wow it's like a feeding frenzy in the earlier posts in this thread. i haven't played itg yet but i won't knock it until i try it. legal issues are not my concern because i have no part in itg's development so how does it affect me? it doesn't. i don't understand issues with itg using ddr cabinets. if i'm not mistaken, when i go to the arcade i see all kinds of games using other game cabinets. when i was younger and worked at an arcade we'd use whatever available cabinet we had that could house the kits. maybe that is an illegal practice but i was never told otherwise. as for UDLR as an interface issue, don't almost all fighting games use standard 8-direction movements? not to mention shooting games.

anyhow, the reason i'm posting is because i wanted to find out if there is an itg machine in the washington d.c. area so i can check it out and find out what all the talk in here is about. regardless if ddr is dead or not isn't a concern of mine, although if a successor will pick up where ddr left off i'm all for it. please let me know if there is an itg machine in my area.

Please post the pictures.. I want to play ITG but Grand Rapids,MI is a sucky place for arcades... to get another music game they will threaten to sell the ones we already like when there are like 3 or 4 non-profitable machines they could sell to get the games people want...

Actually, the 8otB machine isn't fully unlocked anymore. There was a glitch that allowed for hidden songs played through Chance to remain fully unlocked, which was recently fixed, thus killing all of our unlocks. However, they did recently release the code for Disconneted Hyper. happy.gif

You know, I knocked this game so bad when 8otB in Dunellen, NJ got it... seriously. And then I tried it. And now I'm hooked. It's a great game, even if the song selection could be a little... um, more? Yes. Hehe. laugh.gif

I think it's great, even if I suck at Marathon mode because I do not have SM and thus, am not familiar with any of the options it randomly throws out.

... this may be a little late, but better late then never... I finally got to play in the groove and must say it's a nice change from DDR.

From what I have heard the first verison has at least 70 songs, and when you think about it DDR really didn't have a ton of songs until 4th mix.

The only problem I have with ITG is that the machine it was set up on the arrows were about half the size of the normal DDR arrow, maybe this is suppose to be like this?

By default, ITG has the scrolling perspective set to Incoming. If you go to the Options screen and change it to Overhead, the perspective will be the same as DDR's.

wow this game looks pretty good for a ddr style game. some games like this could have been incredible if they were executed better. (TECHNO MOTION) the only game as of now that i think holds a candle to ddr is pump it up.

$2199.00
The price of an In the Groove upgrade kit for a DDR machine

How many songs does this have because Pump it Up Exceed upgrade kits cost half the price and it has 102 songs... if it's got less than DDR Extreme an upgrade ITG may be risky... especially if DDR Extreme is still making money at the arcade...

Edit : I found out - 60 songs... that kind of hurts... but the songs are 2 minutes + so I guess it's cool....

Edit : I would like to also add that they've made a terrible mistake by charging double for doubles... hardly anyone plays doubles on DDR here because it costs double... I think they should go the Andamiro way and do like Pump it Up - doubles costs 1 credit!

Just to clear up a few misconceptions:

EXCEED upgrade kits upgrade pump machines, and the availability of Pump machines depends on your area -- some areas have many, some areas have none. Unfortunately for me, I fall squarely into the latter category. In fact, the last time I got to see Pump It Up, I got to play once before they carted the machine away and stuck a MAX2 in its place. Not that I mind MAX2, but I've always wanted to spend some more time with Pump, it seems like an awfully fun game. Unfortunately, the point here is that Pump may cost less, but it is less likely to be an option due to lack of machines..

DDR, on the other hand, so rapidly grew in popularity that it's accessible in most areas that have dance games at all -- sometimes two Extremes are sitting right next to eachother, and there even might be a lonely DDR USA in the same arcade. Now, this isn't the case everywhere, but suffice it to say that there are a lot of extra DDR cabinets that frankly aren't making the money they used to make. Assuming a single Extreme is still bringing in good cash flow -- which may not be the case after 2 years -- there are usually extra cabinets with USA out there handy for an ITG upgrade kit. I'd like to point out that any standard (read: 1st - EX, not solo) DDR cabinet can accept an ITG upgrade kit, which brings life back into the cabinets that you may not want to stick Yet Another Extreme into.

Also, in regards to the songs -- the Over 60 Songs statement does not include unlocks or special songs, both of which exist aplenty. And with four difficulties on both Singles and Doubles for almost all of the songs, that's over 550 unique dance routines. I wouldn't say there's much lack of variety for an initial release. E1.gif

Just to let you know, In The Groove comes default on Doubles Premium -- but not Joint Premium -- which means if your arcade operator doesn't change things from the get go, Doubles play comes standard as a one-credit option. If you've run across a machine that has Doubles costing two credits, that is because it is a option that the operator can choose to disable.

You may label me biased, but ITG is an exciting prospect for any arcade operator who has 4-panel dance machines that just aren't pulling their weight anymore.

Yeah thats true however here it took 2 years of suggesting the purchase of DDR Extreme... we finally get it this year and now it's gone this year because the arcade closed for remodelling... and if the new owners are anything like the Dave and Busters owners or Craig's Cruisers the place will just have Pump it Up - believe or not arcades around here give an excuse for not having DDR - "It's not something we can buy easily in the USA... blah blah blah"

so in other words here =
10 min drive - Pump it Up PREX3
1 Hr Drive - DDR Extreme and broken 5th mix (both with bad pads)
1 Hr Drive - Pump it Up Premiere 2
40 min drive - DDR Extreme in perfect working order!
anything else is too far away... lol

None of those places would get ITG because DDR Extreme is relatively new around this area to most players...

ITG looks nice and has those song unlocks but we also have the DDR bias crew who won't play it because it's not DDR... Specifically the people who play the same songs over and over... - usually the largest portion of players

I would play it if I saw it in an arcade but we have trouble here getting the arcades to buy a $300 upgrade for Pump it Up PREX1 (even though the machine suposedly did really well when Kahuna Ville was open) now that these new owner control them maybe they'll get Pump it Up Premire 2 like I suggested to them.

In The Groove looks sweet. I heard some rumors that it's hooked up to high speed internet and when you purchase upgrades for it, they can either directly put them up for you or send you the disc. Plus, I believe they can fix things on your machine remotely which seems cool.

ITG seems freaking awesome.

It is awesome.

Also, even though there are only 70 songs, don't forget that they're ALL new songs. It's not like extreme, where you get some new songs, and then close to 200 older ones happy.gif;;; Now, Ilike Extreme a lot, but if you're already going to have one in the area, why would you turn down 70 new songs, and lots of new ideas in step patterns, nonstops, etc?

hey all 248 songs on DDR Extreme were new to me because I never played DDR until this year... before I would just play Pump it Up.

Additionally, the steps seem consistently quite good. It has less step patterns that are just random and boring than I've seen in DDR. DDR has quite a few songs with a lot of unused potential and long, boring 1/8th note runs... etc.

And though some people complain about it being too geared to high-level tech players... they focused on "freestylability" when making the easy steps. Plus they have an arcade training mode, to make it easier to get into the game.

I dunno about you guys, but it sounds like a great buy to me. I don't have the money to run an arcade, but any arcade that buys one near me will definately be getting a lot of my money. E1.gif

To anyone who has played it :

Do the holds register just like DDR holds or is it different?

In otherwords I'm asking if I can slide off the hold notes for a second like I can in DDR... if so drops won't even be neccessary for the stuff during a hold...

I think in theory, yes, but they may have tightened the timing to prevent that.
