Ive always wanted to try ddr for fun, but was to embarrassed, and to broke. We modded it yesterday, carpet taped it to a piece of plywood. We got the flattest piece possible, but my room is sort of muggy (I keep bout 20 fish tanks in the next room) its not a 'wet basement' but there is humidity & its quite humid up here in the north east anyways.
Well in the last 24 hours the board has begun to curve, and it bounces when i have to move around & jump. Luckily it doesnt move, but man its bad enough im out of shape but the board makes it harder to do jumps to hit 2 arrows at a time.
well as I figured it is an addicting game, I cant seem to get away from it even when im dog tired lol I vision this pad wearing out -soon- |
Have you tried getting a de-humidifier for the fish room and/or your room? That could help a bit. |

4 words: I hate RedOctane Ignitions.
Why?
Reasons:
1. They slide around about 6 or 7 inches on a song like Tsugaru.
2. They rip easily.
3. Too expensive.
4. They die out in a few months.
5. Ghost stepping.
6. Weak vinyl covering
Now reasons why BNS DX-Xtreme are better:
1. Slide 2 inches on 10 footers (eg. MaxX Unlimted, Max300, LoM etc; )
2. Don't rip at all
3. $50 cheaper
4. Never die out.
5. No ghost stepping
6. Strong plastic covering.
In other words, Ignition pads aren't really worth the money

a dehumidifier will heat the room(alot), although dry it out.. It isnt dripping wet in here either or anything, its quite comftorable which is why when I noticed the board curving I got confuzzled. But yeah, duhumid is not an option, least not in my bedroom, maybe in the fishroom...maybe
I went for the red octane 2.0 cause it seemed to be highly regarded on this forum that I read(actually, I wanted to get the 50$ red octane one, but they only had ignition 2.0 @ the store). I was going to get a metal pad first, but decided I should try the game out before paying 200-300$ |

Ghost stepping is when the pad randomly registers an arrow without you pressing it.
If don't want to read 70 pages.......... get the BNS DX-Xtreme at buynshop.com |

"R U SERIOS"?! Then you musta not been playing DDR everday =p My BNS Xtreme pad died on me within 1.5 months, and I've been playing Heavy songs like MaxES, ParanoiaS, etc. I've took care of it as if it was my baby [like I cleaned it per round].
But in my terms of "die out", my pad does not respond once in a while. I consider that as "dead".
But I am not saying that BNS Xtreme Pads are bad. They are actually good if you just started DDR'ing [Beginner, Light, or even Standard]. But when playing Heavy HEAVILY - it might break on you within months. DDR Pads usually last about 6 months for average DDR Heavy Person.
Personally, I would try to get "cheaper" Ignition pads and use Hard Inserts that is included in BNS pads as replacement.
[[EDIT]]
What do they call that covers your DDR Pad for 3rd Party pad? Like if I go a hardware store, what do they call it?

Mod guides call it either flooring covering or clear plastic covering. I'm having a hard time trying to find it in hardware stores and even on the online stores. I know plastic covering with spikes but I can't find those either. Chairmats for computer chairs are too hard and are too expensive. I know RedOctane($15) sells plastic covers that a very ideal, but barely just cover the whole pad. Although it does say it has some type of grip surface that makes it stay on the pad.
Ebay has tons of ignition pads that can serve as replacements. Just hope the new pad wasn't build carelessly that makes it die within the week. If you start killing ignition pads, you should start thinking about investing in a metal pad. |

ok... i just read about the last 5 pages of the thread and got a lot of diffrent sides to the same story, and a lot of mixed re-actions... i am someone who got into DDR @ my ex's house a few months back when she got these 2 cheap pads and one of the PS2 US versions of the game... my current GF and her friends are DDR "freaks" whenever they get near a machine, and i have embaressed my self on more than a few occasions...
I am look for (probably Xbox as my PS2 has been acting up lately) a set of pads, that would run me about $100 (im making 200 a week but still need to pay for car insurance and gas and such) not including the game. I found this page w/ a round-up of pads Here, but couldnt find the XBOX pads they were talking about anywhere (has anyone tried them??) But if i do HAVE to go for the PS2, which game and which pads would i be more sutted for??
I personally will be playing for excersing terms and using the work-out mode (need to lose weight over the summer and get in shape for my job - I caddy @ Newport Country Club, RI) for fun, enjoyment, and to have something other than a poll table in my basement for parties =D
p.s. thx in advance (if you can PM me it might be easier on the thread =P) |

"Usually" if you don't check the seller rating and history and fall for deals too good to be true. The pads are good but the foam is the soft type not like BNS or RO. The ebay seller sold pads with "hard" foam but seems to be unavailable at the moment. I'm not too sure about the difference between the 2.0 and 2.5 but I know neither of them have the "hard" foam. You can get the hard foam from levelsix.com for $10. See if you try to get 2.5 if there is one avaliable. |

i dont put on the bed bc if the sun hit my bed and it makes the bed hot and then makes the pad hot blah blah....
so far this pad last me 2 weeks already.
the same pad i bought the first time, it died in 3 days bc i fold it lay it around that wasnt straight.... etc...

Heretic,
I used workout mode, it keeps count of your weight and cals burned with nifty charts, but even the workout mode on heavy is terribly easy compared to game mode on light(I have DDR Max). Burning cals isnt an exact science, I imagine this game is a TON more accurate than most workout machines cause it takes into account your weight when calculating calories it seems, since you burn more calories at a higher weight doing the same exercise as someone 20lbs lighter than you. It also has a nifty timer
I wish DDRMax said cals burned & had a total time on in all modes, not just workout mode. I find myself imputing my weight into workout mode, doing afew of the songs getting bored & switching to game mode again & playing for an hour ~ I know that light step aerobics burns about 500 cal an hour give or take some due to weight & how fast you're going - jumps etc, so I consider some songs(not the slow ones) DDR light mode a near equivalant to light step aerobics.
Right now my legs are so sore. Im debating whether or not to DDR today, I know if I do play I will just be more sore tommorrow cause muscles need some time to recover from DOMS but I really want to play x.x |

I thought workout machines would be more accurate
Since it depends on how you play ^^ somepeople just step softly without wasting energy while some people get all jumpy =D But that's just you ^^
Grr I wanna play max and max2 again...borrowed my friend's ps2 and just gave it back. _________________

Workout machines are terribly inaccurate because they dont take into account your weight, they use an 'average' weight, which is more important in the calculation. Even on workout machines you can step lighter, or harder.. wave your arms around or not. So same variables as DDR I would think. |
