Is Megamix a hacked DDR Extreme CONSOLE version or something?
From what I can catch of it, that screen is telling you to insert a memory card. (or maybe remove, I just guessed at the verb. I DID see "memory card" and "slot," though.) |

Actually, none are missing (as my pics prove). They're locked. You can still get Trip Machine Survivor on your second song, Paranoia Survivor/Max as your 3rd, LoM as your Extra Stage, and DDR as your OMES. Some machines accept the unlocking sequences, some other won't let you access the menu. Depends on the version of the hack. _________________

I just went to play Megamix yesterday. IMO, the game is fine. It's just that the pads were terrible. Heh. |

Right, but I was pretty sure that Extreme didn't have the slots... |

It all depends if the machines have slots, the most common ones are the japaneese machines that have slots. _________________

Megamix is generally all I play, and besides a few graphical differences it is exactly the same as extreme (which the arcade had before someone ripped them off by getting them to "upgrade" to MegaMix) I got them unlock codes and the whole thing is unlocked, just like extreme. however, MegaMix remembers your organisation settings from the last play. If the last song was selected from alphabetical mode, the next players start on alphabetical mode. |

Oh, and to that I may add that, if you selected your last song in alphabetical mode, when the songlist shows up for 1st stage, the "cursor", if I may use that term, will be on "num", and a random song will be playing. But there's something that may or may not hint as to if the machine's unlockable. If the song playing is a locked song, chances are that this machine is unlockable.
(Ex: Starts on "NUM", and Across the Nightmare plays while it's not selectable unless the machine's been unlocked...)
I'll try to confirm that if I can convince the arcade managers to unlock the machine. I already got one Megamix unlocked in Montreal, let's hope they all got screwed over by the same guy (so they may all be unlocked)... _________________

They just replaced Extreme with megamix in the arcade at exton square mall in PA. I just played it.
But is there something different about the pads? In the 2 weeks it has been in the arcade the pads have broken 4 times. |

i just went to the tilt at exton today, but the guy told me the pads were broken while they were updrading it. Apparently they won't be fixed until tuesday. But aside from that, does ddr megamix have all the songs of extreme and more? Does anyone know of a songlist for it? |

I played on a Megamix machine yesterday. I thought it was odd when I saw the crappy MegaMix banner. The only differences from the actual Extreme machines I've played on were the infamous Dont Fall Off screen (Those look like walkers from Star Wars...odd), the bg animations fuzzed up at times, and the saved alphabetical sorting. The pad was fine and I had no trouble operating/playing it. (Except for accidentally selecting a challenge remix of the song I wanted which was on top of it, and wasting a dollar >.<)
So, yeah, it is a bootleg, but it's still got the Extreme songs we love to play. The bowling alley I played at had upgraded from a 5th mix machine. I feel sorry for all the arcade managers/goers that had their actual Extreme machines "upgraded" to Megamix. Although if there isn't an Extreme machine around, it'll do in a pinch. |

There's one in the arcade next to the Recording Studio as well. |

Well, not that I've seen one in person, but the main important differences are said to be:
-ONI-difficulty sets for some songs that aren't selectable in Extreme, such as LOVE <3 SHINE, DAM DARIRAM, etc.
-Added modifers that were oni-course only before. (like 0.25x and 0.5x speed, Anti-Boost and "FuwaFuwa"... those bouncing arrows from AM-3P's remix on the "Trick" course.)
-The sorting-retention (personally, I'd prefer BPM, but whatever you hang your hat on is fine).
Finally, the graphics "update" was supposed to be less green, not more blue. Or something like that. Maybe the H4x0rz just didn't like the greenyness.
I am kinda curious to try the new mod's, though. Also note, the L<3S Onis are just the opposite HEAVY's... Single spread out is the Double Oni, and Double overlapped is the Single Oni. |

These are from an entirely different DDR hacking project which uses the original Extreme disc. _________________

I got to play megamix for the first time yesterday in Six Flags America... I was especially pleased with the don't fall off screen ... the machine didn't bother me cause the pads were nice and I don't play extreme often so the game didn't seem any different to me |

They better have not put one of these at SixFlags Greatamerica, now if they replaced there crappy max 2 with it. Wait, both of them are. (I still love the DDREX, though). _________________
