be sure to focus on shifting your weight. It's hard to teach someone in text, just mimic what you see in KZ's videos and practice stepping a lot. Getting smooth soled shoes never hurt either. biggrin.gif

Ah, and glider, if you meant float walking, like A-Jay or uh, Michael Jackson would do, then that's another thing entirely, and I can't find any guides. Mr. Wiggles has a video on that topic, but that's about all I've bothered to find, besides a little stuff on Kazaa.

firstly. floating and gliding are different.

KZ does backglides usually.

floating is a heal toe side to side movement.

however, the idea behind the heel toe movement is also present in backgliding and most other slides and glides.

why try to "look like kidzero" though? how about try to look like you! make your own stuff up. i mean, there's nothing wrong with doing a backglide on ddr. and if someone says you copied kidzero, theyre very ignorant to the funk styles culture because the backglide has been around since the 1920's. kidzero *might* have done it first on the ddr pad, but he is sure to have gotten it from someone else.

the point is, play like YOU. if you like the backglide--thats great, learn it. but learn it...becuase you wanna look like kidzero? thats just dumb. do it for yourself.

I started freestyle not long ago im not that great but here is what i know about. I used to break dance a little bit and its only the very basic's but they do help u out and i made up something dont know if it is allready a move or not? i wanna put it in a routene but i havent found a song that has the right steps for it yet. But u swing ur leg over the pull and let swing pass u so u can kind flip upside down and u hit the left with ur right hand and with ur other hand grab the pole so its like a hand stand but it should be a freeze arrow to do it so u have time to hold urself up.

USER: Good to see someone who can distinguish dance styles, you really know what you're talking about. =)

trupnoi: Ethan did Highs Off U doubles, and played to the crowd like crazy. It really got em pumped. =)

And the reason you're seeing so much of that these days is because freestyle has evolved, sorta. Popping and b-boying are, arguably, the easiest and most watchable modern dance styles one can bring to the DDR pad (when done well, of course, not when one just slides around to Let the Beat Hit Em). I'd love to see locking, but as it mostly requires arm moves, it's hard to work it into stupid arrow patterns with your feet. As for A-Team stuff, that stuff should stay on PIU machines, where it can be best utilized.

Captain, your post made little sense to me, but your move has probably already been done by folks since a few years ago.

Quick question about freestyling:
How much does your score matter? I know that the point is to look good, but lets say you did a great routine but missed a bunch of arrows and got a D. Would the judges give a flying fig about the D?

Heheh. Don't worry about the score, dude. Smart tournament organizers know that accuracy should never factor into a dance (!) routine. In fact, Fuzzy Hat and some of his old school FS friends consider a D to be the best freestyle score - it means you didn't try to dance using the stepchart the entire time. You don't need to hit every arrow, it's a given that you probably could if you tried. So if you don't PA it, you mess around to get a reaction, you take a risk, skip a few notes for something cool, judges actually like that.

If you're getting D's because you don't get enough of the arrows and one could tell that you were still TRYING to, then that's another matter, you could get docked for looking sloppy or unprepared. But purposefully not hitting them is, believe it or not, an "advanced" FS skill (see: Phrekwenci). Just keep the lifebar up every now and then, and don't pick something too dense in arrows. Innovate. =)

and Captain: Thanks, I'm surprised you liked StD the best...I may actually retry that someday just to cover up the falls and slop. E13.gif
