I don´t think so, as DDR and whatever song she was playing had nothing to do with it

good thing she had people around her who helped her that fast... too bad she won´t play DDR in quite a while... assuming she will ever play again

for the one who said she probably suffered... well, I can tell you, fist hand, it´s not really suffering, but a damn hard pain... and there´s nothing better than coming back to life... even if she´ll be using a pacemarker (lucky me, I don´t need it riiight.gif )

and well... usually playing DDR is GOOD for your heart... but I highly doubt she´d be beneficiated from it because of her dissease, not that it´d harm her, though

Ah yes I am very glad to learn about this. I really hope that we get to the point where we're reading 50,000 news stories a minute about things that happened while playing DDR even if DDR is the least important part of the entire story. Next time I hope to read that someone aged while playing DDR. This would be very good to hear about.

Very informative indeed.

Completely uncalled for. Warned accordingly.

I only said I hope she died because she is going to go through life suffering with a deadly illness. Poor girl might as well have her face mauled off by a whale. E19.gif E19.gif

I know what you mean man, but next time write it differently.

I really do want to know what song she was playing, just because.... erm... just because it'd be a good piece of trivia.

You really have no sympathy at all for her. If you can't think of anything positive to say then keep it to yourself. I don't understand why you even bothered to try and justify your other post with this one because it's just as cold.

I feel so bad for her. I'm so glad she's ok though. I just hope she recovers alright. I also hope DDR doesn't get bad press now because it wasn't the machine's fault it happened.

well... she should stay away from pump...

then again.. the people of pump probably got drunk when they made the arrows, they never make sense and are always offbeat.

but it is a shame that it had to happen that way, if someone said "you can never play ddr again" I would either explode... or move on to IIDX or something.

Look, you shouldn't frick be playing DDR if you have heart problems, seriously.

She needs to lose weight and get in shape before she starts playing a game like that.

I can't believe some of you people.

It's embarassing to even be posting on this board with the lack of sympathy that some of you are showing...

This is very true It's not wise to make your heart work harder when your heart has problems. But I would also say that is also not a fair comment because we don't know what her problem is.

Losing weight before playing has nothing to do with it. E19.gif

I hope this won't change a thing for the DDR community, because really, it doesn't have a THING to do with DDR.

Tho i too, am curious what song she was playing...

*and while I do have sympathy for her, 60 posts on "I feel bad for her" is pointless.*

The article said she suffered from a myocardial hypertrophy. =P

I did some research and found that myocardial hypertrophy is associated with obesity... and even though the article said that is is genetic, it's not necessarily genetic. The area's around her heart and her arteries were probably so clogged up that her heart couldn't keep up with the activity she was doing.

Dur.

Yeah, if she didnt have a condition, DDR would be under so much attack by parents groups and the like... "Killer Video Game".

Im glad that that's not happening, as well as that the girl survived.

On a related side note, that's how I wanna go.

Thank God she survived the experience. While it is unfortunate that it happened at all, she was fortunate to have people around her who knew how to assist her.

I agree with you; however, based on what the article said, it seems that neither she nor her family knew she had that disease. It was only after she had that heart attack that they found out about it. Her mother has a mild form of it and she didn't even know.

While I agree with this as well, there are people who have lost weight and gotten in shape because of DDR. Take Tanya (SaeNoDa) and Gerard (SPF5.PMG) for example.

Wow, I didn't know you'd had a heart attack, P-Chan E11.gif . Just out of curiosity, did it happen before or after you became a DDR player?

Look, you can't lose weight just by playing video games. There's no way Sanoda could have lost like 200 lbs because of ddr only. There's other stuff you need to do too, like having a good diet, which it doesn't look like the girl in the picture has. How much weight do you think you can lose just by jumping around for a few minutes a day? Even if it did help, I can't imagine it being that big of a factor.

I beg to differ. I lost 40 lbs playing DDR and doing nothing else.

And it was for a lot more than a few min a day, it was more like half an hour to an hour a day doing 7 footers. It makes sense doesn't it?

Well, its good she's okay. I know several.... not exactly super-fit... folks who play DDR, and they have no probs. Makes the skinny dudes look like pansies E15.gif .

Hopefully she wasn't playing an E-Rotic song at the time, that would give the parental activist groups some real firepower laugh.gif .

I never said you could lose weight just by doing DDR and nothing else. I'm perfectly aware that a healthy diet is necessary in order be physically fit. My point was that DDR can help you achieve your fitness goals, if you combine it with a healthy lifestyle. I'm sorry if my original post wasn't more explicit about this.

Sometimes these overweight kids push themselves to far when they hear DDR weight loss success stories. DDR isn't to blame but I'm sure excessive strain helped accelerate the complication.

Yes, unfortunately people who are not musically inclined at all have to stick with DDR. It's very sad but it is a fact of life that many people can only understand extremely simple patterns and beats rather than steps that fit many different parts of the song.

I think you have mistaken not having rhythm with something not being enjoyable. These are kind of different if you want to know the truth.
